The conference room was silent, thick with anticipation. The Minister sat at the head of the long polished table, flanked by ten dignitaries in clean-cut suits, exactly as Liera had mentioned. They sat poised and attentive, their faces unreadable but their eyes sharp.

Nathan sat at the other end, directly across from Heath Grover. Heath’s stare was cold and unmoving, like a predator sizing up weak prey.

Nathan shifted in his seat, adjusting his simple tie. His sleeve shirt, though neat, lacked the expensive finish of Heath’s tailored ensemble suit. His shoes were polished, but plain. It wasn’t just Heath giving him that look, several eyes along the panel had swept over Nathan with subtle judgment, noting his simplicity, his lack of presence.

You don’t belong here – that was the message, loud and clear.

The Minister cleared his throat then gave a firm nod and gestured toward Heath. "Mr. Grover, you may proceed."

Heath stood slowly, confidence radiating from his every move. He straight

Thelma's heels clicked briskly on the sidewalk as dusk cast a hazy veil over the city. She glanced behind her once more before ducking into a narrow alley. No sign of Natalia. Not this time.Earlier that morning, she'd watched Nathan drop Natalia off, and though the exchange had been brief, something about Natalia’s sidelong glances and words from earlier told Thelma she was starting to suspect. It was only a matter of time before that girl followed her instincts. The warehouse loomed in the shadows ahead, an abandoned relic of brick and rust. She tugged her coat closer, stepped inside, and found James, still tied to the chair, leaning backward, lips pressed into a grim line.He didn’t bother with pleasantries. “Didn’t you say two days?” His brows drew together. “It hasn’t even been thirty-six hours.”“I don’t have time,” Thelma said flatly. “So, give me a response. Now.”James’s frown deepened. “Why? You're scared Nathan will catch on that you’re planning to throw him into the lion’s

They turned toward her car, but Nathan halted, his steps freezing as the low hum of an engine reached his ears. A sleek silver car glided into the driveway. He tensed instantly.Taylor Monroe stepped out in a fitted cream suit, her long legs striding across the stone pavement like she owned it. Her eyes flicked over Amelia like she was nothing more than speckled dust on glass.“Hello, Nathan,” Taylor said, smiling politely but cold. Her gaze lingered again on Amelia, this time with silent judgment.Nathan gave her a nod. “Taylor. I wasn’t expecting you.”“I figured. Just wanted to personally pass along some information,” she said, her voice clipped with undertones. “From my grandfather.”Nathan’s eyes flicked subtly to Amelia before returning to Taylor. “About the association meeting, right? I know. I’ll be there tomorrow.”Taylor paused, lips slightly parted as if she wanted to say more, but quickly adjusted her expression. “Good.”Her eyes returned to Amelia. “She is…?”“I’m his fri

Nathan stared at her, his expression unreadable, then gave a simple, unwavering response.“No.”Amelia blinked, her shoulders slightly sagging. “But…”He raised a finger, silencing her with a quiet authority that left no room for protest. His eyes flicked to the wall clock.“It’s just past nine,” he said, voice even. “Not quite late. And I know the hotel is about thirty minutes from here. You can get there before ten.”She exhaled sharply, folding her arms. “No. I’ve got night blindness.”Nathan turned to look at her fully. “What?”“I said I’ve got night blindness,” she repeated, her tone still calm but firmer now. “It’s called nyctalopia. It’s a condition that makes it difficult to see clearly in low-light or darkness.”A sharp snap of his fingers echoed. “I know what it is,” he said, narrowing his gaze. “I just don’t believe you.”She chuckled under her breath. “Why? You think I’d lie about that too?”He walked a step closer, head tilted slightly. “Definitely. You’re good at pretend

Then her mind caught up.She remembered the man. His eyes. His voice. The sharp way he had flung something into the skull of her attacker. She had seen his face more clearly just before she passed out again. It was him.The man with the sharp tongue. Her heart thumped lightly. Could this be his home? She didn’t move yet. Instead, she looked around from her lying position, searching for any photo frames or personal clues. Nothing. No sign of personal identity. Whoever he was, he preferred his silence. Then came footsteps.Soft, sure.Amelia's instincts kicked in. She shut her eyes quickly and eased back into the position she had woken in, breathing slow and controlled. She was good at pretending. Had fooled her strict father more times than she could count. She heard him enter.Nathan stepped in quietly and took a seat across from her. He didn’t say anything. Just lifted the sleek black remote from the side table and pressed a button. A panel in the wall slid open smoothly, revealing a

Nathan took a slow step forward, eyes gleaming like coals under moonlight.“Your turn?” his voice came low, chilling the silence that had suddenly fallen. It pressed on everything. Not even the wind dared to whisper. He stood, his figure bathed in silver under the streetlamp, his breath steady while the four remaining men froze in place. Their earlier confidence, their filthy words, all of it dissolved into the night like steam off hot pavement. He took a single step forward. They parted. Just like that. No second thought. One slid to the right, the others staggered left. No one dared stand in his path.Nathan's eyes didn’t linger on them. Not yet. His gaze shifted downward to her. The woman. She was still lying on the ground, motionless. Her shirt half unbuttoned from the filth that had dared to touch her. Nathan dropped to one knee beside her, a soft grunt escaping his chest. He slipped off his jacket and laid it gently over her torso, concealing her from their vile eyes. Her face

After a brief rest, he slipped on a jacket and headed out on foot. The herb store wasn’t far, just a 20-minute walk and the night air felt good. He welcomed the stretch in his legs and the quiet rhythm of his footsteps on the cobbled path.He got the ingredients he needed, exchanged a few quiet words with the store owner, and began walking back. The streets were near-empty, lined with warm lamplight and the occasional scent of baked bread from closing shops. His phone buzzed in his pocket. He answered without looking.“Master, where have you been?” came Liera’s voice, slightly anxious. “You were unreachable for days.”“I’m fine,” Nathan replied, his voice even. “I only went to find something. How’s everything going on your end?”“Fine. Since you acquired that property,” she said, “we’ve had more business owners reaching out. Dynasty Group is drawing attention.”“Good,” he said, a proud smile tugging at his lips. But then he stopped. The smile vanished as quickly as it came. From up th
