It was the voice of Adrian chanting in his head that he had to shove the echoes away and concentrate on what befall him.
He ventured to his room and didn't pay attention to his siblings who curiously poured questions on him. Everything would soon be over if he remains calm and doesn't let way for his fears to take control.
Two weeks passed with no trace of the missing students until another news broke out. It was weekend and Alex was having dinner with his family when his stepfather switched on the TV as he was fond of news. As soon as he switched on the news, the headlines popped up and it read that two students were killed brutally and buried in a shallow grave.
The water he had in his mouth almost choked him as he coughed out. All eyes on the table diverted to him. His parents were aware that two police officers visited two weeks ago but didn't mind as they knew he was innocent.
He became unease where he sat that his anxious feet wanted to lead him away from the dinning but it would look quite absurd.
"Oh my God, how could humans be so evil!" His mother began and the fork he intended to carry for his noodles fell from his grip. His family always commented on news like this and so he needed not to get infuriated by their actions because more comments were still loading.
He grimanced and collected it from the ground.
"I won't be surprised if it's one of their peers" valery interjected in a loud whisper that made Alex bang his leg mistakenly on the table.
"Are you okay?" His stepfather asked and he nodded with a frown at him. It was best they didn't ask him anything as he had made up his mind that they never cared.
"I hope the culprit gets caught and tortured to death!" Cherish added shaking her head, irritated by the footage which was shown on the screen while Alex had his heart in his mouth.
Every comments made by them made him sink as he was void of thoughts and could only see darkness lurking in to bury him.
"They found the girl!" His mother affirmed and Alex shoved his face to the screen, he could see the press surrounding this girl and bashing her with questions but she was too scared to move as her parents send them away. He placed himself in her shoes wondering if his parents would ever support him like they did for her.
They commented that she was a survival and had been missing for over two weeks only to find her in the slum which was a distance away, she was frighten by anything that touch her as the only words that came out her lips was;
"Leave me alone, please, don't touch me"
A sad smile lingered around his lips on sighting her, his eyes travelled to her arm, she had a cut over there and had bruises too that needed to be treated before it gets infected.
The comments received was that she was assault and almost raped but managed to escape and speculations had it that perhaps she had killed those guys in defense or had ran away from their clutches but someone else murdered them or;
Her rapist were different people entirely while these two boys who were killed brutally managed to fall victim of a serial killer. Either way, the truth couldn't be hidden forever and soon, the public would be aware of that fact.
The students murdered were children of conglomerates who would do anything to fish out the culprit and when they do, they would have that person killed without even facing the law.
Where have you been" he murmured to himself as he shoved his gaze away from the screen, stood up and attempted to leave the dinning table. However he stopped by his mother who could see that he haven't touch a meal.
"I lost my appetite" he posed and stormed away, they didn't hinder him from leaving neither find anything strange in the behavior he was displaying lately.
Locking himself up wouldn't help but he needed a quiet place, soon the truth would be out, then what would he do? His parents would never support him let along fight for him.
The only option he had right that moment was either to run to safety because the parents of those two boys wouldn't want to hear his side of his story.
He was glad Natalie was alive, perhaps she was going to defend him and tell the truth of what happened that night of their death. It was all an act of defense, not for him but for her. Alex yearn to call Natalie on the cell phone but it wouldn't be the right as she would still be distressed over that horrible night.
If the truth ever comes out, she was going to serve as the witness, however, the victims family was his greatest fear, they wouldn't spare him even when the truth is told. That though along sent cold chill down his spine that he fell sick immediately. He might drop dead as he was traumatic over the whole crisises that was disturbing definitely because he was involved in it.
"What do I do?" He panicked and paced to and fro. While in that state, he felt blood drooling from his nose, he was bleeding and hastily, he rushed the bathroom to wash the stain.
He must have bleed due to the tension he had all over his body, no one could relate to how he fell and he wished he was teleported somewhere away or possibly if the earth could open up and swallow him.
Alex stared at himself in the mirror as he used a face towel to dry his wet face, his heart cries out for a different world entirely where he could be free and have people fall under him. He heaved a sigh and walked out of the bathroom to reason his life but how could he when he was the murder!
