Chapter 4: A Glimpse of Power
I stepped outside Northvale University’s grand entrance, and I looked around to see a glimpse of a new world. Everything had changed in a matter of hours. I wasn't the broke, poverty-stricken boy I was anymore. I was something else now and I don't even know the title I could give to myself. Everything was happening so fast. The money. The assets. The power. And yet, no one knew. Not Nathan. Not Sophia. Not the students who had mocked me for years. But they will. My phone buzzed again. Unknown Number: "The car is ready. Location: West Gate." I inhaled sharply, my fingers tightening around the device. I had never been picked up from school before. While the other students showed off their chauffeurs and luxury cars, I had always walked to the nearest bus stop, trying to manage every dollar. But today? Today, I would leave like a king. The West Gate was the least crowded part of the school, reserved for VIP drop-offs and pick-ups. A sleek, black Rolls-Royce Phantom idled at the curb. The kind of car that cost more than most people made in a lifetime was parked right in front of me. For a moment, I hesitated. This felt like a dream. Any second now, I’d wake up back in my tiny apartment, working my ass off in my next shift at the café. But then the driver stepped out—a tall man in a sleek black suit, his posture perfect. "Mr. Hayes." His voice was smooth and professional. He opened the door, gesturing inside. "Your estate manager is waiting." I swallowed hard. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. I was not used to someone getting things done for me. The special treatment, I was not used to. No turning back now. I slid into the car, my fingers brushing against the plush leather seats. The door shut with a soft click, sealing me inside a world of luxury I was now ready to explore. And if this was all a dream, I wish I never woke up. ***************************************************************************** The ride through the city felt exciting. The drive was smooth as I looked at the tall skylines and towers as they blurred past us as I drove. I exhaled slowly, staring at my reflection in the tinted window. Yesterday, I was nothing. Today, I was someone. But this was only the beginning. I turned to the driver. “Where are we going?” "Your estate, sir. Your financial advisor is waiting to go over the details of your inheritance." Estate. Not an apartment. Not a house. An estate. I gripped my knees, my breath unsteady. This was bigger than I had imagined. I had expected money. Maybe a decent house, a few investments. But an estate? A financial advisor? Who the hell was I? ***************************************************************************** Thirty minutes later, the car slowed, pulling through the big iron gates. Beyond them, a mansion loomed—a sprawling estate, the kind I had only ever seen in magazines and of course, movies. What was happening to me felt like it. A staged drama, a movie. Perfectly dressed gardens stretched across the property, fountains glistening under the fading sunlight. The driveway alone was longer than my entire apartment building. The car stopped in front of the grand entrance. A man in his forties, dressed in an expensive gray suit, waited at the entrance leading into the main mansion. The driver stepped out and opened my door. "Mr. Hayes," the man said as I stepped onto the stone pavement. "Welcome home." I stared at him. Home. The word felt foreign. Unbelievable. He extended a hand. "I'm Leonard Whitmore, your financial advisor. I’ll be handling your assets and ensuring a smooth transition into your new life." I shook his hand, my mind still struggling to catch up. "Shall we go inside?" I nodded numbly, following him through the massive double doors. [ INTO THE HAYES MANSION] The building was even more breathtaking. High ceilings, chandeliers, polished marble floors. Every inch of the place screamed wealth. I barely heard Leonard as he led me through the rooms. A grand staircase, a private library, a home theater, an indoor pool. This wasn’t just a house. It was a statement. Finally, we reached a private study. A long mahogany desk sat in the center, stacks of documents neatly arranged. "Before we go over the finer details," Leonard said, motioning for me to sit, "I assume you have questions." A thousand questions swirled in my mind. But only one left my lips. "Who left me all this?"Leonard folded his hands. "Your father." My stomach clenched. "That’s not possible. My father—" "—was never dead," Leonard finished, watching me carefully. The room hung in silence. I gripped the armrests of the chair as I looked at the man in silence, not sure of what I was supposed to say to him. For years, my mother had told me he was gone. That he had died before I was born. But if Leonard was telling the truth…I forced out the words. "Where is he?" Leonard hesitated. "That… I don’t know." I narrowed my eyes. "You don’t know? He leaves me all this, and no one knows where he is?" Leonard exhaled, flipping through a file. "Your father, Alexander Hayes, vanished nearly two decades ago. His assets were locked away under strict conditions. But the moment you turned twenty-one, everything was transferred to you." I shook my head, my thoughts spiraling. This didn’t make sense. Why hide his wealth? Why leave me and my mother struggling? And more importantly—Why disappear? Leonard pushed a file toward me. "Everything you need to know is here. Bank accounts, properties, company shares." His expression softened. "I understand this is overwhelming, Mr. Hayes. But rest assured, you have complete control now." I stared at the papers, my chest tightening. Complete control. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t at the mercy of the world. I had power. But power without answers meant nothing. I clenched my fists. If my father was still out there…I was going to find him. Later that night, I stood on the estate’s balcony, overlooking the vast gardens. The cool night air brushed against my skin, but my mind burned with a single thought. Revenge.Nathan. Sophia. The entire academy. They had mocked me. Humiliated me. Treated me like I was beneath them. But now? Now, I could crush them. A slow smirk curled my lips. They had no idea what was coming. And when the truth hit them—It would be too late.

Chapter 233Later that night, when the celebrations had calmed, I stood on the balcony of the presidential residence, Zee leaning against my chest. The city sparkled below us, alive with joy and hope.“Do you think she’s watching?” Zee asked softly.I kissed the top of her head. “I know she is. And she’s smiling, knowing her sister didn’t just find love… but found a reason to keep fighting.”Zee closed her eyes, and for the first time since Tessa’s death, her lips curved in peace.I held her tighter, gazing out at the horizon. The battles were over. The wars behind me.Now, with her at my side and an entire nation looking to me, I wasn’t just Adrian the warrior. The dawn crept slowly over the horizon, painting the skies in hues of gold and soft crimson. I remained on the balcony, my arms wrapped protectively around Zee as the warmth of the first morning light touched her face. She stirred slightly, blinking her sleepy eyes open, and smiled at me.“Good morning, Mr. President,” she tea

Chapter 232“ We need to get you out of here,” Park said immediately after I was done with my speech. My gaze darted around. I could have sworn that I saw her. Sophia, walking towards my guard. Zee looked at me, and I could see the joy in her eyes. The happiness of finally knowing that she belonged to me and that I am here. “ I love you.” She whispered.I smiled around the eyes, “I know.” I grabbed her by the waist and planted a kiss on her lips, making the crowd go wide. “ Adrian for the president!” They all kept chanting my name as I walked down the podium. The night had already burned itself into history. Fireworks lit the sky, the chants of my name echoed through the square, and Zee clung to my arm with trembling joy. But just as I allowed myself to breathe, I noticed the shadow moving through the crowd. The figure stepped forward, pushing past the chaos like a ghost. My eyes sharpened. I knew that face.“Tessa…” Zee’s voice broke beside me, her fingers tightening on mine.

Chapter 231The cathedral was still burning with echoes of the fight. I stared at Edwin’s lifeless body one last time, then turned away. His shadow had haunted my family for years, but now it was gone. Dead. Forever.Park clapped a hand on my shoulder, his expression weary yet proud. “You ended it, Adrian. It’s finally over.”I looked at him, but my mind was elsewhere. Ending Edwin was one thing—but life wasn’t about ending battles, it was about building something worth protecting. My gaze drifted to the thought of her. Zee. Her laughter. Her fire. The one who had stood beside me even when I was buried in the darkness of my past.I couldn’t wait any longer. The next morning, I was pacing my room when Park walked in.“You haven’t slept a wink, have you?” he asked, grabbing an apple from the table and biting into it.“Sleep can wait,” I muttered. My chest felt heavy with the decision. “I need to do this. No more hiding, no more secrecy. I’m done letting fear decide for me.”Park narrowe

Chapter 230I slammed my fist against the arm of the couch, the wood cracking under the force. My anger was boiling over, and Park knew better than to interrupt. He just sat there, his eyes steady on me, waiting for the storm inside me to settle.“Protecting her means putting a target on her back,” I growled. “And Edwin doesn’t miss his targets. He’ll come for her the same way he came for Mother.”Park leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “And you’ll come for him. Isn’t that the point, Adrian? You’ve been dancing around this for too long. Either you kill Edwin, or he kills everything you care about. There’s no middle ground.”His words struck me like a blade. He was right. There was no more running, no more waiting for him to make the first move. Edwin had already gone too far. Before I could respond, my phone vibrated violently on the table. The name flashing across the screen made my blood run cold.Edwin.I picked it up slowly, pressing the speaker button. His voice was

Chapter 229At first, we both stood still. Parked looked at me. “Did you hear that?” He asked slowly, walking towards the table that was far from us. “I did, but it can't be,” I replied, even though I wished I was sure I heard correctly. The sound was faint at first, then it came again, the second time, almost like the room itself groaned under the weight of our grief. Park and I turned at the same time, our eyes locking onto the table.Alisha.Her lips parted ever so slightly. A gentle breath escaped, fragile and fleeting, but it was there. My heart lurched inside my chest.“No…” I whispered, stumbling toward her. “No, that’s not possible. She was gone. I—I felt it—”“Did you do something, Adrian?” Park asked with his eyebrows arched. It was not as if it could not be done, but I had never tried bringing anyone back. Did my blood do this?“I only gave her my blood.” Park’s bloodshot eyes widened as he leaned in closer. “She’s breathing, Adrian. She’s… she’s alive.”I dropped to

Chapter 228 When the light came back on, I stared at the empty eyes in front of me. Her blood pooled straight to my feet. I felt my leg weakening. My lips quivered like I had been locked in an ice cave for a long time. The room was silent. Edwin was gone, and so were his men. I rushed to her side and called her name silently. “ Alisha. Can you hear me?” Her eyes were open, staring at me. I felt guilty crawling up my skin. My chest felt like it was going to explode from the pain I was feeling. I immediately cut my skin open and poured my blood right into her mouth. “ Please, mother. Wake up!” I shouted as my voice echoed through the empty room. Her skin was now pale. I felt the world around me collapsing. Everything I have tried to live for, I have built. It was all slowly crumbling around me. I gently carried her up and laid her on the table in front of me. My wound slowly healed up as I stared at her face, whispering a silent prayer. I have never believed in God. Where was
