The woman fell silent for a moment.
“Just a small scrape. I accidentally fell in the kitchen yesterday.”
Kieran stared at her without blinking. That was not a scrape. It was a grip mark. An uneven bruise, like the imprint of pressing fingers.
From the original owner’s memories of this body, he remembered that his father often came home drunk, frequently asked his wife for money, and if there was none, he would beat her.
The original owner of this body might have been afraid of his father due to childhood trauma, but the current Kieran was not. He even hated the old man, not much different from how he hated his father in his life before transmigrating.
“That old man did this?” he asked flatly. He did not say the word father.
His mother flinched slightly at his tone, then exhaled softly.
“It’s nothing. Don’t think about unnecessary things. Just focus on recovering.”
She finally managed to gently pull her hand away, then adjusted her sleeve again and tried to return to the original topic.
“Eat before it gets cold,” she said, forcing her voice back to normal.
Kieran picked up the bowl again. He ate slowly, but his mind was no longer on the taste of the soup.
If the hospital cost was nearly three thousand ASD, plus other unknown debts, and at home there was a violent drunk who might spend money faster than it could be earned…
Then the problem was not just about money.
It was about stability.
He looked at his mother sitting on the small chair, her head occasionally drooping as if about to fall asleep, yet still forcing herself to stay awake.
That old man might still be breathing in their house, but sooner or later, that position would change.
Kieran only finished half of the bowl. His movements were slow and measured. After the last few spoonfuls, he set the spoon down and placed the small bowl on the bedside table.
His mother, who had been watching him, immediately asked, “Why didn’t you finish it?”
“I’m full,” Kieran replied briefly.
The portion was not large. He pushed the bowl slightly closer to her.
“You should finish it.”
The woman quickly shook her head.
“I’ve already eaten.”
Kieran knew that wasn’t true. From her slightly chapped lips, the way her hand occasionally pressed against her stomach unconsciously, and the clear weakness on her face, she had not eaten since last night. Perhaps she had only had some water or cheap coffee before leaving for work.
But Kieran did not say that. He only said quietly, “It would be a waste if it’s thrown away. The nurse will bring lunch soon. It won’t get finished later.”
A simple and reasonable excuse.
His mother fell silent for a few seconds, looking at the bowl, then at Kieran again. Something had changed in her gaze, a mixture of surprise and being touched. It had been a long time since she felt warmth from her son; he had usually been cold and quiet toward her. Not because he hated her, but because of dissatisfaction. After all, she was not a good mother.
In the end, she gave in.
“All right,” she said softly as she moved closer and began eating the remaining soup. At first her movements were hesitant, then slightly quicker. Kieran pretended not to notice, giving her space so she would not feel awkward.
After the bowl was empty, Kieran spoke again. “You should rest for a while.”
She lifted her face.
“Rest?”
“Yes. Just lie down on the bed. I’m going out for a bit.”
Her expression immediately tensed. “Go out? Aren’t you not allowed yet?”
“The doctor said I need some light walking to check my actual physical condition,” Kieran answered calmly. “The nurse also mentioned yesterday that I might be allowed today.”
Hearing that it was the doctor’s instruction, she quickly stood up. “I’ll go with you.”
However, Kieran shook his head.
“A nurse will be monitoring me. They also need to write a report. If you come along, it’ll only make things complicated.”
He looked at her steadily.
“You’ve eaten. Now sleep. At least for an hour.”
His tone was not loud, but there was a firmness that had never been there before. She seemed hesitant, yet her exhaustion was clearly stronger. She did not think much about the change in her son’s personality.
“All right… but be careful and don’t be reckless,” she finally said. She wanted to say more. Especially every time she remembered how her son ended up in the hospital, she felt uneasy, afraid it might happen again.
But in the end, she said nothing further and simply agreed.
Kieran stepped out of the room. In the corridor, just as he had expected, the nurse who had come with the doctor yesterday was walking by while checking a clipboard.
She lifted her head when she saw him.
“You’re up? Where are you going?”
“Just taking a short walk,” Kieran replied.
The nurse looked at him for a few seconds, then gave a faint smile. “All right. Don’t go too far. If you feel dizzy or weak, tell me.”
Kieran nodded. His body felt lighter than yesterday. His steps were still slow, but steady. He walked down the corridor, took the elevator with another patient, then headed out toward the hospital’s small garden.
The morning air felt fresh. The sunlight was not too harsh yet, only a thin warmth brushing against his skin. Several other patients were sitting on garden benches, some accompanied by family, others alone.
Kieran chose a bench under a shady tree and sat down. From a distance, he looked like a teenager enjoying the morning sun after a long illness.
But his thoughts were far from that. He could not keep relying on small pieces of jewelry. He needed something with fast turnover, stable demand, and minimal suspicion.
He closed his eyes briefly.
“What should I do to earn a lot of money?” he asked the system inwardly.
A few seconds of silence passed, then the cold voice responded.
[Recommendation: Introduce consumable products with medical or health value.]
[Examples: herbal medicine, traditional remedies, or generic drugs.][Quality will increase significantly. Effectiveness will be higher than the original version.][Quality increase → increase in selling price.]Kieran slowly opened his eyes.
Health products were always in demand. Especially in poor districts, where people often chose cheaper treatments before going to a hospital. If he bought inexpensive remedies, improved their quality, then sold them as more effective products…
The risk was lower compared to large quantities of precious metals. The demand was also consistent.
Kieran’s eyes suddenly gleamed. Not from excessive excitement, but because he had finally found a clear direction.
His spatial space was not merely a tool for multiplying value. It could become a foundation.

Ron walked slightly ahead, his steps not as fast as usual. His shoulders looked stiff, and occasionally he glanced back, making sure Kieran was still following him.Kieran clearly noticed his hesitation, but he said nothing.Their steps turned into several narrow alleys, passing through streets that were beginning to grow quiet as school hours were nearing their end. After a few minutes, Ron finally stopped.“Here,” he said softly.Kieran shifted his gaze to the empty surroundings. There was no one. Just dull walls, some trash in the corner, and footprints that were difficult to tell whether they were still fresh or not.“This is the place?”Ron nodded in response, but he still didn't dare to look up.Kieran narrowed his eyes slightly, then asked again, “Where are they?”“Don’t know… maybe they’ve already left.”Ron’s tone sounded uncertain, more than that, there was also concealment in it.Kieran didn't know what the boy was hiding, but he remained silent for a few seconds. Riel looked at Kieran for a few seconds longer. That sentence made the corner of Riel’s jaw tighten slightly. He did not make a scene. He did not raise his hand or his voice. But he did not completely hide his emotions either, which were clearly visible in his gaze that had begun to turn cold.“You’d better not be playing around,” Riel said quietly. His tone was low, but there was a faint pressure woven into it.Several people in the room unconsciously held their breath. A tone like that was not something to be taken lightly. However, Kieran did not react as they expected. Instead, he tilted his head slightly, looked at Riel calmly, and asked back, “Didn’t you come here for something else?”“As far as I know, you were sent by your master to pick something up. So… what does that have to do with me?”His tone was flat, but sharp. Kieran’s gaze did not shift even slightly.“Unless…” he continued slowly, the corner of his lips lifting faintly, “you came here specifically for me.”The sent

Kieran didn't return to school. Instead, his steps turned away from the school area without hesitation. It was still far from dismissal time, and sitting idly in class was clearly not something he wanted to do right now.His destination was Black Spine Market. As he walked, his mind became active again, and he asked the system, “How many points did I get this time?”He didn't look around, his steps remained relaxed, as if he were simply wandering aimlessly. However, the system’s cold voice immediately appeared.[Side mission, elimination of Boss Lee has not been completed.]Kieran’s steps didn't stop, but his brows furrowed slightly.“Not completed?” he repeated. “Didn’t I already replace his position?”He slipped his hand into his hoodie pocket, his tone flat, but clearly disagreeing.[Host has indeed replaced the target’s position as gang leader. Marsellus chuckled softly, shaking his head slightly, as if he had just found something amusing.“Fine. Fifty.”The decision came just like that, without prolonged negotiation. Because he knew that if he pushed too far, he might lose this source, and that wasn't a smart choice. After all, he had already experienced Kieran’s results firsthand.“As a sign of commitment,” Marsellus continued, taking out a black card from his suit. He placed it on the table, then slid it toward Kieran.“Consider this an advance for the first batch.”Kieran glanced at the card briefly before taking it, turning it once between his fingers, then putting it away without comment. There was no thanks or surprised expression, as if it was something normal for him.And that, instead, made Marsellus even more certain of something. The agreement was reached, and the conversation shifted.“Boss Lee will be released in a few days,” Marsellus said lightly. He glanced at Kieran briefly, his gaze flat and hard to read.

Marsellus didn't answer immediately. His gaze met Kieran’s, and he remained silent for a few seconds longer. Not out of hesitation, but consideration. Then, a faint smile curved his lips. Not a friendly smile, let alone as free as before. His voice remained as smooth as ever, but clearly more alive than before as he praised Kieran, saying, “A good question.”He stepped forward, causing the four people who had been blocking him to unconsciously tense and instinctively want to block him again as he faced Kieran directly. After all, Kieran was their new boss, so they treated him the same way they had been trained under Boss Lee, protecting him.But they didn't dare stop Marsellus, who held a higher position than Boss Lee.Marsellus stopped not far from Kieran.“If I say I’m here as the former boss, will you really have them throw me out?”His gaze locked onto Kieran. Clearly, it wasn't an ordinary question, but neither was it a test like before. It could be said he asked it deliberately.

Marsellus sat in a quiet, tightly sealed private room. The walls were lined with dark wooden panels, and the table in the middle was neatly arranged with several documents and antique catalogs that had yet to be discussed. However, the seat across from him was empty. It had been nearly half an hour past the agreed time, yet there was still no sign of the other party’s arrival.Marsellus closed his phone screen after the call with Kieran ended. He gave a faint smile, not a friendly one, but one that was hard to read.“It seems today my problem revolves around ‘waiting’,” he murmured softly. His bodyguard and aide, a well-dressed man standing not far behind him, remained silent.Marsellus adjusted his sleeve slightly, then said casually, “We’re going to the base now.”“Yes, sir.”Without waiting any longer, Marsellus stood up and walked out of the private room. But after only a few steps into the corridor, someone hurriedly approached.A woman in formal attire, known to be the secretary
