Enemies Identified.

“You all know, I am Rylan Marlowe, your new boss. I don’t condole lazy people, if you wouldn’t be able to work well or work me, you are free to resign now.” Rylan said, scrutinizing the hall, taking time to look at the staff.

Just then, his eyes met with the familiar face again and this time he caught her giggling with the lady beside her.

“You good for nothing over there, I’m talking and you have time to play around? Is that what you do here and get paid?” Rylan shouted.

Immediately, everyone turned their heads to look at the person he had just shouted out. They began to murmur among themselves, using their hands to cover their mouth.

“Both of you out here now” He commanded.

“I’m so sorry sir, we didn’t mean to we were just.”

“Evelyn!” He shouted, interrupting her.

“Yes sir.” She responded, rushing towards him immediately.

“What is their position in this company?” Rylan said, pointing at Sophia.

“They are file clerks sir.” She responded glaring at Sophia and her colleague with a threatening look on her face while giving them signs to apologize immediately.

They fell on kneels with a loud thud, “We are sorry sir, sorry for the disrespect.”

“I want her demoted, she doesn’t look fit for the job. Is she even educated?” He said, pointing his index finger at Sophia.

“It’s all my fault, I’m so sorry sir. Forgive me.” She apologize with tears dropping down her cheeks.

Rylan rolled his eyes at her, “I think more cleaners are needed in this company, the environment is clean to my satisfaction.”

“Sir please, don’t do this me. I will work hard from now on.” She cried out.

“You would now join the cleaners if you want to keep working here, else leave my company.” Rylan said, folding his hands across his chest.

Inaudible whispers could be heard across the hall as Sophia began to weep loudly, pondering on what she must have done to Rylan to deserve a demotion. “Why did he punish just me?”

“Okay sir, I will work as a cleaner starting today.” Sophia said, rising up to her feet.

“Suit yourself then.” Rylan responded, trying to hide the shock on his face. “Why wouldn’t she leave?” He asked inwardly with a look of disgust on his face. “Let’s see how long she can last.”

As Sophia walked back, thousands of thoughts ran through her head and she only ponder on how unlucky she was today, which happens to be her birthday. Her colleague had just informed her about the gift she had for her, which made her excited and now she got a demotion because of that.

“How do I pay my debts now? My salary would be decreased.” She said inwardly.

“Sorry Sophia.” She heard her colleagues say.

“It is fine, I would still get paid.” She responded, wiping the tears off her face.

“You should go and beg him later when he is calm.” Jane, her friend whispered in her ears, rubbing her back gently.

“He doesn’t look like someone who would listen. I don’t want to get fired, you know I have debts to pay.”

“I’m so sorry.” Jane apologized, covering her mouth with her palm to avoid being caught.

In less than thirty minutes, Rylan was done addressing the staff. He has told them everything thing he needed them to know. In his office, he sat on his chair, going through a file on his table when his phone beeped out loudly.

“What is it?”

“Sir a man is outside, demanding to see you.” The receptionist said in a shaky voice.

“What man? What is his name?” He asked, immediately dropping the file while wondering who it was.

“Your Step brother.”

“My step brother? Let him in.”

Rylan was well informed about his step brother and how he had always wanted to inherit Mr. Brian wealth instead. “I didn’t expect him to come so soon.” He muttered to himself, while staring at the door, waiting patiently for him to come.

The creaked open gently and Eric walked into grinning widely as he got closer to Rylan who remained seated on his chair, looking at him with a stern look on his face.

“This is what you always wanted right? Power and wealth. You sly dog, pretending like you never wanted it but only wanted to live.” Eric said, looking around.

“Have you heard of etiquette? Do you even know what that means, else you should knock on my door before entering.” Rylan said.

“Oh, the once timid Rylan is now bold. You dare to talk to me like that? Have you forgotten?”

“If you have nothing to say, get out or I will call the security to kick you out.” Rylan interrupted.

“I wonder how you survived. You ought to be dead, I paid those useless guys to do that.”

“There was no way you could have survived, why are you here looking better and healthier?” He said, staring at Rylan deeply.

“Because you are dumb.”

“There is something different about you.” Eric, still staring at him with his eyes moving round his body.

“Eric get out since you have nothing to do here.” Rylan shouted immediately, rising up from his chair angrily.

Eric burst out in laughter with a look of satisfaction on his face, “I knew there is no way a sickle cell patient would survive that toxin.”

“What do you mean?” Rylan asked, fixating his eyes on Eric.

“My dad can fool everyone but not me, I and Rylan grew up together.”

“So you mean you tried to kill me?”

“No, I don’t know who you are because you are definitely not Rylan.” Eric said.

“After this confession do you think I would let you walk out freely? Rylan asked, walking towards the window.

“You are not Rylan. Who are you?” He asked confidently.

 Suddenly, there was a knock on the door but Rylan ignored, he needed to settle things with Eric first and wanted no disturbance.

“I will allow you leave freely today but promise never to come back here again.”

“I will leave now, but would definitely be back to prove to the world that you are not Rylan. Can’t believe my father could do this. Tch” He said with a venomous hiss, walking towards with his face twisted with mark of rage.

 He opened the door aggressively. “Sophia?” He shouted.

“Eric?”
