“That's the punk officers, arrest him quickly!” A man in his late fifties said as he pointed in a direction after leading the police in.

Lucas, a young man with handsome features who was fully invested in some pile-up document, looked up to find the manager staring furiously at him. That aside, there were also uniformed men with handcuffs walking towards him.

He tensed up, feeling nervous and at the same time shocked by this.

“Mr manager what's the meaning of this? Why are the police here and what do they intend to do?” Lucas asked as he couldn't reckon the reason why the police had surrounded him when he did nothing.

“Cut the crap! Did you think I won't find out? The two hundred thousand dollars that went missing from the company account is taken by whom?” Derrick the manager snapped. Though he didn't complete the sentence, it was obvious that he suspected Lucas to be the culprit here.

At once, the other workers gathered around to watch the sight before them. Since it was an open office, they could easily see what was going on.

Lucas, the hardworking man was being arrested? Of course, it was an interesting event to watch and at the same time, it became the subject of gossip.

“He is the one who stole the money? He looks so innocent, yet he is rotten to the core!”

“Because of him, some workers were not paid early.”

“I wish the manager had told us first. We would have beat him into a pulp before handing him to the police!”

“Damn, I hate him already!”

The workers kept muttering among themselves while staring at Lucas with so much disgust in their eyes. Everyone thought he was a hardworking man who was all righteous and wouldn't get his hands into some dirty acts, but today he had proved them wrong.

“Young man, hands above your head!” One of the officers spoke as he brought forward the handcuffs.

Lucas was still confused but the deadly glint he saw in the officer's eyes made him jerk, and he extended his hands to the front quickly.

“Good! You are hereby under arrest for embezzlement!” The officer said and immediately placed the handcuff on his wrists.

“This is a mistake, I swear. You guys have been misled. There is no way I stole that money!” Lucas said to the officer, but they turned a deaf ear to him so he looked at Derrick. “You don't believe this, do you? I will never cheat this company. I love working for this company more than anything so why should I steal from it?” He said with pleading eyes.

“Hmp! Trying to play the victim card with me, huh? Sadly, I won't fall for that crap. I have evidence that you stole the money and it's already in the police custody. Don't worry, after you are beaten to a pulp, you will confess where all the money went.” Derrick huffed looking away. “Officers take him away please!” He said again and they jumped into action.

Lucas was dragged off his table arrogantly by the officers while his colleagues kept staring at him in disgust. He tried to say something but couldn't. How could he bring himself out of this predicament when he was still confused about the whole thing?

What would he tell his wife? What would her family think of him? A bad omen? A thief? This has to be a mistake.

“Please I am innocent!” Thinking about the implication this would all bring, Lucas snatched himself from their grip running towards Derrick, but sadly, he didn't take much step before he was nabbed. They assumed he wanted to escape when initially he wanted to talk to Derrick.

“Where do you think you are going to? You thief!” One of the police officers yelled as he pressed Lucas on the floor.

“I want to talk to Derrick, please. I am innocent, please. I swear I didn't steal any money.” Lucas said loudly, but Derrick's response roared from afar crashing every single hope he might have clung to.

“Don't think I will change my mind about you. You are so rotten to the core. You wanted more money even after how much I pay you monthly. Officers he disgusts me, please take him away!”

Lucas's face became deathly pale as he heard this. Also, he heard the voices of two people chuckling at a corner. When he looked he as it was Callum and Tristan. While others looked angry and disgusted, these two were smiling which could only mean one thing, they were the ones who framed him.

Lucas began to recall all the feuds he had with them and how they had been envious of his position. Days ago they told him they would make him lose his job. Was this the way they sought? Frame him for something he didn't do?

A look of anger appeared in his eyes as he was dragged out. He took a glance at them and watched how they kept laughing at him.

“I swear I'll make you guys pay,” Lucas swore before the officer forced him into their van and drove off to the station. He didn't need anyone to tell him before knowing his life was going to be miserable from now on.

….

In the Parkers villa, a young woman named Freya was dressed up to head out for work when her phone began to buzz. When she pulled her phone out and looked at the number, she reckoned it might be from the police as they were the only ones who used such numbers. But then she began to wonder why they would call her at such a time.

She thought deeply but quickly picked up the call.

“Hello, this is from the Star City police department. Am I talking to Freya Parkers?” An officer's voice erupted from the other side of the phone.

“Yes….” Freya replied, stuttering.

“Your husband is arrested for embezzlement of company funds. The company sued him and is demanding he pay back the two hundred thousand dollars he stole. You should do something about this, or you won't see your husband ever again.”
