Chapter 9: Vile Mother

Maxwell held on tightly to Arabella’s trembling hand. “I trust you and I know what you can do so please trust me. I will never let you fall.”

“You have done enough already!” Mike sneered. “Don’t you think about my sister at all? Arabella, I had warned you. Do away with this man, he will drag you down.”

Arabella shook her head, trying to digest everything. She didn’t understand why Maxwell was so insistent on making her take on this task.

She sighed. “It’s fine. I will do it.”

“Hehe, let’s watch and see how you would disgrace our family,” Ashley sneered.

Maxwell glared at her with stormy eyes and said in a low, dangerous voice. “Don’t think I have forgotten about what you have done to my wife. We have scores to settle.”

Arabella held his arm and shook her head. “I don’t want more fights. Just let it go.”

“Fine. If that’s what you want. But, I would like to leave.”

“Where are you going?” She asked, searching his eyes.

Maxwell went silent for a moment, wondering what he would say. He couldn’t lie to her and he couldn’t tell her the truth. Not yet. He couldn’t endanger her.

“I can’t tell you but I will tell you soon.”

Arabella’s jaw tightened. Was he leaving her after putting her into this? She muttered okay and Maxwell stared at her with a smile before walking away.

“Where are you going?” Sienna called after him. “You have done your part in ruining my daughter’s life and you are leaving her to face the heat alone?”

“Mum, let him go,” Arabella said calmly. “He has something to take care of.”

“Hmph,” Sienna scoffed. “Don’t get too worked up over him okay? Nathan has promised to help you so do well to take that help. He has our family’s best interests at heart and this is the right time to take back what was supposed to be ours.”

She glared at Fred who was standing at a corner, speaking with a guest. “Fred had stolen a lot of your ideas and gave them to grandfather, now this is the time to show them what you are made of…”

Arabella’s face darkened as she remembered the time Fred had come into their home with threats of chasing them into the streets if Arabella didn’t give him the book she had written most of her business ideas.

Because she didn’t want her family to suffer, she gave them to him. Fred gave those ideas to George calling it his and that made George love his own branch of the family even more because those ideas made Zade Group grow into what it has become today.

“Alright. I’m doing this for the family but I won’t get married to Nathan Black no matter what you say.”

“That’s fine by me,” Sienna replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

FOREST HILLS.

“President, welcome back,” Elena said, her voice etched with respect as she bowed slightly.

Maxwell leaned back on his swivel, his presence filling the room. He studied Elena. She was the executive vice president of the Forest Hills Company, known to the world as the Iron Lady. He had saved her once from her husband who was a drunkard and had beaten her a lot.

Seeing her credientials, he thought she was the best choice to run his company in his stead and his judgement wasn’t wrong.

“The contact for the Zade family, is it ready?”

“Yes sir,” She replied, placing a file on a desk. “But why the Zade family if I may ask? They are a third tier family and from the look of things, partnering with them won’t bring us a lot of profits.”

“This isn’t for the Zades,” Maxwell responded, his voice calm and steady. “It’s for my wife. And do not doubt her abilities.”

Maxwell ignored the apologetic look and surprise on her face and continued. “Are there any pending partnerships with a man named Nathan Black?”

Elena straightened up before answering. “Yes indeed. We have contracts with Nathan Black and profits coming in from the partnership is very lucrative. You shouldn’t worry—“

“Cancel them and blacklist him.”
