The tunnel air grew colder with every step Mara took. The deeper they followed her, the more the shadows thickened, pressing in on the group like silent watchers. The overhead lamps flickered in a slow, dying rhythm that made the ground pulse with each fading glow. Even Morgan stopped joking. The tension in the air felt too heavy for words.

John stayed in front, eyes fixed, senses sharpened. The transmitter in his pocket pulsed again, stronger this time, beating like a heart that did not belong to him. Every pulse felt like a call, pulling him, guiding him, demanding he see what waited at the end of this path.

Rita leaned close enough for only him to hear. “This place feels wrong.”

Elias scanned the dark corners. “Something is interfering with the atmosphere. The readings are distorted. I do not trust what I am seeing.”

Morgan snorted lightly. “That is comforting.”

Celine gave him a sharp glare. “Please do not start.”

John raised a hand. “Quiet.”

They moved deeper until Mara finally s

The ceiling split apart like a cracked skull.Stone rained down. Dust burst into the air in violent clouds. The sanctum trembled as a massive dark shape forced its way through the jagged opening above.Rita grabbed John’s arm and pulled him back, her voice sharp. “Move!”The entire group scattered as a chunk of granite smashed into the floor where they had been standing. The noise rattled the chamber like thunder trapped underground. Then Harold stepped through the breach.Or the thing wearing Harold’s shape. His metal frame glowed with molten veins. His eyes burned like two cores of blue fire. The Overseer’s unnatural enhancements coiled around his limbs, tightening and shifting like living armour. He scanned the sanctum in silence.John felt his pulse spike. The air around Harold twisted with an energy that made his skin crawl.Morgan whispered, “He does not look human anymore.”Kael kept his voice steady. “He has not been human for a long time.”Harold lifted his head. His gaze lan

  • Chapter 109: Run From the Monster Wearing Your Father’s Name

The corridor swallowed them whole.Blue veins pulsed along the walls like a heartbeat, guiding them forward while shadows chased at their backs. The air trembled with every blow from the other side of the sealed passage. Each impact sent dust drifting down like ash.John ran at the front with Rita at his side, Kael close behind, followed by Morgan, Elias, Celine, and Mara. Their footsteps hammered through the narrow channel, each stride fueled by urgency and dread.A violent boom echoed behind them.Rita flinched. “He’s breaking through.”Kael responded without looking back. “He will. The Overseer is not designed to stop.”Morgan muttered a curse. “Great. A walking tank with daddy issues.”“Focus,” Elias said sharply.John glanced at Kael as they ran. “How long before he tears through that wall?”Kael’s expression tightened. “Minutes. Maybe less.”Rita spoke quickly. “Kael, you said Lucien built this escape path. Where does it lead?”“To the lower sanctum,” Kael said. “A silent sector

  • Chapter 108: The Voice That Should Not Exist

****The chamber froze.Every heartbeat stopped. Every breath hitched halfway. The blue crystal veins along the walls dimmed, as if even the room itself recoiled at the sound.Harold’s voice echoed again—deep, cold, mechanical, yet unmistakably human beneath the distortion.“You should not have come here.”Morgan instinctively stepped in front of Celine. Rita's hand was already on her blade. Mara slowly shifted her weight, ready to jump in any direction. Elias’ eyes narrowed, calculating, sharp.John didn’t move. His jaw locked. His chest tightened. That voice burrowed into memories he wished he had never inherited.Rita whispered, “John… I thought you said Harold didn’t know about this place.”“He shouldn’t,” John said quietly. “No one should.”Elias exhaled through his teeth. “Then someone tipped him off. Or the failsafe triggered a dormant alert the moment it activated.”Morgan cursed under his breath. “Meaning we basically rang a cosmic doorbell for the one guy we shouldn’t.”Cel

  • Chapter 107: The Failsafe Awakens

The white surge cracked through the shaft like a divine whip. Light flared, blinding, raw, ancient. For a split second, everything—dust, metal, air—hung suspended as if time had been ripped apart. Then the failsafe erupted fully.A shockwave shot downward, smashing into the Sentinels with brutal, merciless force. The machines convulsed violently, metal frames twisting as the energy tore straight into their cores. Their red optics flickered, spasmed—And shattered. The Sentinels dropped like dead weight, crashing against the shaft walls before plummeting into the dark pit below.Silence.Then a slow, low hum vibrated along the ladder.Celine whispered, “That… was not Council tech.”Mara stared upward, breathless. “Lucien embedded energy nodes into the architecture. Hidden triggers… for bloodline resonance.”Morgan frowned. “Meaning what exactly.”Elias answered, voice steady, “Meaning only someone of their line could activate it. Lucien designed it to react to his family. To his heir.

  • Chapter 106: Break the Tunnel

The maintenance tunnel shook with every impact from the other side of the hatch. Metal screeched violently, each blow landing harder than the last. The air vibrated. Dust rained from the ceiling. The Sentinels were not slowing down. They were accelerating.Elias ran ahead with the scanner raised, his eyes locked on the map flickering across its screen. “The tunnel leads to a service interchange. If we reach it before the Sentinels break through, we can cut into the northern passage.”Morgan grunted between breaths. “And if they break through first.”Rita shot him a dark look. “Then we are dead. So run faster.”Celine stumbled on a loose pipe but caught herself, clutching her tablet like it was the last thing keeping her sane. “This tunnel was not meant for people to run in. It is too narrow.”“Better narrow than dead,” Morgan replied.A deafening metallic crash ripped through the tunnel. They all turned for a split second. The hatch was bending inward. The Sentinels were punching thro

  • Chapter 105: The Vault’s Warning

The vault lights dimmed all at once, plunging the room into a deep white haze. The Core retracted slowly into the floor, sealing itself with a sound that vibrated through their bones. The chamber felt heavier once the projection vanished, as if the truth itself had weight and now pressed down on them.Mara stepped toward the closing Core. “Lucien did not leave anything to chance. If this vault has awakened, your enemies will sense the shift soon.”Elias turned sharply. “Explain.”“The moment the Heart Core activates, dormant systems in the Crest network awaken. Those systems send out ripples. Signals. Energy shifts. Your father’s loyalists built the network to react to Raymond's blood accessing forbidden information.”Morgan crossed his arms. “Meaning they know someone with Lucien’s blood is awake.”Mara nodded. “Yes. And they will come.”Rita tightened her blade holster. “Let them.”John did not speak yet. He stared at the last image of Lucien’s son burned into his mind. A boy with e
