Aelia’s POV

“You’re seriously thinking about breaking into the library?”

I stare at Kai who looks completely unbothered. “Yes.”

I shouldn’t be surprised because ever since the issue with the order of dawn, he has become obsessed with finding everything that has to do with Vazaroth as he blames him for a lot of things that has happened so far and I can’t say I blame him nor do I think he is wrong. But breaking into the academy's forbidden library is too risky.

Kai’s POVTo say the library is huge will be an understatement. There are rows of plenty of shelves lining different corners and most are covered in dust. Unlike the academy’s ordinary library, there are no tables or reading stations. Only old looking books, scrolls, stone tablets, and strange objects displayed behind some glass. Some of the shelves are also surrounded by glowing barriers and Aelia approaches the closest one. “These look similar to the same inscriptions we saw on the door,” she says and Silvy joins her, examines the barrier also.“I think there’s a difference. This looks Older, actually. Some of these symbols aren’t even in the academy’s standard magical records for students to read.”Aelia points toward another shelf. “What’s that?” We all turn and see a thick book resting behind the glass. Its cover is made of dark material, and a symbol is plastered on its surface. I move toward it quietly but the moment I get close, something strange happens. My necklace shifts sl

Aelia’s POV“You’re seriously thinking about breaking into the library?”I stare at Kai who looks completely unbothered. “Yes.”I shouldn’t be surprised because ever since the issue with the order of dawn, he has become obsessed with finding everything that has to do with Vazaroth as he blames him for a lot of things that has happened so far and I can’t say I blame him nor do I think he is wrong. But breaking into the academy's forbidden library is too risky. Silvy closes the big book in her hands. “Fine. Since he has already decided he wants to do this, let’s just focus on how this is supposed to go. We need to know exactly what we’re doing.”I still don’t know how the scared Silvy agreed to do this. Maybe it was the part where I told her that Jafser was a traitor, and she felt guilty because they had a relationship when he was in the Academy. Whatever it is, she volunteered to help Kai into the library because she’s the one who knows most of these books and knows which one is suppo

  • A Lost Child

Kai’s POV“Tell my brother I am sorry. Tell my parents to forgive me. I never meant to do any of those things. I just got greedy and ahead of myself.”Aviala stares up at me as she speaks. Aelia is kneeling beside her. “Don’t talk like that, you will be fine then you can go and apologise to them yourself.” Aviala shakes her head. “No, there’s no coming out of this. I can feel it. Whatever spell they used to create this is not ordinary.”She holds my gaze. “If Jafser is betraying you and they were able to come up with something like this, I’m sure they are prepared for your powers. You both have to leave now before things get out of hand. And don’t feel bad for me, I’m only getting what I deserve. Aelia didn’t leave the school because she wanted to, I made her just so I could have you for myself. And you are right. If I had managed to get you, I would have used your power for a lot of evil. I wasn’t brought up this way but something went wrong along the line. But like I said before, do

  • Unexpected Ally.

Aelia’s POV Aviala and I bend behind a stack of wooden crates, watching through the narrow opening between them. Kai is standing in the middle of the room, surrounded by several men. Two of them are fastening strange metal restraints around his wrists. My heart tightens. “Those things are suppressing his magic,” Aviala whispers. I look at her. “Can you break them?” She shakes her head. “Not from here. I need to get closer.” Before I can respond again, someone speaks. “Make sure the restraints are properly secured. We cannot afford an incident.” I pause, recognizing the voice immediately. It’s Jafser. I look through the opening again, wondering if I heard wrong, but clearly I didn’t. He’s standing beside the man who brought Kai here, arms folded across his chest. There’s no trace of his usual cheeky expression. No jokes or laughter. He looks completely different. What is going on? What is he doing here? “Jafser?” I whisper. Aviala glances at me. “What? Jafser?” She looks back in

  • My fault

Aelia’s POVI can’t see or hear anything they’re saying anymore. It’s like they suddenly blocked me out, but I know they are there. I know Kai is in the other room. The man locked the door behind me in a way that I will not be able to leave, but I am not ready to give up so I continue searching around the room for any opening. Even if it is a small window or a crawlspace, I will force myself through it.After almost thirty minutes of searching, my wish comes true as I see a small crawlspace, covered with some bumble leaves. I push them aside and draw in a deep breath, preparing to go out. Just then, I hear the door knob shaking, indicating that someone wants to come in.I don’t even want to see who it is. I just put my body in the hole and push with all my strength until I find myself halfway out. I push hard, trying hard not to make any sound so I don’t attract whoever it is that is trying to come in. Finally, I manage to break out and cover the leaves back in place right when I hea

  • No More Pretense

Jafser’s POV“My mission is done. I don’t have to pretend anymore.” Kai stares at me as the words leave my mouth. For a moment, he says nothing. The men continue to surround him until I raise a fisted hand. They all pause and Kai makes the first sound in a while by letting out a short, disbelieving laugh. “You’re joking, right?”I say nothing. He laughs again. “Come on, Jafser. This isn’t funny. Cut the crap.” I stare. “Do I look like I’m joking?” His hopeful smile disappears and I watch as the realization slowly settles in. He looks at the men surrounding him earlier then back at me. “What mission exactly?”“The one I was sent to the academy to complete,” I reply simply. “Sent by who?” I look at one of the men who is my subordinate. “Tell him.” The man steps forward.“It’s the same thing I told you before, Kai. We have been looking for you for a very long time, Kai. And when we got a whiff that you were at the academy, Jafser was assigned to get close to you and gather information a
