In his private chamber, Emperor Zhu Feng began planning the invasion of the Shang Dynasty. Present were Hou Jun, Commander Cai Rui, and Prime Minister Qiu Liang.

Soon, a calm-faced man entered the room—Grand Commander Wang Yihan, freshly returned from suppressing a border rebellion. He was unaware of Emperor Zhu Feng's plans.

"Perfect timing, Grand Commander. I have something to discuss with you," said the Emperor.

Wang Yihan furrowed his brows. He noticed three others in the room, but not Zeng Kun, who usually attended key meetings. Instead, Hou Jun—a lesser official—was there.

"What’s the matter, Your Majesty?" he asked, puzzled.

"I plan to expand our empire. Our first target is the Shang Dynasty."

Thud!

Wang Yihan's heart skipped a beat. Did he hear that right?

"Forgive me, Your Majesty... Do we have any conflict with the Shang Dynasty that warrants an attack?"

"None at all. This is purely to expand our rule," the Emperor replied.

"But why the Shang Dynasty? We have long-standing ties with them—economic, diplomatic..."

The calmness in Wang Yihan’s expression faded, replaced by concern.

"You are my subordinate, Wang Yihan. Your duty is to obey orders, not question them!" Emperor Zhu Feng barked.

"As Your Majesty wishes. But during the late Emperor Suryawijaya’s reign, I was not just a soldier, but also his advisor. I helped him ensure peace and stability."

"Not anymore. Your duty now is to obey me and never presume to lecture your Emperor!"

Wang Yihan sighed deeply. His ideals no longer aligned with the new ruler. He made a painful decision.

"Your Majesty, I am weary. I wish to resign as Grand Commander. Let Commander Cai Rui take my place."

The Emperor was surprised, even disappointed. But ambition had clouded his judgment.

"What will you do now, Wang Yihan?"

"I wish to retreat from the world. To farm and live peacefully with my family in my old age. I apologize for no longer serving the Dynasty."

He removed his armor and placed it, along with the Grand Commander’s seal, on the table.

"I respect your decision. You may go."

"Thank you, Your Majesty." Wang Yihan bowed and left.

"You made the right call letting him go. He no longer serves Your Majesty from the heart," said Commander Cai Rui.

"I agree. But keep an eye on him. He is related to Emperor Li Wei. Have your spies follow him. Report any suspicious activity."

"Understood."

Cai Rui soon returned. "Our best spies are tailing him now, Your Majesty."

"Good. From this moment on, you are the Grand Commander, Cai Rui. Serve me and this Dynasty well!"

Cai Rui prostrated before the Emperor, overflowing with praise.

Before leaving the palace, Wang Yihan inquired about Advisor Zeng Kun’s fate. He was shocked to learn that Zeng Kun had been imprisoned.

Tears welled in his eyes. The Dynasty he had served so faithfully had cast him aside without remorse.

Yet he was grateful to be free from a path that no longer aligned with his conscience. Especially knowing that the Shang Dynasty—his cousin’s realm—was the target.

He galloped away from the capital, heading for his long-abandoned childhood home.

Throughout his years of service, Wang Yihan had devoted himself to Emperor Suryawijaya. He rarely saw his family. Now, he could enjoy his twilight years in peace.

One hundred meters behind, five spies followed him, careful not to lose track.

When he arrived at his modest home at the foot of a hill, Wang Yihan embraced his family warmly and told them he was now retired.

The next morning, Wang Yihan went into the forest to collect firewood.

Though no longer Grand Commander, his instincts remained sharp. He sensed someone following him.

Curious, he sprinted toward a large tree and leapt onto its branches. Three spies lost track of him and revealed themselves.

From the tree, Wang Yihan was shocked to discover they were palace spies.

"Where is he? That old man disappeared so quickly!" one of the spies muttered in confusion.

"I'm right here!" replied Dharmaseta, then leapt down and landed lightly in front of the three palace spies.
