THE ONLY HEIR
THE ONLY HEIR
Author: Precious Onyema
The benefits of being a Billionaire.

My name is Darwin Andersons and I'm twenty three, I'm the only son of the Andersons family and the only heir to the family's riches.

Since the time I was born all I've ever experienced was wealth and abundance, nothing less than that, and the advice I give to my close friends is this; nothing is better than having money and spending it, it can be on anything, women, cars…anything, but spend it.

I enter into my office and I see Mark waiting for me, he was smiling.

“Good morning." He said.

“Good morning, why are you smiling at me like that, Mark?."

“Guess…"

“You know I'm not good at guessing."

“Okay, we just employed Lisa George."

“Who's that?."

“You got to be fucking with me right now man."

“I'm serious, I don't know who Lisa is."

“She's like the hotest girl you'll ever see in your life, she looks like she's a low key stripper of some sorts but she's actually not, like she's professional, in an unprofessional way….“

" That's enough, now, can I see her?.“

" Sure, I could ring her desk and tell her to come right up.“

" Do it.“

I took off my jacket and dropped it on my chair.

" Hey, Mark, can you ask Tracey to get me coffee.“

" Tracey didn't come to work today.“

" When is she coming?.“

" Tomorrow…., Here she is, Hi Lisa meet the boss.“

I turned to Lisa, dark hair, burning maroon eyes, red lips…

“Good morning Mr Darwin." She said swiftly In a voice that only belonged to seducers.

I liked her already.

“Can you do a three-sixty for me Lisa?." I asked her.

“What?."

“Turn around, I want to see how you look like, all-round."

“Uhmm, sure."

“Do it in a way that I can imagine you're naked, add a vibe to it please."

And she did it.

That was the benefits of being a good looking boss, that, right there, was the benefits of being wealthy, you could have anything you wanted at your own command.

Love was not my thing, I liked to live life and enjoy the thrill of it, the feel of freedom was blissful and I wouldn't sacrifice it all for a woman.

Upon growing up, I had met a lot of girls, most of them were pushed my way because they wanted to gain from my family riches and the rest of them were on me because I was good looking.

It was Saturday morning, I was driving to my parents house, it would only take a few minutes before I got there, it was the house at the top of the hills, not the house that I grew up as a kid, the house I grew up in was more grand, somewhere in the beaches of Florida.

I walked into the house, it was quiet and still, my foot steps echoed in a very distant but familiar way.

“Mum, Dad?."

I walked towards their room, and I found their door slight opened, I found myself peeking in through the open hole, I felt like a very stupid child doing it but I couldn't stop, not yet.

They were having an argument…it was unlike them to argue with themselves.

Only if I could hear what they were saying..

Nothing, I could hear nothing but mumbles.

“Mum, Dad, Good morning." I said finally making my presence known.

“Darwin, baby, how are you doing son?." My mum had said, coming towards me with her hands opened wide, a wide smile spread across her face.

“ I'm good, Dad?.“

" How are you doing son.“

" I've never been better.“

I was curious about what they were arguing about, I would have asked them but I preferred they keep it to themselves, if it was something I should know about, they would tell it to me.

“So, Darwin, tell me, when are you going to bring home a girl?." My mum asked while we were watching TV.

" I thought I told you to stop saying this.“

" What?, Nobody is getting any younger.“

“As you always say."

" I mean it, son.“

“Mum, I'm twenty three, I still have time."

" At least, go on dates, Mark tells me that you don't make any effort to take it far with any woman you see, he says it's just a one night fling you have going on.“

" Mark told you that?.“

" He's just trying to help you, we're just trying to help you.“

" I don't need help, mum, can't you see?.“

And then she went quiet, she didn't say a word after that. I wasn't comfortable with the silence, it was as if, they were trying to hide something so much that they were scared that if they uttered a word, the truth would slip out with the words.

Naturally, I was very smart, it wouldn't be hard to piece the puzzle.

“I'm leaving."

“Why, stay some more."

“Thanks, but, I have somethings to do at home."

“I can drive you, if you want."

“I came with my car dad."

“I know that son, but it's been a while since I spoke with you, it's been a long time since we talked, I can send your car later."

“He's not a child anymore, he knows how to drive himself, don't you, son?."

“No worries mum, Dad's right, we could have a little chat while we're on the road." Finally, there was a chance to know what they were hiding from me.

“Are you sure?" My mum asked.

“Mum, why are you acting so worked up?."

“Nothing…nothing, sure it's just a drive with a father and his son."

The drive…I had expected that we talk about personal matters but all he asked me about was business. In a short while, we would be at my house, I search for a way to divert the topic.

“Hey, Dad, how are you and mum doing?." Was my first attempt.

“Uhmm, what do you mean?."

“I mean, how is everything between you two."

The look on his face almost gave him out.
