That evening, the Harper estate felt unusually tense as words had finally reached the older Harpers that Patrick wasn’t suspended and he wasn’t demoted either.

He was outright fired and barred from stepping onto Titan Global property again.

Victoria arrived at the mansion in a state of barely controlled panic. Tara was with her, pacing the hallway while seriously clutching her purse.

“I can’t believe this,” Victoria muttered as they walked toward the dining hall. “Patrick may not be perfect, but firing him without warning? That’s excessive.”

“Titan Global doesn’t fire people like that,” Tara said sharply. “Not unless something big happened. Someone with real power had to be behind it.”

Victoria paused, lowering her voice. “Do you think it was Emma?”

Tara scoffed. “Emma doesn’t have that kind of influence. She can’t even control her own department, she’s just a partner by luck. She’s not the reason.”

Victoria nodded, though the answer didn’t reassure her. “Then who?”

  • CHAPTER FIFTY ONE

Patrick’s firing spread through the Harper circle faster than wildfire. By the next morning, the whispers had grown into full conversations, and every relative had something to say about it, even if none of them knew the truth behind what had happened.Emma came downstairs early, ready to leave for work, when she found Victoria sitting in the living room with Tara beside her. They looked oddly prepared, almost as if they waiting for her.“Emma, dear,” Victoria said with a tight smile. “We need to have a little chat.”Emma blinked, caught off guard. “About what?”Tara crossed her legs in an overly confident manner. “About Patrick. You’ve heard, right? Titan Global fired him yesterday completely out of nowhere.”Emma froze for a second. She hadn’t heard, actually. “What? Fired him? Why?”Victoria sighed dramatically. “We were hoping you could tell us. You’ve been getting very close to Titan Global recently, haven’t you?”Emma’s brows drew together. “Close? I only met with them for the p

  • CHAPTER FIFTY

Patrick sat slouched on the edge of the sofa, a half-empty bottle of whiskey clutched loosely in one hand. He poured another glass, and downed it in one quick gulp. The sting burned through his throat and offered only a temporary escape from the depressing feeling that had been building all day.His eyes wandered across the room, landing on the scattered paperwork from Titan Global’s latest project. He shoved it aside angrily. Nothing mattered anymore because he had been fired and it hadn’t just been any firing, it had been humiliating. A quiet, efficient dismissal, the kind that left no room for negotiation, no room for favors, and no room for appeals. The doorbell rang. Patrick frowned and muttered under his breath, taking another drink before dragging himself to the door.“Tara,” he said flatly as he opened it. His hair was disheveled, and his shirt was wrinkled. He hadn’t bothered to clean up. His eyes were slightly bloodshot, and there was a tense line in his jawTara stepped ins

Nina knocked lightly on the office door before entering. Liam had asked to see her privately, which was unusual. She stepped in quietly, unsure whether she should sit or wait for instruction. Liam was seated behind his desk, his posture relaxed but alert. He didn’t look up at first, focusing on a report on his laptop, but when he finally raised his eyes, they were calm, and unreadable.“Sit,” he said. His voice was quiet, but commanding without being loud.Nina obeyed immediately, folding her hands in her lap. “Sir, you requested this meeting?”“Yes,” Liam replied simply. He leaned back slightly, steepling his fingers on the desk. “Tell me about Patrick Drew.”It took her a moment to process the question. “Patrick?” she repeated. “He… manages some financial reports and assists with data entry and auditing.”Liam’s gaze didn’t waver. “Is that all?”Nina hesitated. “Well, he’s… not exceptional. He should technically still be an intern, but he’s here because of his father. His father ha

  • CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT

Liam sat in the bedroom with the phone in hand, still digesting the events of the last call. Ethan’s voice had sounded tense, nervous, and almost fearful, but Liam knew he hadn’t orchestrated anything, not a single thing, and yet, the attack on Ethan had happened. His brow furrowed as he tried to piece together the scenario. Who would attack Ethan? Why now? And why involve Emma, even indirectly? The questions circled in his mind, refusing to calm down. Each possibility opened a dozen more, but none of them matched the facts. He didn’t act recklessly; he didn’t make threats; and he didn’t manipulate people into harming others. He placed the phone down gently and leaned back, his hands clasped over his knees. He considered everyone who might have had motive, business rivals, enemies from the past, anyone who might benefit from chaos in Emma’s life. Nothing added up perfectly. He hadn’t missed anything, and yet, something was off.The sound of the door opening pulled him from his thought

  • CHAPTER FORTY SEVEN

Lunch at the Harper mansion was as usual. Always noisy and filled with mild chaos. Dishes clicked as they served, chairs scraped when they moved, and the family talked over one another as if it was a competition. Liam sat quietly in his spot, eating without reacting to any of the side glances and whispers thrown in his direction.Victoria sighed loudly at one point. “At least today is peaceful. No strange men showing up, no police cars, and no drama, maybe the universe is finally calming down for us.”Tara scoffed. “Calming down? Please. The only reason we’re even getting back on our feet is because of my boyfriend, Patrick. Unlike some people in this house, he actually has status.”Emma shot her cousin a warning look, but Tara ignored it completely.“Oh, by the way,” Tara said, flipping her hair over her shoulder, “Patrick works at Titan Global. He’s at the manager level, a very important position. He deals with real money, and real power. Not like…” She waved her spoon lazily at Lia
