Chapter Forty Three
Dera stormed out of the nightclub. The music faded into the distance, almost blending with her sobs. Her feet thumped against the damp alley as she trudged through the darkness, passing the parking lot without sparing it a glance. The street was hollow, with no traffic in sight, just silence and the sinister sound of insects blaring in her ears.Dera fell to her knees, a ball of fury erupting in her chest. Her hands flew to her face, and she let the tears flow freely, mixing with the rain that drenched her clothes. The last time she had cried like that was when she lost her father. But maybe even that loss hadn't hurt this much. Back then, she had lost someone she loved. Now, she had watched Raymond walk away from her, and with the wristwatch he returned, it felt as though he had shut the last door she had left to him. She pressed her lips together, but the tears kept coming. She didn't even know how she would find him again. She knelt and wept in the rain for what felt like forever,
Chapter Forty Two
The music pounded through the club, its bass vibrating beneath the seats. Disco lights swept across the room, flashing over the faces of the few people scattered around the dance floor. They swayed to the rhythm, while some women rolled their curvy bodies to the music for men who tossed dollar bills at them. Raymond sat alone, taking in the atmosphere. Maybe this was the most enjoyable nightclub he'd ever been to. There were only a few people around, yet the pounding music and flashing lights made the place feel livelier than it looked. Raymond took a sip from his glass and leaned back in his seat, nodding his head to the music. Someone in a black hoodie approached him. Raymond lowered his gaze, taking another sip from his glass as the figure stopped beside him without saying a word. The woman kept her face hidden beneath the hood, one hand tucked into her pocket. “I think I need to get rid of that.” Raymond turned his wrist, examining the watch. “I need to get rid of this watch.”
Chapter Forty One
“She’s about to go in!” Tyler said, sitting up in the car.Ria turned her gaze towards the windscreen and watched as a woman walked into a trailer.“What is she doing here?” Ria asked, narrowing her eyes. “Would they be hiding Raymond in a trailer?”Al could be illogical sometimes, but hiding Raymond in a trailer on the outskirts of town seemed too careless, even for him.“I don’t think he’d be that dumb,” Tyler said.Ria drummed her fingers against the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the trailer. If Raymond wasn’t there, why would Dera come here? She couldn’t shake the feeling that they were missing something. “So what the hell is Dera doing here?” she muttered.“Let’s find out!”“How are we supposed to do that?”Tyler pulled out his cocked gun before responding. He ducked his head below the dashboard to put on his shoes.“We’re going in there. Let’s shake her down and find out what she’s doing here.”Ria pressed her lips together. She glanced at the trailer one last time, before
Chapter Forty
(This is written in third person POV)Al paced the room, his teeth gritted with rage. His footsteps echoed through the room like a slow drumbeat. Two of his men stood beside him. No one dared meet his eyes.“So none of you can explain where the fuck he went?” Al stopped pacing. “What do I pay you motherfuckers for?”Dera walked in with two other men.Al’s face tightened when Dera got closer. A vein pulsed in his neck. “Where the fuck is he?” he stepped into Dera’s space. Dera shook her head. “I don’t know!” Dera’s voice cracked. Her eyes darted towards the exit. “Where the fuck were you?”“I stepped out to get some food. And he was still here when I left.”Al let out a loud breath and continued pacing the room.He suddenly stopped.“Check the CCTV footage,” he said. One of the men stepped out of the room.Al swept a cold stare across the room and continued pacing.A couple of minutes later, the man walked back in.“Boss, we have a problem,” he said, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Wh
Chapter Thirty Nine
“For how long were you going to hide?” the man said as Ria opened the door for him.Ria rolled her eyes as he brushed past her and walked into the apartment. She already regretted opening that door. “What are you doing here, Damien?” Ria asked. She stood behind him, her arms crossed over her chest.“You’re not going to offer me a drink?” Damien said, raising a brow. “You should treat an old colleague better than this.”Ria kissed her teeth and stepped toward Damien.“What do you want from me?”He sat before she’d invited him. “So you think being fired from the FBI will make me stay away from you? Come on, you and I still have unfinished business.” Damien peered into her deep blue eyes.Ria shrugged, shifting her weight. Maybe because she didn't know which emotion to express first.Maybe shame.Because she had been fired from a job she claimed to love.Or maybe she was ashamed that an ex co-worker came to mock her.And maybe she was kind of happy because she had been on house arrest
Chapter Thirty Eight
This is written in First Person POV (Raymond)Do they have beds in heaven? No!I can’t be in heaven! This has to be hell. Because for all the evil things I’ve done, I don’t think I deserve eternal life. And even if this was hell, I should be lying on a wooden surface—maybe. But this feels like a bed.The last thing I could remember was the conversation I had with Al. And after he went out of the room, it was just darkness. But before the darkness engulfed me, I saw the faint figure of someone walking in. Maybe I was hallucinating, but that figure looked kind of familiar. I just couldn’t place it.And now where the fuck is this?I can’t even move a muscle. And my eyes are shut!Is this how tightly dead people shut their eyes?I forced my eyes open, and pain shot through my head. It took a minute before I could identify the chandelier in my line of sight. I still don’t know where this is, but it’s not a hospital either. The room swam for a split second, before everything slowly settled
