"What the hell is going on here?"

Upon seeing what was in front of him Damian's voice cut through the silence

Five years ago, before he left, this place was clean, the kind that made anyone hold their breath when they passed by. The grave stood clean and proud, not a single blade of grass dared grow where it shouldn't, and fresh flowers bloomed so bright they pulled bees from miles away.

But what his eyes fell on now made his blood turn cold.

The place looked abandoned, forgotten like yesterday's trash. Worse than that, it had become a dumping ground where people threw their rubbish without a second thought. Mountains of dirt and garbage buried almost everything, and if Damian didn't know the exact spot where they laid his mother to rest, he would have walked right past it without knowing she was even there.

At that moment his hands balled into fists so tight his knuckles turned white. His jaw trembled, not from weakness but from the kind of rage that made grown men take three steps back. The veins in his neck stood out like ropes pulled taut, and when he spoke again, each word dripped with deadly intent.

"So everything just abandoned my mother's grave like this. The military threw away everything that had to do with me like I never existed. Even after I became the god of war, even after I bled for this country and gave them victory after victory, they still couldn't take what belongs to me with the respect it deserves. What the hell is this?"

He turned slowly, his eyes scanning the wasteland around him, looking for something, anything that would make sense of this madness. His breathing grew heavier, and the question that came next tasted bitter on his tongue.

"Could it be that my wife Mabel and her family didn't do a single thing to make sure this place was taken care of after it got abandoned? After they knew how much this place meant to me?"

"Mabel cannot do this to me."

Damian's voice shook with anger as the words tore out of his throat. His chest heaved like a man drowning on dry land, and his eyes burned red at the edges.

"What the hell is happening? Even if they abandoned it, what about my sister Rebecca? Rebecca knew how important this place was to me. She wouldn't have just left it like this, so abandoned that it turned into a rubbish dump. The dirt has almost swallowed everything whole and this place smells like death itself. What the hell happened in the last five years? What the hell happened that made them abandon this place like it meant nothing?"

He stood there, rooted to the spot, his gaze fixed on the tiny portion of ground still visible beneath all the filth and garbage, the only sign that his mother's grave still existed under all that shame.

Six years ago when the war broke out, Damian got selected as a priority recruit to join the military and fight to defend the country. Nobody escaped the draft except for certain families, families like his wife's people, the Nathaniel family, who found ways to maneuver the system alongside other prominent families. They sent their son-in-laws and distant relatives into the war instead of their own blood. Back then, Damian thought maybe it was love that made them allow him to marry their daughter Mabel. He actually believed they saw something worthy in him.

But the moment they got married, that very night, before he could even hold his bride properly, they sent him off to join the military. Though he had to admit, Mabel loved him then, or at least she showed it during the week leading up to their wedding.

The way she looked at him, cared for him, spoke to him with such tenderness, even loved his sister Rebecca like her own blood. She never once said they came from too poor a background for her to associate with. She mixed with them freely, even slept in the small, worn-down room they called home back then without a single complaint crossing her lips. She never looked down on him, not even once. And when he was leaving, she promised him with tears in her eyes that she would take care of his sister. She promised him everything, told him not to worry because she would be waiting for him when he returned.

But then how did this place, one of the most important things in his world, end up looking like a forgotten wasteland?

"You people owe me an explanation for this," Damian said through gritted teeth.

He was about to take a step away from the grave when the roar of heavy machinery filled the air. An excavator rumbled to a stop right in front of him, its yellow body blocking his path like a metal giant. Seven men jumped down from the machine, their work clothes covered in dust and sweat.

One of them, a stocky man with a hard hat tilted to one side, shouted at Damian with the kind of voice that could wake the dead.

"Hey you! Get out of the way! Can't you see we're here to work on this place? What the hell are you still doing here? We stopped people from dumping rubbish in this area a week ago, so did you come here to throw your own rubbish? Get out of here right now! We want to clear this disgusting grave out of this place quickly because the buyer of this land is coming anytime soon, so we n

eed to prepare it."

The older man nodded enthusiastically, his laughter subsiding into a cruel smirk."Things like this, if she had just actually allowed us to have our way with her from the beginning, none of this would have happened. Huh? None of this pain, none of this blood. But she pushed us to this point. She forced us to inflict this punishment with her stubborn refusal and her ridiculous resistance."He gestured at Rebecca's motionless form with his whip, as casually as if he were pointing out furniture."And this? This is just the beginning. We were just waiting for her to regain a little bit of consciousness, a little bit of strength, so we could continue. Because what's the fun in beating someone who can't even feel it anymore?"The younger man's eyes gleamed with sadistic anticipation."And this time around, you are going to stand there and watch. That is the most interesting part, the part that makes this whole situation so delicious. You're going to stand there, big bro, and watch everythin

At that moment in time, upon hearing the three words that had just left Damian's mouth, delivered in that low, deadly whisper that promised violence beyond imagination, the atmosphere in the room shifted completely. The two men with whips finally turned around to see who had dared to interrupt their entertainment. But as their eyes adjusted to the figure standing in the doorway, they realized they weren't alone in the VIP room. This wasn't just some private party between two sadistic bastards and their victim. There were six men total in that space, Damian now realized as his eyes swept across the scene with cold calculation. Six of them. The two with whips, and four others seated on the plush leather couches that lined the walls, drinks in their hands, watching the torture like it was a theater performance put on for their amusement. Some had loosened their ties and shed their suit jackets. Others still looked pristine, as if they'd just come from a business meeting and decided to st

His expression hardened into something that made the young woman take an involuntary step backward."You need to start leaving now," Damian said quietly, his voice carrying a weight that made it sound less like a suggestion and more like a prophecy. "Get out of this area. Go to the back, go outside, go anywhere that's not here. Because all hell is going to break loose very soon, and I don't want you caught in the middle of it."Without waiting for her response, without giving her a chance to argue or plead with him further, Damian turned and walked with deliberate purpose toward the VIP section. The hallway leading to the private rooms was dimmer than the main bar area, lit only by small wall sconces that cast long shadows across the worn carpet. The walls were painted a deep red that looked almost black in the low light, and the doors lining either side were heavy wood with brass numbers bolted to them.VIP Room 1. VIP Room 3. VIP Room 5.Damian's eyes scanned each number as he passe

At that moment, upon hearing the words that had just left the lady's mouth, Damian was taken aback, his entire body going rigid as if someone had just slapped him across the face."The little witch?" he repeated slowly, the words tasting foul on his tongue. His brow furrowed in confusion and growing dread. "What are you talking about? The little witch?"He shook his head, trying to push past the anger and fear clouding his thoughts."I don't actually know anyone by that name. Her name is Rebecca. Rebecca Cross. That's who I'm looking for."Immediately the young woman let out a short, bitter laugh that held no humor whatsoever, just the weary cynicism of someone who'd seen too much ugliness in her short life."Yes, I know you don't know her as the little witch. Nobody comes in here asking for the little witch by that name." She shifted the tray of glasses to her other hip, her expression a mixture of pity and something darker. "We call her that just because of the way she behaves. Yeah

Meanwhile, the taxi carrying Damian wove through traffic, the driver sensing his passenger's urgency and taking shortcuts wherever possible. Damian sat in the back seat, his hands clenched into fists on his thighs, his jaw locked so tight it ached. Every second felt like an eternity. Every red light felt like a personal insult from the universe. His mind kept circling back to Penelope's words, the casual cruelty in her voice when she'd talked about breaking Rebecca, about crushing her down until she became a shadow of herself. What did that mean? What had they done to his little sister while he was gone?Rebecca had only been twenty years old when he left for the war. She'd been bright, full of life, with dreams of becoming a teacher. She loved books and children, spent her free time volunteering at the local school even though they barely had enough money to feed themselves. She'd been so excited when Damian married into the Nathaniel family, believing it meant a better life for both

  • Chapter 6

Damian stood over Penelope, who had collapsed back onto the floor during her rant, his shadow falling across her like a dark omen. His voice came out flat, emotionless, which somehow made it even more terrifying than if he'd been shouting."If you have a death wish, just let me see you in front of that land again. Just show your face there one more time, and you are going to die. I'm not making a threat. I'm making a promise."He crouched down slightly, bringing his face closer to hers so she could see the absolute certainty in his eyes, the complete lack of hesitation or doubt."But like I said before, this is just the beginning of what I'm going to do to you and the entire Nathaniel family. This is nothing compared to what's coming. So pass my message to them. Tell them that I'm back. Tell them that I'm coming for every single one of them. Tell them to prepare themselves, because the storm that's about to hit them won't leave anything standing."He straightened up and turned to leav
