HOW DID YOU DO IT REUBEN

Now the truth is out

As it had become clear that the manager was playing tricks with the minds of all of them.

He had lied to them about his job and that made all of them congratulate him.

Grandma was angry at the manager.

She addressed by his name and asked him to apologize.

“ Now you Ethan, how could you that here, you lied to everyone here including myself about your job. You are trying to play with our minds and make fools out of us” Grandma burst out at the manager.

The manager's face darkened as he heard addressing him by his name.

He knew all was lost.

Now they had stopped addressing him by ‘ manager’ and he's now been called by his name.

He knew he had lost his pride and ego .

However, he was more worried when he understood the grave impact on what he had done.

He stood quietly and watched Grandma during her outburst.

“ It's better you apologize to everyone here Ethan, or you will find yourself incurring the same wrath Reuben has incurred from all of us here. ” one of the guests forewarned.

The manager was ashamed.

A minute ago he was the manager of a company and was highly respected by everyone.

The next moment he is being ridiculed by the same people who respected him because he had lost his job.

He shook his head in pity for himself.

“ It is better to apologize to the manager… erm… I mean Mr Ethan” Louisa's cousin said in a mocking tone.

Everyone seemed to agree with them.

Ethan flashed a look at Reuben who was smiling mischievously at him. He cursed him under his breath.

He flashed a quick glance at Grandma and saw she was visibly angry.

He realized all odds were against him now.

All eyes were on him.

No one was smiling at him again except for Reuben whose smile was more of mockery than sympathy.

He turned to Grandma and began speaking

“ I am very sorry for lying to all of you about my job now. It was very hard for me to accept that I am no longer the manager of the company.

I knew I had lost everything and I was not ready to let you all know at the moment and that was why I lied to you all.

I'm very sorry everyone. I apologize.

The manger with his head bowed

“ You better go on your knees," a voice from the guests suggested.

“ Shit" he cursed in his head.

He looked at Grandma and she seemed to be in support of whoever's suggestion it was.

He shamefully went on his knees and repeated the words of apology

“ I'm sorry everyone, please forgive me..

I seek your forgiveness Grandma. ” Grandma nodded her head and signaled him to stand.

“ Apology accepted, ” Grandma said as the manager retreated from his kneeling position .

Reuben let out a little laugh as the manager stood up.

Everyone turned their gazes and attention to him.

“ A while ago you were mocking me that I am a loser, now you judge between us. Who is the real loser now? ” Reuben mocked the manager.

“ How did you do it huh? How did you do? ” the manager asked Reuben, ignoring his mockery.

Reuben at once understood the question but pretended he did not.

“How did I do what? ” Reuben asked back

“ You know what I am talking about Reuben . A whole ago you threatened me I was going to lose my job and truly I did.

Even when I lied, you knew the truth and the exact words the caller said. How did you do it?” the manager explained

“ Oh that? I did not do anything, I did not cause it. You did it all, you caused it all by yourself. I just knew you were not going to be retained. You caused it. '' Reuben replied .

The manager raised an eyebrow

“ How did I cause it? Why will I cause myself to lose my job? " The manager further enquired from Reuben.

Reuben smiled and grinned loudly.

“ Now he is humble enough to talk to me." He thought to himself.

The manager looked teary eyed. He knew he had lost everything. His fame, his position, his pride, his ego and worst of it all his respect.

Reuben looked around, all eyes were on them. Everyone was looking at them. Even Grandma.

He spoke in response to the manager's question.

“ The owners of the company found out about all your doings, they found out about you over invoicing of budgets.

Your underbid of contracts.

Your illegal expenditure in the accounts of the company.

Your offshore account that you send your illegal monies to.

Your signature forgery and all contracts you received without permissions.

Your attitude towards work and all the things you have been doing away from light

All your efforts to get the company to the trenches have been found out” Reuben replied with a smile.

The manager frowned suddenly

Shock was written all over his face.

He opened his mouth in shock.

He could not utter a word.

“ And oh, before I forget , your offshore account has been blocked and all the money has been returned back to the company.

All your property has been seized so as we talk now, you have nothing. ” Reuben said.

The manager began shaking.

He went on his knees, tears unconsciously began dropping from his eyes .

He had tried very much to keep his dealings very safe and as a secret. Now that they've found out. He lost everything.

The manager sat on the bare floor with his eyes sore red. He looked at Reuben who had just busted him and revealed all his secrets.

“ Who on earth is this guy? ”. He thought to himself

All what Reuben said were his grave secrets and no one knew about them. Only himself.

He wondered how Reuben came to know about all these information

Reuben felt pity for the manager but did not show.

He knew he had just busted him and he was now more than a pauper.

‘ Serves him right’ he muttered silently

All the guests were surprised by Reuben's revelation.

The actions from the manager confirmed it all..

They began to wonder who Reuben really was.

How did he come to know of all these if he was but only a delivery man and a pauper as they all regarded him.

A poor son in law who had just lost his job and family but knows grave secrets of his superior and unfolds them as though they are his.
