After sitting for quite some time, Kieran finally stood up. He walked slowly along the garden path, then reentered the hospital building through the side door.

His steps were unhurried. A nurse who passed by him only glanced briefly and gave a small nod. A doctor coming out of an examination room even offered a faint smile, perhaps assuming the young patient was simply taking a casual walk to pass the time.

No one was suspicious. Meanwhile, Kieran’s eyes moved subtly, noting every detail.

In his mind, he spoke quietly to the system, “Create a detailed map of this building.”

A few seconds later, transparent lines seemed to spread across his thoughts.

[Data is being mapped…]

[Structures of floors one to three have been recorded.]

Kieran did not change his expression. He still looked like a teenager leisurely spending his free time.

Tonight, he would act.

After feeling it was enough, he returned to his hospital room. The door was open. However, the moment he stepped inside, the room was empty. The small chair where his mother had sat that morning was no longer occupied.

Kieran paused for a moment.

Had she already left?

Perhaps she had gone back to work early.

But before he could sit down, hurried footsteps echoed from the corridor. The door opened wider, and his mother appeared, breathing slightly out of breath. As soon as she saw him, the woman immediately approached and gripped his hand tightly.

“Where were you?” Her voice sounded like a mix of relief and anxiety. “I looked in the garden, in the next corridor, you weren’t there. You didn’t say you were going anywhere else.”

Kieran fell briefly silent as he saw how pale her face was from panic.

“I just walked around for a bit. I took the side stairs earlier. Maybe we didn’t run into each other.”

The woman still held his hand, as if making sure he was truly there in front of her. A few seconds later, her grip loosened.

“I thought…” She did not finish her sentence.

Kieran looked at her and asked, “What is it?”

Instead of answering directly, she changed the subject.

“The doctor was looking for you for an examination. Since you weren’t here, he postponed it for a while. He said he would come again.”

As if responding to her words, a knock soon sounded on the door. The doctor who had examined him yesterday entered with a nurse.

“Perfect timing, you’re back,” the doctor said.

The examination did not take long. Blood pressure, pupil response, breathing, a few simple questions to ensure awareness and physical stability.

Kieran answered calmly. His body was cooperative. There were no unusual symptoms.

The doctor finally closed his notes.

“Your recovery is very good. Physically, you are already stable. If there are no other complaints, you can go home tomorrow after the administration and payment are settled.”

His mother seemed stunned for a moment, then her face gradually filled with relief. Her eyes grew slightly moist.

“Thank you, Doctor. Thank you very much,” she said repeatedly while giving a small bow.

The doctor only nodded and left the room.

Once the door closed, the atmosphere became quiet. The happiness on the woman’s face was still there, but behind it lay a trace of unease.

Kieran noticed that subtle change.

“I have to go back to work,” she said softly after a moment. She tried to smile, as if everything was fine.

“You just rest. Don’t go anywhere.”

Kieran wanted to tell her to stay and rest. Since this morning, the woman had not even truly slept. But the words remained unspoken. Tomorrow they had to settle the hospital bill. Without money, he would not be able to leave.

In the end, Kieran only let out a soft sigh.

“I won’t go anywhere,” he said briefly, trying to reassure her.

The woman nodded, tidied her bag, and looked at him once more as if to make sure he was truly all right, before finally stepping out of the room.

The door closed and the room returned to silence.

Kieran’s gaze slowly changed. Tomorrow he would leave the hospital, and tonight, everything had to begin moving.

Night came faster than he realized. Kieran lay still on his bed, eyes closed, his breathing slow and steady. If someone entered to check on him, he would look like a patient already fast asleep.

He waited until the last footsteps in the corridor faded away before opening his eyes.

His movements were unhurried. He sat up slowly, then got down from the bed without making a sound.

Earlier that afternoon, he had carefully observed the condition of this room. One CCTV camera was installed in the upper corner near the door. Its angle covered most of the room except for a small area near the bathroom.

He walked to the bathroom as if he simply needed to relieve himself.

“Help manipulate the camera feed for five minutes. Loop the last footage before I move.”

[Manipulation scope: Room 312 camera.]

[Last 47 seconds of visual loop successfully saved.]

[Override initiated.]

Kieran gave a slight nod.

He stepped back out into the room. Quickly, he rolled up several pieces of clothing, an extra blanket, and a small pillow. He shaped them to resemble the silhouette of a sleeping body, then pulled the blanket over the “figure” neatly.

After ensuring there was no suspicious detail, he stepped out.

The corridor at night was different from during the day. Even so, Kieran moved without a sound.

In his previous life, he had been trained to move in confined spaces, enter heavily secured buildings, and leave without a trace. His muscles still remembered that pattern, even though this body was not yet as strong as before.

Moreover, this time, he was not alone. Without the system, he might still have reached his goal, but it would have taken longer and carried greater risk.

With the system, everything became more precise. He descended the emergency stairs. Each time he approached a corner with a surveillance camera, the system provided him with the safest timing window to pass.

Finally, he arrived in front of the pharmacy room door. The door was secured with a simple electronic system.

Before he could act to analyze the fingerprints on the keypad, the system in his mind spoke first.

[Six-digit access code.]

[Highest probability combination has been calculated.]

Kieran typed the numbers without hesitation, and with a click, the door opened. He stepped inside and carefully closed it behind him. Without wasting time, he walked quickly along the rows of shelves, reading labels at a glance, then taking and storing the medicines.

He moved to a small locked cabinet. With the system’s assistance, the small lock opened silently. Everything he touched vanished instantly, entering his spatial space.

[Spatial volume used: 17%.]

He did not take everything. If too much went missing, the hospital would immediately realize a major theft. If only a portion, it could be considered a recording error or internal distribution issue.

A few minutes later, he stopped and exited the pharmacy the same way he had entered.

The woman fell silent for a moment.“Just a small scrape. I accidentally fell in the kitchen yesterday.”Kieran stared at her without blinking. That was not a scrape. It was a grip mark. An uneven bruise, like the imprint of pressing fingers. From the original owner’s memories of this body, he remembered that his father often came home drunk, frequently asked his wife for money, and if there was none, he would beat her.The original owner of this body might have been afraid of his father due to childhood trauma, but the current Kieran was not. He even hated the old man, not much different from how he hated his father in his life before transmigrating.“That old man did this?” he asked flatly. He did not say the word father. His mother flinched slightly at his tone, then exhaled softly.“It’s nothing. Don’t think about unnecessary things. Just focus on recovering.”She finally managed to gently pull her hand away, then adjusted her sleeve again and tried to return to the original topic

Kieran shifted his gaze away from the television screen a few seconds after the word suicide was clearly spoken by the news anchor. Without expression, he reached for the remote that the nurse had placed beside the hospital bed earlier and pressed the power button. The screen immediately went black, and the room returned to silence. All of that was indeed the past. Technically, it was no longer even him. However, feelings were not so easily severed. He did not want to know the details of the investigation broadcast on television because he knew it was all lies and the result of manipulation by his family.A light knock sounded at the door. A nurse entered while pushing a small trolley filled with food. The aroma of warm soup slowly spread through the room.“It’s time for dinner,” she said kindly.Kieran nodded slightly. He did not have much appetite, but this body needed nourishment if he wanted to recover quickly. After the nurse took the empty tray and left, the fatigue he had been

The room returned to silence after the door closed. Kieran remained lying down, staring blankly at the window with its curtains half open. His aunt sat not far from him, occasionally checking her phone, occasionally looking at him with a gaze that still did not fully believe he was awake. But Kieran’s thoughts were not there. He slowly closed his eyes, trying to “feel” the existence of the spatial space again. He needed a test. Something small at first and inconspicuous. The water bottle on the bedside table? Or the plastic spoon from the meal tray?He could not recklessly experiment with trivial items like that. What if, after testing one object, the spatial space required a long recovery time? Wouldn’t he just be wasting it?Kieran drew a slow breath.Besides the storage function, what mattered more was the ability to double an object’s value. That meant whatever he put inside, if it worked according to the system’s explanation, would become an asset. He did not like uncertainty, s

Not far from his bed, two women stood facing each other. Their appearance was simple, ordinary clothes that looked worn from long use, hair tied up without much care. They looked like most women one might meet at a market or a bus stop. However, the exhaustion on one of their faces was unmistakable. That woman, the mother of this body’s original owner, had fine lines that were too deep for her age. Her eyes were red and slightly swollen, as if she had cried too often over the past few days. The woman beside her, who was likely her sister, looked calmer, though the dark circles under her eyes showed that she, too, lacked sleep.Kieran watched them in silence for a few seconds. His chest felt tight, not from physical pain, but from feelings he could not ignore.“Mom…”His voice was hoarse, soft, almost like a breath. He could not hold back the sadness in his heart, after all, he had lost his original mother. And now he was calling someone “Mom.” Someone who could indeed be said to be hi
