Chapter 2

Ethan’s words stunned Rosanna for a moment—she didn’t quite understand what he meant.

From the intelligence she had gathered, Ethan held a high position in Secret Company. How could Dana possibly let go of such an outstanding man?

Sensing that something was off, she quickly said, “Did… something happen? Perhaps I could invite you and Miss Dana to dinner and help clear up any misunderstandings…”

“I already said, that won’t be necessary.”

Ethan’s voice was icy cold.

Without hesitation, he mercilessly interrupted Rosanna , casually raising his hand to hail a taxi.

Rosanna bit her lip and immediately instructed her driver, “Follow that taxi!”

And so, a luxury car discreetly tailed a taxi all the way to a small tavern.

Ethan glanced calmly at the luxury car behind him but didn’t bother to chase Rosanna away. Instead, he stepped into the tavern and ordered a drink, hoping to calm himself down.

“Sir, is this seat taken?”

A charming smile appeared on Rosanna ’s face as she looked at Ethan.

Ethan sighed inwardly as he gazed at the woman before him. He felt a bit helpless, but as a gentleman, it wouldn’t be right to simply drive away a beautiful woman.

With a slight gesture of his hand, he motioned for Rosanna to sit down.

She parted her lips to speak, in attempt to break the awkward silence, she asked,

"Mr. Ethan, Your wife..."

"We've broken up," He informed, taking another shot.

"Oh...I'm so sorry..." Rosanna was awkward.

Dana and Rosanna’s companies had been competing for a long time. At the beginning, Rosanna ’s company had the upper hand—until Ethan appeared.

A series of financial losses had left Rosanna ’s family deeply disappointed in her.

If her company goes bankrupt, Rosanna will have to marry Norlan Santos, the wealthy man her parents have been pushing her to wed. The problem is, Norlan is not only overweight, but he's also 28 years older than her and, frankly, not much to look at.

That was precisely why she had been willing to risk being humiliated by Dana and personally come to apologize.

But now, things seemed completely different from what she had imagined.

“So, Rosanna, you followed me all the way here—what exactly is your purpose?” Ethan finally spoke, his voice calm and indifferent.

"Er... I actually need your help," She said coming off clean. Ethan raised his brows, asking, "What for?"

"My family's business have been on edge and we are almost going bankrupt..."

"What does that have to do with me?" Ethan cut in.

"I know you can help me." She faltered.

"I'm sorry Rosanna, you're looking on the wrong person for help," He said causing Rosanna to swallow hard.

This was literally the only chance she has or in two weeks the wedding bells would ring for her in church.

She swallowed hard, about to speak when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

She turned to look behind her only for her eyes to fall on a man in his late twenties, drunk.

Rosanna arched her brows. "Hey, pretty," he said, winking at her, ignoring the fact that there's the presence of another man in front of her.

Rosanna narrowed her eyes and poured herself a shot, feeling irritated, she asked, "Are you blind?"

"Can't you see that I'm here with a gentleman? Find your way to another table, Mr. Man; this one is not open for you," she scolded.

The man was immediately embarrassed; he scoffed, looking down at himself before taking Rosanna's hand. "Did you just say those words to me? I don't think you know who I am!" He growled.

"Let go of my hand. I'm sure that if you know who I really am, you'll care less about your own identity."

"Haha, you're nothing but a pencil in my sight," he spat. Driven by my rage and anger, Rosanna yelled at him.

"Let go of my hand, you animal. You really don't know what you're getting yourself into. I'm the CEO of Milma conglomerate, and you'll surely regret this action of yours." She threatened, but the man was unmoved by her identity.

Usually, people would tremble and bow their heads the second they hear the name Milma.

"You think so highly of yourself. The Milma is nothing compared to my brother, who is a member of the largest mafia court in the city. With just a snap of his fingers, all who he wants dead will fall dead," he bragged.

Rosanna was frightened the second she heard that his brother is a member of the largest Mafia court in the city. She just couldn't afford to provoke a Mafia, as she knew what they were capable of.

"Take your hands off her," Ethan's thick voice rang from where he sat.

The thug and the small crowd that have formed didn't notice Ethan until now. Seeing the eyes that had turned to him, Ethan stood to his feet, walking two steps closer to him,

"And who are you?" He asked, dragging Rosanna away, provoking Ethan even more.

"Let go of her hand gently and you don't have to go home, wounded," He warned, gazing sternly at the thug.

The thug sneered, "Me? Wounded? You're clearly nothing but weak bones." He turned to Rosanna, his gaze roving over her,

"And as for you sweetheart... you'd be better off warming my bed,"

Ethan's eyes suddenly blazed with fury as he clutched his fist tightly, as if restraining himself from launching an attack.

Sensing the anger in the air, the thug sneered, trying to provoke Ethan even more, "Oh come on pretty boy, don't get your feathers ruffled, I'm only stating the obvious,"

"But come to think of it. You're nothing but a pretty boy. Look how lowly you're dressed and how pale your skin is. Like someone who haven't had a good meal in days" He paused and licked his lips, touching Rosanna's butt aggressively as his eyes roved on her cleavage.

She said as they got into the elevator. "There are so many important things that I need to tell you about, but first, what kind of coffee do you take?" She inquired. Rosanna woke up with Ethan the next day. Ethan was sitting next to her, still in the tuxedo he wore the previous day for the banquet."Have you been sitting here?" Rosanna asked. "Yes... How are you feeling now? Better?" He inquired."Yeah, I'm good." She responded. The nurse walked in some minutes after with some food and water. Apparently, there was a camera in the room that the nurse could use to monitor her and see when she needed anything; it was part of the VIP services in the hospital. After Rosanna ate, Ethan knew he had to leave her under the care of the nurse. He had previously informed Lilian that he would have time for all the meetings and requests she talked about."I have to go now," Ethan said, getting to his feet."If you need anything, you can give me a call, and I can drive down," he informed her and kissed her forehead before leaving. After exiting the hospital premises, he turned on his phone, and the first call he got was from Antonio, the leader of Los Lobos."H
