“What!” Freya gasped in shock. Her eyes widened as the words shook her entire senses. Lucas? Lucas? What could he have done? She knew he was a good man, and yet, he was arrested for stealing. And if she didn't pay back the two hundred thousand she was never going to see him?

The fear of losing him made her body tremble and her heart began to palpitate inside her chest.

“I will get the money. Please don't hurt my husband.” She said, but the call was ended. She pulled back the phone to check and when she saw the call was disconnected, her heart sank.

It wasn't like she could call back. What she could do was find the money to bail him out.

Hurriedly she ran towards the living room to find her mother, Dianne Parker.

“Mom, mom,” she called out nervously. “Lucas had been arrested.” She spoke and the woman who looked to be in her early fifties and was invested in the TV she was watching, raised a brow at him.

“So? That is good news. Don't worry, I've watched it on the television. The foolish boy is hellbent on tarnishing our family's name. Let him rot in there.” Dianne replied with a look of disgust in her eyes.

“Mom? That's my husband. Please don't be like this.” Freya felt hurt by her words.

“Don't be like what? Has he ever brought any good to this family? What has he brought to us if not endless poverty and yet, you want me to feel something for him? If he had stolen from me, I would have beaten him to death!” Dianna sneered.

She never for once liked Lucas. Rather, she saw him as a poor wretched man who didn't deserve her daughter. Already, she had been praying that such a day would come when they would be able to sever ties with him, and it seemed that day was today. She just couldn't contain the excitement brewing in her chest.

“Mom! I am going to bail him out. I have some cash which I borrowed from Uncle Micheal to pay for our rent and also buy food. I'll use that money.” Freya said with a frown and was about to walk away when Dianna replied.

“Don't you dare! If you try that, I will beat you to a pulp! Are you going to waste that much money on a simpleton like him? Don't you have a common sense?” Dianna retorted, but Freya didn't pay any listening ear to her.

She wasn't going to lose her husband. Not today! She thought to herself as she stomped her feet, walking away.

“Freya! Freya! Come back here! Don't you dare walk out on me!” Dianna yelled, but she wasn't coming back. Her eyes became red as she ran towards the door, but Freya had already hopped into her car and left,

….

After an hour's drive, she arrived at the Star City police department, where Lucas was held. She immediately went to the officers to pay the money and after that, they did some little processing while she waited. Then shortly after, one of the officers went to one of the cells and dragged Lucas out.

When Freya saw him, she gasped. He was still in his office attire but was in a distorted state. His face was badly beaten, and there were so many bruises on his body. If not that she was his wife, she wouldn't have recognized him.

“Lucas?”  Tears streamed down her cheeks and she rushed towards him, ignoring the dirt on his clothes to hug him, but he stopped her.

“Wife, I don't want to stain your clothes. You are already prepared for work.” He said, and she could only stop. Though he badly wanted a hug from her, he knew he would be selfish to get it now.

“Hmp! Such a criminal! You are so rotten, yet you have a beautiful wife. I would have divorced you if I was here!” One of the officers snorted as he looked at Lucas.

Twirling his head around, Lucas found the officers staring at his wife in awe and when they looked at him, there was nothing but disgust in their eyes.

“Let's go!” Ignoring what they were saying, she grabbed Lucas's hand, leading him towards the door. He could only bow his head until they got outside the building.

When they were beside her car, he immediately spoke. “Wife, I didn't steal any money. I was framed.”  He wasn't concerned about what others might think but when it came to his wife, her trust was something he didn't want to lose as it might also affect their marriage. He didn't want that.

“I believe you. I know you wouldn't have done that.” She cupped his chin, smiling. Though her words were genuine, she couldn't blink back the tears in her eyes.

Lucas felt pain surging inside his head. He clenched his fist tightly and swore he was going to make Tristan and Callum pay for doing this to him.

Beep! Beep!

Suddenly, her phone began to ring and she was unable to ignore it. Pulling the phone out, she saw it was her boss.

“Hello, Freya, where are you?” A roar could be heard from the other side of the phone.

“Boss, I'm sorry, I'm on my way.” She replied and hurriedly tossed her car key at Lucas before walking away. “Drive home, I'll use a cab.” She said before continuing the call.

Lucas stared at her for a while as she left before walking to the car and hopped in. A sigh escaped his lips as he drove out of the premises.

As he was driving, he couldn't help but think about his wife. She was very kind, the best and the only woman he wanted to spend his life with. She didn't berate him or scold him even after spending such an amount to bail him out.

He was so invested in his thoughts and didn't know a black SUV was following him. When he took another street leading to the highway, the car zoomed in on him.

Lucas thought the car wanted to dive past him, but he was mistaken. The car glass was whined down and the next thing, someone pulled out a gun and shot at him three times.

Lucas didn’t understand what was going on. His body froze and blood began to trickle down his forehead. Next thing, his car bumped into a pole and flipped over.

Bang. Another gunshot was heard, and the next thing there was a massive explosion.

  • Happy at last, the end

That night, Freya wore a sexy lingerie, revealing her perfect body and curves as she set the dining table, while Lucas watched, mesmerized by her body. He leaned back in his chair, a smile tugging at his lips. “How much I’ve missed this,”he thought, the sight of her filling him, something hadn’t felt in a long time.“Everything looks perfect,” Lucas said softly, his voice breaking the quiet. Freya glanced at him, her eyes shining. “I wanted tonight to feel special,” she replied, smoothing the tablecloth with her hand. Lucas stood, unable to stay seated any longer. He walked over and slipped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder. She let out a small laugh, surprised but happy, leaning back against him. “I’ve missed you,” he whispered, his voice low and sincere. Freya turned her head slightly, catching his gaze. “I’ve missed you too,” she said.I smiled wearily as my hand started caressing her bare skin, she inhaled sharply and I could see h

  • Visiting Davis

They had almost walked to their car to leave the Prison, when Lucas slowed down and he looked Freya thoughtfully.“Freya,” he said quietly, “before we leave, I want to see President Davis.” Freya stopped on her tracks, her eyes widening. “Lucas, no. I don’t want you to see him. That man has caused us pain for so long. Why would you want to face him now?” Lucas’s gaze was steady. “Because I need to. I need to look him in the eye and know that he can’t hurt us anymore. There’s nothing to worry about, I promise you.” He answered calmly. Freya shook her head, her grip tightening on his hand. “I don’t trust him. I don’t want you anywhere near him. Haven’t we suffered enough?” Lucas stepped closer, his voice gentle but resolute. “I understand how you feel. But this isn’t about him anymore…it’s about us. I need to do this, for my own peace.”Freya hesitated, her heart pounding. She searched his face, seeing the determination there, and she sighed, her shoulders relaxing. “Alright,”

  • Visiting Dianne

Three days later, the morning air at the airport carried a mix of excitement and sadness. Lucas and Freya walked on either side of Daniel, their steps slow, as if they wanted to stretch out the moments before he had to leave. Daniel held his small suitcase in one hand, his boarding pass tucked neatly into his jacket pocket. He looked calm, but his eyes betrayed a flicker of nerves. Freya glanced at him and smiled softly. “You’re really going back today,” she said, her voice warm but tinged with emotion. Daniel nodded. “Yeah. Work’s waiting. I can’t put it off any longer.” He paused, then added, “But I’ll miss this. I’ll miss you both.” Lucas gave a short laugh, trying to lighten the mood. “Don’t get too sentimental. We’ll be leaving in two days ourselves. Just need to tidy up a few loose ends before we go.” Daniel looked at him with gratitude. “I know. Still, it feels strange. We’ve been together almost every day, and now suddenly we’re scattering again.” They reached the

  • Getting his life back

Daniel pressed the phone tighter against his ear, uncertain if he had caught Camille’s words correctly.“Sorry… could you repeat that?” he asked, his voice carrying a mix of disbelief and hesitation. “I said you back Daniel, not just as my employee, I want to make you a senior advocate. And along with that, I’ll be increasing your salary.” She said clearly for him to hear properly.“You mean… senior advocate? Officially?” He asked after a brief moment of silence, this was too good to be true.“Yes,” Camille replied without hesitation. “Officially. You’ve earned it. Back then, I’ve seen the way you handle cases, the way you stay late, the way you push through even when things look impossible. That kind of commitment deserves recognition, and I want to make sure you’re rewarded for it.” “And it was shame on us for loosing someone as great as you, we should have investigated what happened then properly Daniel, instead of assuming.” She added and Daniel let out a shaky breath. • Please we need you

Two days passed. The trial that had shaken the nation was over. President Davis, once untouchable, had been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.Daniel sat across from Lucas in a quiet room, the tension of the past days finally easing. His hands rested on the table, his eyes distant, heavy with thought. “It’s done,” Daniel said softly. “I cant believe my father has finally gotten justice.” Lucas leaned back, studying him with a steady gaze. “You fought hard for this Lucas. What will you do now?” Daniel hesitated, his voice trembling with uncertainty. “I don’t know. For so long, everything I did was about him, about making sure his death wasn’t forgotten. Now that President Davis is gone, I feel… empty. Like I don’t know who I am without the fight.” Lucas leaned forward, he said calmly. “Then it’s time to live for yourself. Your father wanted you to have a life, not just a battle. You’ve honored him. Now you need to decide what future you want…whether it’s

  • Going somewhere?

The courtroom had already been shaken by the arrests of Davis’ associates, but Gabriel’s lawyer was not finished. He stepped forward once more. “Your Honor,” he said, “we have one final piece of evidence. A video feed.” The judge gave a go ahead and the lights dimmed slightly as the screen flickered to life. The room held its breath. On the screen appeared grainy footage, but clear enough to see the people in it.It was President Davis and his voice rang out, cold and commanding. “Take him out. Make sure he never speaks again.” The camera shifted, showing the moment the order was carried out, Daniel’s father was shot down mercilessly. The courtroom gasped, the horror of the scene pressing down on everyone present. Gabriel’s lawyer turned to the judge. “This footage was given to Lucas by Late Mr Hector. Even in his death he still made sure justice would be served.”Daniel’s face crumpled, grief and rage colliding in his eyes, he bowed his head, unable to watch.“We have one mo
