“What!” Freya gasped in shock. Her eyes widened as the words shook her entire senses. Lucas? Lucas? What could he have done? She knew he was a good man, and yet, he was arrested for stealing. And if she didn't pay back the two hundred thousand she was never going to see him?
The fear of losing him made her body tremble and her heart began to palpitate inside her chest. “I will get the money. Please don't hurt my husband.” She said, but the call was ended. She pulled back the phone to check and when she saw the call was disconnected, her heart sank. It wasn't like she could call back. What she could do was find the money to bail him out. Hurriedly she ran towards the living room to find her mother, Dianne Parker. “Mom, mom,” she called out nervously. “Lucas had been arrested.” She spoke and the woman who looked to be in her early fifties and was invested in the TV she was watching, raised a brow at him. “So? That is good news. Don't worry, I've watched it on the television. The foolish boy is hellbent on tarnishing our family's name. Let him rot in there.” Dianne replied with a look of disgust in her eyes. “Mom? That's my husband. Please don't be like this.” Freya felt hurt by her words. “Don't be like what? Has he ever brought any good to this family? What has he brought to us if not endless poverty and yet, you want me to feel something for him? If he had stolen from me, I would have beaten him to death!” Dianna sneered. She never for once liked Lucas. Rather, she saw him as a poor wretched man who didn't deserve her daughter. Already, she had been praying that such a day would come when they would be able to sever ties with him, and it seemed that day was today. She just couldn't contain the excitement brewing in her chest. “Mom! I am going to bail him out. I have some cash which I borrowed from Uncle Micheal to pay for our rent and also buy food. I'll use that money.” Freya said with a frown and was about to walk away when Dianna replied. “Don't you dare! If you try that, I will beat you to a pulp! Are you going to waste that much money on a simpleton like him? Don't you have a common sense?” Dianna retorted, but Freya didn't pay any listening ear to her. She wasn't going to lose her husband. Not today! She thought to herself as she stomped her feet, walking away. “Freya! Freya! Come back here! Don't you dare walk out on me!” Dianna yelled, but she wasn't coming back. Her eyes became red as she ran towards the door, but Freya had already hopped into her car and left, …. After an hour's drive, she arrived at the Star City police department, where Lucas was held. She immediately went to the officers to pay the money and after that, they did some little processing while she waited. Then shortly after, one of the officers went to one of the cells and dragged Lucas out. When Freya saw him, she gasped. He was still in his office attire but was in a distorted state. His face was badly beaten, and there were so many bruises on his body. If not that she was his wife, she wouldn't have recognized him. “Lucas?” Tears streamed down her cheeks and she rushed towards him, ignoring the dirt on his clothes to hug him, but he stopped her. “Wife, I don't want to stain your clothes. You are already prepared for work.” He said, and she could only stop. Though he badly wanted a hug from her, he knew he would be selfish to get it now. “Hmp! Such a criminal! You are so rotten, yet you have a beautiful wife. I would have divorced you if I was here!” One of the officers snorted as he looked at Lucas. Twirling his head around, Lucas found the officers staring at his wife in awe and when they looked at him, there was nothing but disgust in their eyes. “Let's go!” Ignoring what they were saying, she grabbed Lucas's hand, leading him towards the door. He could only bow his head until they got outside the building. When they were beside her car, he immediately spoke. “Wife, I didn't steal any money. I was framed.” He wasn't concerned about what others might think but when it came to his wife, her trust was something he didn't want to lose as it might also affect their marriage. He didn't want that. “I believe you. I know you wouldn't have done that.” She cupped his chin, smiling. Though her words were genuine, she couldn't blink back the tears in her eyes. Lucas felt pain surging inside his head. He clenched his fist tightly and swore he was going to make Tristan and Callum pay for doing this to him. Beep! Beep! Suddenly, her phone began to ring and she was unable to ignore it. Pulling the phone out, she saw it was her boss. “Hello, Freya, where are you?” A roar could be heard from the other side of the phone. “Boss, I'm sorry, I'm on my way.” She replied and hurriedly tossed her car key at Lucas before walking away. “Drive home, I'll use a cab.” She said before continuing the call. Lucas stared at her for a while as she left before walking to the car and hopped in. A sigh escaped his lips as he drove out of the premises. As he was driving, he couldn't help but think about his wife. She was very kind, the best and the only woman he wanted to spend his life with. She didn't berate him or scold him even after spending such an amount to bail him out. He was so invested in his thoughts and didn't know a black SUV was following him. When he took another street leading to the highway, the car zoomed in on him. Lucas thought the car wanted to dive past him, but he was mistaken. The car glass was whined down and the next thing, someone pulled out a gun and shot at him three times. Lucas didn’t understand what was going on. His body froze and blood began to trickle down his forehead. Next thing, his car bumped into a pole and flipped over. Bang. Another gunshot was heard, and the next thing there was a massive explosion.Latest Chapter
Assault
After the backlash, Lucas released a full audit that revealed how Hector’s fake charities were secretly being used to move money into offshore accounts. The documents showed clear evidence of laundering, and this quickly became a huge story. The media reacted strongly, with many reporters and commentators questioning Hector’s true personality and whether he had been hiding behind a false image all along. People began to wonder if Hector was ever honest, or if everything he built was based on lies. At the same time, another big question spread across social networks and news outlets: who was the person that leaked this information? Was it really Lucas, or was there someone else working in the shadows? The mystery of the anonymous leak added even more drama to the scandal, making the public eager to know the truth. The story grew bigger every day, with headlines focusing not only on Hector’s corruption but also on the unknown figure who exposed it. Some praised the leak as an act
Show dominance
122The fallout from the interview was worse than either of them had imagined. Within days, the company’s stocks began to tumble. Headlines screamed about instability, investors pulled back, and the mocking videos circulating online only added fuel to the fire. Every time he checked his phone, there was another article dissecting his outburst, another thread debating his character. Freya tried to stay calm, but she could see the damage spreading. One evening, as they sat in the living room with the television muted, she turned to him. “What about the investigator you hired?” she asked firmly. “We need answers, we need to show people we’re handling this. Where is he?” He hesitated, staring at the floor. The silence stretched too long. Finally, he muttered, “I don’t know.” Her eyes widened in disbelief. “You don’t know? After everything that’s happening, you can’t even tell me where the investigator is? This is exactly what I warned you about. You’re slipping back into self-destru
Calling him all sorts of names
121 The next morning, Lucas went to check on the investigator, but when he arrived, the man was nowhere to be found. It was as if he had completely disappeared without leaving a trace. Lucas asked around, but nobody seemed to know where the investigator had gone or what had happened to him. The sudden vanishing left Lucas uneasy, and a cold feeling settled in his chest. He chose not to tell Freya about it, worried that she might panic or get dragged into the danger. But soon, Lucas began receiving anonymous death threats. The messages came through phone calls, emails, and even letters slipped under his office door. Each one carried a chilling warning, and the constant harassment started to disturb his peace of mind. That evening, his phone rang, call from an unknown number, hesitantly, Lucas picked the call. “Lucas… stop asking questions. If you don’t, you won’t live to regret it.” The caller threatened.Lucas froze, gripping the phone tightly. “Who is this? What do you want?”
Finding something
Hector sat with his head in his hands, frustration boiling inside him. “I can’t keep living like this, Freya,” he muttered. “I want to take him to court. I want to sue Hector. I can’t just let this go.” Freya leaned forward, her voice calm but firm. “Listen to me. Right now, the court is not on your side. If you push too hard, you’ll only hurt yourself. The judges, the lawyers… everything is leaning in Hector’s favor.” He looked up, anger flashing in his eyes. “So I’m just supposed to sit here and do nothing?” “No,” Freya replied softly. “You’re supposed to breathe. To wait. To stay calm. If you let this consume you, you’ll go back to the man you used to be—the ruthless one, the one who lost himself in anger. And I don’t want to see you become that person again.” Hector clenched his fists, his voice shaking. “But it feels like he’s winning. It feels like I’m powerless.” Freya reached out, placing a hand on his arm. “You’re not powerless. You’re just impatient. Some
The war has only just began
Lucas woke to the sharp buzz of his phone vibrating against the nightstand. His eyes were still heavy with sleep when he noticed the message, an unknown number. He frowned, thumb hovering uncertainly before opening it. “Check your TV."The words were short, cold, and carried a weight that made his stomach tighten. He didn’t need to guess who it was. Hector. Lucas threw the blanket aside and rushed into the living room, his heart pounding. He grabbed the remote with trembling fingers and switched on the television. The screen lit up, and every channel he flipped to carried the same story: his company, the empire he had built with sweat and sleepless nights, was being accused of laundering money. Anchors spoke with grave voices, analysts dissected supposed evidence, and scrolling headlines screamed betrayal. His name was everywhere, Lucas Ross, CEO of Lucas Coporation, under investigation. He sank into the couch, his pulse racing. This wasn’t just rumor. It was orchestrated. He

Lucas' mind raced as he stared in chaos, his heart blazing with confusion.“Search the premises!” The commander snapped.Lucas ran forward immediately, his breath faltered. His eyes rolled at the officer as sweat beaded on his head. His soul trembled as he stood before them, his eyes glowing with fear. His mind raced with ways to get out of this mess and found none.“Can I see a warrant?” He asked frantically, his face reddened, because he couldn’t just let them search his property without a warrant. The officer's eyes shone at him with rage, his breath burning hot with unfiltered rage, he didn’t expect Lucas to demand for a warrant, but anyway he came prepared.“Here!” He shoved it in his face and walked away. His eyes scanned through the papers carefully and his heart raced against time. Lucas stared at them softly, his heart calming softly. Deep down in his mind, he knew exactly
