The hall exploded into hysterical, cruel laughter that echoed off the rafters.
"It’s a stray dog! A literal gutter hound!"
"It’s a perfect match for a beggar! Look, they both look like they haven't eaten in a week!" Elara lets out a mocking snicker.
Chris was laughing so hard he had to lean on his beast for support. Elara just shook her head, her face a mask of cold pity.
"I actually thought you might be something, Alex. What a total waste of my time."
“You can't really blame him, at least, he was able to break the family cursed line and awaken something, even though it's below worthless in my candid opinion.”
The Master’s face was frozen in fury. "A Gray-rank failure. The lowest summon in fifty years. Guards, get this garbage out of my sight. He’s an intern now. Let him clean the kennels until he learns to be invisible."
He stepped closer towards Alex, the aura that emitted from him enough to tear down an already broken Alex but he kept his face emotionless.
“The law states that anyone that awakens a beast can get into the academy doesn't it?”
“What gives you the right to say otherwise!” Alex was injured with raised brows.
He might not have the best beast, or skills, or the best background but he made up for all his flops with his sharp intellect.
“Do you dare to challenge me?” The Master growled, his aura preventing everyone from doing so much as breath.
“I wouldn't call it a challenge, more like jogging your memory!” He responded.
The supervisor, a gray haired man observing from the rear, quickly stepped in.
“Step away Kev, the boy is right!”
“But…’ Kev tried to object, all the vines on his body bulging with anger.
“No buts, the law is the law and as long as they haven't been changed, they must be obeyed.”
A growl threw through Kev's throats before he backed down with a stare that looked more like a threat to Alex's entire existence.
“Don't take this as support. It's just the law.” Henry noted.
“But be aware that the fact that you awakened a beast doesn't mean that you have to contract it.
You can choose not to… Going to the academy with that thing would be more like a death sentence.
So I will ask you again, is it really worth the risk?”
Alex looked at the mutt, drawing an animal that just escaped death.
Everything screamed at him to accept the offer and take the academy money.
But he felt pity. If a beast was not contracted, it meant that they would not exist forever.
And he knew what it meant to be humiliated, to be written off even before you were given a chance…
“I will contract it!” Alex announced with a clenched fist and the whole hall gasped.
“Well then!” The supervisor lets out a disappointed sigh.
Meanwhile, during the breaks, Alex returned to the stables to eat his poor dinner.
"I'm sorry," Alex whispered hours later, sitting in the corner of the damp, freezing stables.
The hairless dog huddled against his leg, its body shaking with a pathetic heartbeat so weak Alex had to hold his breath to feel it.
After finishing his meal, he handed some to the beast before walking to the beast room, making sure that everyone was fast asleep.
For now, the beast had to be kept in a room until the tamers learned to enhance them in the beast spaces in their minds.
The instant Alex reached the door, he was hit by the air of intimidation.
Different beasts stared at him like death, the aura that emitted from these powerful beasts were enough to make his blood run could.
And at the center of it all, he could see two fire eyes stared right into his soul, Chris beast.
Then his mutt let out something like a whimper and Alex turned to it.
“Don't be frightened, it's just for a fearful night..” he tried to say but there was nothing that spoke fear in the eyes of the beast.
Rather, the earth underneath Alex shook, all the beast lined up from their spaces, and one after the other, they took a bowing position.
Alex quickly stared behind him, but there was no one there.
Confusion bored into his being as he tried to make sense of what was happening right before him.
“Are they bowing before me!” He watched their eyes, slowly followed it and they fell on the mutt beside him, his beast.
But this time, it glowed with the faint encase of authority, something that he had not seen before.
And the beast didn't just look at him with respect, their being shook with a mystical fear unlike anything that he had ever seen before.
And just then, it chimed.

A translucent blue screen flickered into life right in front of his face, glowing with a divine light that ignored the shadows of the stable.
"What is this?" Alex scrambled back, his heart hammering against his ribs.

Alex looked down at the pathetic, shivering mutt.
The dog looked back, and for one split second, its eyes turned into swirling pits of violet darkness.
All the high-rank beasts in the stable suddenly went silent, backing into the corners of their cages in pure, primitive terror.
And then, Alex felt a cold, sharp smile spread across his face, his fear replaced by a sudden, predatory heat. "So, you're the monster they're all afraid of?"

Chapter 10
The silence in the arena didn't last. It was soon, replaced by a wave of frantic whispers and nervous laughter. No one wanted to believe what they had just seen. A scholarship student from the slums had just sent the academy’s golden boy through a stone pillar with a single punch wad an impossible reality to picture. It was impossible. It was a glitch in the universe."He slipped!" someone shouted from the upper tiers. "Did you see that? Chris must have lost his footing right when he swung. The scavenger just got lucky and caught him off balance!""Exactly," Julian added, his voice trembling as he clutched his bandaged jaw. "Chris has been training day and night. He hasn’t even eaten properly for three days to sharpen his senses. He’s exhausted! That’s the only reason that piece of filth stayed on his feet."The lie caught fire instantly. It was a comforting blanket that the noble students wrapped themselves in. They couldn't afford a reality where Alex was stronger. They mocked
Chapter 9
The grouping arena was a sea of noise, but it was a one-sided sound. Thousands of students were shouting Chris’s name, their voices merging into a low, rhythmic chant that vibrated through the stone floor. To them, this wasn't a duel; it was a public execution. They wanted to see the "scavenger" put back in his place. They wanted to see the dirt stay in the dirt."You really should have just taken the apology and run," Liora said, her voice cutting through the noise as she stood near Alex in the preparation area. She looked at him with that same complicated expression—disgust mixed with a flickering, unwanted curiosity. "By accepting this, you’ve given him a legal reason to break you. Don't look at me for help when you’re being carried out on a stretcher."Alex didn't look at her. He was busy adjusting the straps of his basic-issue battle suit. It was a worn, gray thing made of reinforced leather and cheap fiber, meant to dampen blows during training. Compared to the shimmering, go
Chapter 8
The tension in the grouping arena was so thick hearing Chris say these words.Dark arts in the tamers world were utterly forbidden and mostly disgraceful.Liora, the girl from Greduant who had spent the night in Alex’s room, stood a few paces away. Her eyes were fixed on Alex, but they weren't filled with the gratitude he might have expected from a roommate. Instead, her face was twisted in deep, disgust. "Dark arts?" Liora whispered, her voice carrying just enough to reach the surrounding students. She looked at Julian, who was still nursing his bandaged jaw and trembling whenever the Shadow Stalker moved. "I knew you were a lowly commoner, but to use forbidden soul-shrinking techniques to win a fight? That isn't just disgraceful, it’s criminal. My academy would have had your head for such a stunt."Alex turned his head slightly, giving her a look that was more bored than defensive. "You’ve been here for less than twenty-four hours and you already think you’re a judge? I won that
Chapter 7
Alex could sense the heat of her disdain pulsing off from her words.“Is this the low techniques poor pervs like you pull of lately?” She sneered, bringing Alex back to reality. He could feel the metallic taste of irritation on his tongue. Another high and mighty horse who thought they could trample on anyone that they come across.“Don't you have a wide mouth for someone that's is trespassing into another person's room?” Alex raised his key cards, revealing the room number that was written on it.The girl, whose name was Liora, moved off from the bed with practiced grace."I see," she whispered, her voice suddenly turning sharp as glass. “So you want me to believe that in some way, this is also your room? You perv?”“You must have searched for my status, and then come up with a forced proximity plan. But what do you think, that we're living in novels? You sickly poor bastard?”Alex frowned, his brow furrowing in genuine confusion and a tat miss of irritation"Searched? I don't even
Chapter 6
Julian stood in the center of the training yard, his arm still frozen in a pointing gesture. He looked like a statue of a fool. The crowd was so silent that the distant sound of a bird felt like a thunderclap. His Flame Lion—the pride of the Hummer family, an S-tier beast that was supposed to be invincible—was gone. It had tucked its tail and run like a beaten street cur, leaving a trail of melting frost on the stone floor."Lion? Flare? Get back here!" Julian finally croaked, his voice cracking. He reached into his belt and pulled out a handful of high-grade fire crystals, the kind that cost more than a year of Alex’s tuition. "I have your favorite treats! Come back!"But the only response he got was a silent defiance that echoed his defeat.Julian’s face went from pale to a ghostly white. He turned toward the shadows where his beast had vanished, then back to Alex. The arrogance that usually sat on his face like a crown had been shattered into a thousand pieces. He knew the impl
Chapter 5
The laughter stopped instantly. The silence that followed was heavy and cold. Kael’s face turned an ugly, dark purple, the veins in his neck bulging like snakes."What did you say to me?" Kael hissed. The Flame Lion sensed its master’s rage and let out a low, bone-shaking growl. The air around the beast began to shimmer with heat."I said you’re a servant in fancy clothes," Alex said, stepping closer. He dropped the rag into the dust. "If you want your beast cleaned, do it yourself. I’m busy."Kael’s eyes went wide with fury. "You’re dead. You think because you awakened a stray dog that you’re a tamer? I’ll have my lion rip your throat out and the teachers will call it an 'accident during training'."Kael pointed a finger at Alex. "Lion! Teach this beggar his place! Bite off his hand!"The Flame Lion roared, a sound that made the weaker students cover their ears. It lunged forward, its flaming claws extended, aiming directly for Alex’s head."You've got hands, Julian," Alex said, his
