The office door slammed shut as the last of the staff hurried out, leaving Evan and Vanessa alone.

The sudden silence was deafening, broken only by the faint sound of the TV still showing the scandalous headlines.

Evan’s gaze locked onto her. His voice was low.

“Tell me, Vanessa… who initiated this sale?”
