“Rylan, I will be leaving the country tomorrow. I’m putting everything in your care, this old man needs to rest now. The past few months, I’ve seen your skills, talent and dedication. I trust you to make me proud.” Mr. Brian said to Rylan in the car, as they headed to the Marlowe Mansion.

Rylan slowly turned his head towards the man who had given him a new life and saved from death, embarrassment and mockery from his enemies. He was grateful and owe his life to his man.

”I would never disappoint you dad, I will the best son you could ever ask for. Please make sure you rest and enjoy yourself, everything you need will be provided at the blink of an eye.” Rylan said with his eyes getting moist as he envisioned what life would have been if Mr. Brian didn’t cross part with him.

The following day, Mr. Brian was out of the country and it was time was time for Rylan to rule and supervise about thirty companies in the country. “The day is finally here, give it your best and don’t disappoint the man who gave you the life you have now.” He said to himself, standing in front of the mirror admiring how he looked even though it was a new face given to him. “This identity is yours now Rylan, own it. The old you is dead, you are Rylan Marlowe” He said to himself, leaving his room with a stern look on his face.

“The soft hearted, weak Rylan is dead now, the new me is fierce, wicked, strict and not pitiful. I don’t care about what anyone say, I won’t be betrayed twice.” Rylan said to himself aloud as he walked towards the car.

“Didn’t you see me coming? Do I need to tell you open the door for me?” Rylan shouted at the driver who was discussing with his colleague and didn’t see him approaching.

“I’m sorry sir, I didn’t notice you were” He was interrupted.

“I’m that tiny? You are fired, get lost immediately. Where is the second driver?” He asked with a hoarse voice, looking around with a cold look on his face, noticing as the other workers shivered.

“Sir, please don’t fire me, please.” The driver begged.

“Security, throw him out.” He yelled and they obeyed immediately. “Next time you all would be serious, you think you are here to chat?”

 Rylan was driven to the first company, Marlowe Group which was the biggest company in the country and where he will be based majorly. He was accompanied with about ten body guards who drove in different cars. In less than an hour, the car came to a halt in at the entrance of the company, he saw all the staff lined up in front of the company with their head bowed to the ground.

“Is this what having power and wealth feels like?” He asked himself inwardly, while waiting for his body guard to open the door.

“Good Morning, Sir.” They all greeted in chorus, with their head still bowed to the ground.

Rylan didn’t respond nor did he turn his head to look at any of them. As he went in, he saw a man in his late thirties approaching hurriedly with a smile on his face, stretching out his hand for a shake.

“Good morning sir, Welcome to Marlowe Group.” He said with a wide grin on his face. “I am”

Rylan stop abruptly with his eyes fixated on the man’s face. “What makes you different from these other workers?” He asked with a stern look on his face.

“Pardon?”

“Your name?” He asked.

“Oh, I’m Mr. Roland and the general manager. “The manager responded still smiling.

“Well, Mr. Roland you are fired and should leave with immediate effect.” Rylan said, walking away immediately. “Another person volunteer to give me a tour.” He said, walking away without looking at anyone.

“I will.” A lady said, walking towards him. “I am Evelyn, the assistant manager.” She said but got no response.

An hour later, the tour was over and he was all alone, seated in his luxurious office. “Who would have thought that I would be the CEO of Marlowe group?” He asked inwardly, scrutinizing the office. “Everyone who wrong me, get ready to pay. Let me see how you all will escape.” He said, aloud and began going through the files on his desk.

A few minutes later, there was knock on his door and Evelyn entered, holding a file on her left hand with a smile on her face. “You have a meeting with the staffs in the company now.” She said.

“Are you my assistant? How come I wasn’t informed earlier?” He asked, staring at her but she looked away immediately.

“No sir, but if you want one.”

“Get me an assistant and focus on your job.” He said, interrupting her.

“Sure sir.” She responded with her face bowed to the ground.

“Let’s go”

Rylan walked into the conference room; there were about twenty people seated but the moment they saw him, they stood up immediately. “I thought you said, I had a meeting all the staffs, where are the rest?” He asked, seating gently while adjusting his suit.

“Yes sir, they are in the hall watching. The conference room wouldn’t be enough.” Evelyn responded, standing beside him.

“Then why are we not in the hall?” He asked, turning his head to look at her. “Is the hall not big enough? Can’t these people stand or are the more important?” He asked, looking at them one after the other.

“It’s just that.”

“Let’s move to the hall.” He said, walking away.

One minute later, they arrived at the hall and filled with over 100 staffs staring at him as he walked towards the stage. Rylan stood to address them with a straight face. Just then, his eyes met with a familiar face who was looking at him with all rapt attention and he paused.

“I see, she works here. I would make life a living hell for her.” He said inwardly, letting out a soft chuckle, which made a few people whisper among themselves.
