Chen POV
"If the young master needs anything, just call for me." Marcus stood outside my room, speaking through the closed door. His voice sounded nervous, like he expected me to yell at him or throw something. I opened the door and saw him flinch. The old Wei must have been truly terrible to him. "Uncle Marcus, would you walk through the city with me? I feel restless staying inside all day. Maybe seeing the city will clear my mind." He stared at me like I'd grown a second head. "Y-yes, young master," he stammered. I could tell he didn't want to go. The original Wei's memories explained why—every time the old Wei went into the city, he caused trouble. Fights broke out. People got hurt. The city residents had learned to hate the sight of him. But I wasn't the old Wei anymore. I needed to see the city with my own eyes and understand the situation better. After preparing, I left my room. Marcus followed behind me, looking like a man walking toward his doom. We passed through the main gate of the Chen compound and entered the city streets. Azure Falls City was beautiful. Buildings with curved roofs lined clean streets. Market stalls sold food and goods. Mountains rose in the distance, their peaks hidden in clouds. But as I walked, I noticed something strange. ______________ People saw me and immediately turned away. Mothers grabbed their children and pulled them inside. Shop owners suddenly became very busy with tasks that required them to face away from the street. Groups of people chose to walk in the opposite direction rather than pass by me. "Uncle Marcus, why do they treat me like this? Have I done something to them?" Marcus's face changed completely. He looked shocked by my question, then confused, then almost angry. "I... I don't know, young master. Maybe they're just shy around someone of your status. They know they're not equal to you." I didn't believe him. He was hiding something. But I didn't push. Some truths reveal themselves in time. We walked deeper into the city, entering a district with wider streets and larger buildings. This was where wealthier families lived. Suddenly, a group of young men blocked our path. There were about ten of them, all dressed in expensive robes. Leading them was a tall youth around my age, with a handsome face and proud bearing. I recognized him from the original Wei's memories. Zhao Kun—the young master of the Zhao family. "Well, well. I thought the Chen family's worthless young master wouldn't dare leave his house. But here you are, defying my orders. Haven't I told you, Chen Wei, not to enter this district? This is my territory. No one passes without bringing me a valuable gift." I frowned. In Chen Wei's scattered memories, I couldn't find any incident with Zhao Kun about this. But when I glanced at Marcus, he looked terrified. "Young master, we should leave," Marcus whispered urgently. "Don't fight with the Zhao family young master. He's reached a higher cultivation level than both of us." Unlike Marcus's fear, I felt nothing. I examined Zhao Kun and his friends carefully. None of them were stronger than me—not in terms of real skill, anyway. They might have higher cultivation levels, but that didn't mean everything. "Let's keep walking, Uncle Marcus," I said calmly, completely ignoring Zhao Kun. Marcus looked like he might faint from fear. But something in my confidence seemed to give him courage. He straightened his back and followed me as I walked forward. "You arrogant fool!" Zhao Kun shouted. "How dare you ignore me! I'll teach you respect, Chen Wei!" He moved to strike me from behind. His palm aimed for the back of my head—a blow that could kill or seriously injure. But I'd already sensed his movement. Using a technique from my ancient knowledge, I seemed to vanish from where I stood and reappeared behind him. I kicked him lightly—barely using any strength. Zhao Kun stumbled forward several steps, completely shocked. His friends stared with open mouths. Marcus looked like he might cry from relief or fear, I couldn't tell which. "You... you tricked me!" Zhao Kun's face turned red with anger. "I won't hold back anymore!" He released about half his cultivation power. Energy radiated from his body in waves. I could sense he'd reached the first level of Heavenly Spirit realm—impressive for his age. Most young people in this city were still in Earth realm. Zhao Kun clearly thought he was far above me. He probably believed I was still in mid-level Earth realm, which would put him seven levels higher. With that advantage, he expected to crush me easily. He attacked again, this time with full intent to seriously hurt me. But I simply raised one hand and created a shield of light in front of me. It was a basic technique from my previous knowledge, modified to work with my current weak body. When Zhao Kun's attack hit the shield, it disappeared like water dropping into an ocean. Nothing. His powerful strike accomplished nothing. He stood frozen, unable to believe what he'd seen. His friends looked just as shocked. Even Marcus seemed confused—he'd never seen me use a technique like this. "What... what did you just do?" Zhao Kun whispered. I said nothing. I just watched him, waiting to see what he'd do next. Zhao Kun's shock turned to rage. He'd been humiliated in front of his friends and any witnesses. But instead of accepting defeat, he made a terrible choice. "If you won't fall to my normal techniques," he growled, "then I'll use the forbidden one!" "No!" Marcus gasped beside me. A greenish circle appeared in the air above Zhao Kun's head. It grew larger, spinning slowly. Then something emerged from it—a massive black bird, at least thirty feet long. Its feathers seemed to absorb light. Its eyes glowed red. The soul-eating bird from the underworld. I recognized it from my merged knowledge. This creature didn't just kill—it destroyed souls completely. Anyone killed by it couldn't reincarnate. They simply ceased to exist in any form. Everyone in the area scattered, running for safety. The bird's presence alone was enough to terrify them. This technique was forbidden in the Zhao family except in life-or-death situations. Zhao Kun had just broken one of his family's most important rules. But before the bird could attack, two figures suddenly appeared between us. One was my grandfather, Chen Bolin. The other was an old man I didn't recognize—probably Zhao Kun's grandfather and the Zhao family leader. "You foolish child!" the Zhao leader shouted at his grandson. "Why would you use that technique in a simple fight? Put it away immediately, or I'll end you myself!" Both grandfathers had apparently been walking through the city together when they sensed the forbidden technique being used. They'd rushed here instantly. Zhao Kun's face went pale. He quickly formed seals with his hands, writing symbols in the air around the portal. The black bird flew back into the greenish circle, which then shrank and disappeared. "Come here," his grandfather commanded. Zhao Kun approached and knelt before the old man, head bowed. I walked to my grandfather and showed respect as well. "Let's go home," grandfather said to me.Latest Chapter
Chapter 25
"Someone told him. Someone who knows your family well enough to understand the significance of you being here." Master Shen turned to face me again. "Wei, I believe there's still a traitor in your family. Someone who's been reporting to the Four Pillars for years. And that person has told Magnus to watch you carefully." I'd suspected the same thing, but hearing it confirmed made my stomach tighten. One of my own relatives, someone I ate meals with and called family, was betraying us to our enemies. "Do you know who it is?" "No. Your father never figured it out either, though he suspected several people. The traitor is very careful, very patient. They've been undermining your family for over a decade without being caught." The morning had grown brighter now. Other students would be arriving soon for regular training. Master Shen and I stood up from the bench. "Wei, I'm telling you all this because I made a promise to your father, and because I believe you're strong enough to hand
Chapter 24: The Hidden Teacher
The morning sun barely touched the academy grounds when I woke. My body ached from yesterday's training, but my mind was already racing. Something about Master Shen bothered me—not in a bad way, but in a way that made me curious. The way he looked at me sometimes, like he was remembering something. The way he corrected my sword forms with techniques that seemed oddly familiar, like I'd seen them somewhere in the scattered memories of my father.I dressed quickly and headed to the training yard earlier than required. The compound was quiet except for a few servants sweeping the pathways. The air smelled fresh, carrying the scent of morning dew on grass. I liked these moments before the chaos of the day began, when I could think clearly without dozens of eyes watching my every move. But I wasn't alone.Master Shen stood in the center of the training yard, moving through sword forms so fluid they looked like a dance. His movements were precise, economical, wasting no energy. Each strike

Grandfather insisted on coming despite his injuries. We went to the Zhao compound together.Elder Zhao met us in a private room, his family council present."We've verified your documents," he said without preamble. "They're authentic. The pattern is undeniable. Our families have been manipulated."Relief flooded through me."We propose a formal alliance," Elder Zhao continued. "Effective immediately. We'll share resources, information, and military strength. Together, we'll expose the Four Pillars and bring them to justice.""We accept," grandfather said firmly. The two old men clasped hands, sealing the agreement."There's one more thing," Elder Zhao added. "My grandson, Zhao Kun. I owe you an apology, Chen Wei. He attacked you multiple times under the belief our families were enemies. That was wrong.""Apology accepted. We were both victims of the same conspiracy.""Good. Then let's plan our next move. The Four Pillars won't expect this alliance. We should use that advantage."We s

"The Zhao family attacked the Chen compound two days ago! They said it was revenge for something, but no one knows what. The fighting lasted hours!"My heart dropped. I released the man and sprinted toward my family's compound. Please let them be okay. Please.I reached the compound and found it heavily damaged. Walls were broken. Buildings burned. Bodies—both Chen and Zhao family members—lay in the courtyard."Wei!"Uncle Feng ran toward me, his arm in a sling but otherwise okay."What happened?" I demanded."The Zhao family went mad! They attacked without warning, claiming we'd stolen something from them. We fought them off, but the damage is severe. Several family members are dead. Many more injured.""Where's grandfather?""In his chambers. He was hurt during the fighting but he'll survive."I rushed to grandfather's room. He lay in bed, bandages covering his chest. But his eyes were alert when he saw me."Wei. You came home.""Of course I did. What happened here?""It was a setup

The journey north took three days of hard travel. I pushed myself relentlessly, sleeping only when exhaustion forced me to stop. Every hour mattered. Magnus would eventually realize I wasn't actually going home. When he did, he'd come looking for me. I needed to find the valley, get what I needed, and leave before that happened. The mountains grew taller and more rugged as I traveled. The road became a path, then just rough terrain. I was beyond civilization now, in wilderness rarely visited by humans. According to father's map, the Moonless Valley was hidden in a specific location—coordinates that didn't match any known landmark. I'd have to find it by careful navigation and luck. On the third evening, I reached the general area. The mountains here formed a rough circle, with several valleys between them. But which one was right? I studied father's painting, the one that had hung in his study. The valley covered in mist, with a black moon overhead. The black moon was the key.

I needed to warn grandfather. Immediately.I pulled out a communication talisman—an expensive item that let me send a message across long distances. I activated it and spoke carefully:"Grandfather, increase compound security immediately. I believe you may be targeted soon. Tell no one outside the family about this warning. Trust only Uncle Feng and Master Shen. I'm safe but in a delicate situation. Will explain more when I can."The talisman flashed, indicating the message had been sent and received. Hopefully, grandfather would take it seriously.Sleep didn't come easily that night. Too many worries, too many threats. But eventually, exhaustion won. I dreamed of towers and rituals and a darkness with my face.Morning arrived too soon. The five of us who'd passed—me, Jin Hao, Mei Lin, and the two students from other towers I didn't know well—gathered at the Tower of Gods entrance.Master Magnus greeted us personally."Welcome to your advanced training.
