CHAPTER 6

REUBEN IN TROUBLE

Reuben hissed and looked around.

Something caught his attention.

He noticed someone entering the room.

He looked again.

Lo and behold, it was the man who was with Louisa at the hotel

The man entered the room and went to stand beside Louisa.

Reuben was boiling with anger. Hatred grew in his heàrt for the pair.

He pointed to the man.

“ And if you all care to know, that is the man she was cheating on me with. In a hotel room! ” Reuben said, looking at Grandma,   and pointing at the man

Grandma's eye widened

The man looked  at Louisa  in surprise

Everyone in the room was gazing at the pair.

Some people had their mouths agape in shock.

Louisa's cousin had a smile playing on the corners of her mouth.

“ Is it true Louisa? ” Grandma asked with a shaky voice

“ No grandma, it's a lie,” Louisa replied trembling.

“ What is going on here? The man asked Louisa, with a surprised look

“ Reuben told everyone here that I am cheating on him… with you! ” Louisa explained.

The man understood the whole issue at once. The whole issue was about what transpired in the hotel a day before.

His face turned pale.

He flashed Reuben an angry stare.

He was bored of him for revealing his secrets.

“ No wait it's a lie ” the man exclaimed feigning ignorance.

“ What's your name Mister? ”Grandma asked the man.

“ I'm Williams ma'am ” he replied

“ Can you explain to me what is being said now. What is your relationship with my granddaughter ” Grandma asked, looking straight into Williams' face.

“ Well ma'am, I'm a businessman and I was about to go into business with Louisa's company. She came to my hotel room to deliver some important documents. Nothing more” Williams replied with a serious face.

The audience in the room stared at him in utter disbelief.

Louisa heaved a  sigh and hit her hand on her forehead silently. She was  trying toobury the whole scene of  being seen in a hotel   room  with Williams but it had now been foiled  by Williams himself

Williams was a prospective client for Louisa's company. He was about to go into a deal to invest thousands of dollars into the company.

Louisa has to go deliver the documents to him in his hotel room.

Williams deliberately made such arrangements so he could take advantage of an unsuspecting Louisa.

Truly , Louisa went to the hotel to deliver the documents to him. He tried to seduce Louisa into making love with him.

Prior to this, he had ordered a pack of condoms from Reuben's company of which Reuben was supposed to deliver at that particular time.

His plans to get to seduce Louisa to get her in bed were halfway through when Reuben knocked on the door. Timely and ultimately interrupting him and subsequently aborting his mission.

That was the reason why he hated Reuben: for disrupting his well laid up plan.

“ If you claim she's only a business partner, how did the cheating appear” Louisa's cousin enquired from Williams

“ Well, we were on the verge of finalizing everything when a knock came on the door.

It was him. I opened the door with Louisa behind me. The moment he saw that attacked me but I was quick enough to dodge him and he got angry.

I later filed a complaint against him at his workplace. I bet that is the reason he is saying all this lies about me and Louisa to save himself and disgrace us.``

Williams explained with all seriousness on his face..

Everyone seemed to understand and agree with his explanation.

“ Do you have any evidence to back your claims? ” Grandma asked.

“ Yes, I sent a complaint to the delivery company he works with. Let me call their…. ” Williams paused as he caught sight of the manager of the delivery company.

His face beamed with a huge smile.

“ Yes! His manager is here. ” he said pointing to the manager

“ Mr manager can you please cross check his delivery records of late. If he has no reports or complaints about his work” Williams pleaded with the manager.

The manager, determined to revenge on Ryan and disgrace him, quickly took out his tablet and began pressing.

After a few seconds, he spoke.

“ His records have been very bad here. The last time he fought a client at a hotel and he was reported. He does not comply with any of the rules lately. And of course today, he is causing a nuisance at a birthday party " The manager stated with a cold grin.

Reuben stared at the manager in utter disbelief. He wanted to prove him guilty and in so doing he's lying to everyone.

Seeing no one believes him now,he kept his cool.

Williams opened his arms in delight.

He knew he had pinned Reuben to the wall and there was no way he was going to defend himself.

“ So you see, this young man here… Reuben… .yes… . Reuben, he lied to you all about me and about your granddaughter ma'am. He's only trying to cause nuisance.

My apologies for any inconveniences this might have caused you. ” William said facing Grandma

Everyone looked convinced that Reuben had told a lie to grandma and each one of them.

Louisa was beaming with smiles as she knew she had been saved and justified.

Furthermore, her cousins would have no reason to mock her. Not anymore

The manager was grinning coldly for getting a well deserved revenge on Reuben courtesy Williams.

Williams was quite happy that had been able to stain Reuben's whites in front of everyone.

He gave out a wicked faint laugh raising an eyebrow at Reuben as if to say ‘ who won in the end’ .

Reuben on the other hand knew he had been screwed. There was no way to defend himself. All doors had been closed on him

All odds were against him. Nobody was going to listen to him talk more of believing him.

He knew Williams had framed him up but there was nothing he could do as all negatives were on him.

Grandma was looking at him disdainfully.

All the guards he had defeated were happy and the family seems to have connived against him.

He stood there boiling with anger
