The Director ordered Amero to get me a Prefect who would get me a uniform and show me around.

He was to return to the office after calling an emergency meeting with the Council.

We left the Director’s office and stood at the shores of a receding sea of people.

“Wish!” called out Amero.

A short girl who was walking in the opposite direction looked back. She run-walked towards us. Her eyes were seductively low. Her nose was small and compact. It was perfectly placed above a pair of full glossy lips. Her breasts were round and generous to her small yet chubby form. The long hills that were her hips and thighs filled out her pants to the brim. The badge on her shirt was green. Her pendant had two interlinking hexagons, just like Tanaka’s.

“Good afternoon Deputy.” she said.

Her intonation was light and graceful.

Amero pushed me forward. Something that I noticed that he was in the habit off.

I caught a whiff of her scent. It was sweet and warm, like the aroma of a bakery.

“This is David. He’s a new student, get him a uniform and show him where he’ll be sleeping.”

“Yes sir.”

Amero entered the Director’s office and banged the door shut.

“My name is Wish”, she said, “I’m the Head Prefect for girls at the Academy.”

“David”, I said, “And I don’t know what the hell is going on.”

She giggled,

“I’d be afraid of you if you did, come on.”

We exited the foyer through the left. As we walked down the corridor, I peeked into the four classrooms to my right. All of them were packed with students attentively listening to the teachers upfront and taking notes.

The teachers, I realized, had bronze badges but no pendants. The last classroom on the block however was different. Instead of desks and chairs, it had rows of long white tables and tall stools. It reminded me of the lab from my high school where we did science lessons. On the tables in front of the students were large, black rat-like corpses on silver trays. The students picked up the tiny blades next to the trays as they listened to the teacher upfront who was pointing at different parts of a diagram on the whiteboard.

We ascended a flight of stairs after the science lab. Finally, we arrived outside a door on the second floor. It was placed in between the four classrooms, serving as the third door on the corridor. We entered after knocking. An elderly lady with pins in her mouth was measuring a long brown cloth that hung from a mannequin with a female anatomy.

“Good afternoon Ms. Luceal.” said Wish.

“Hey Wish.”

She looked at me.

“Stray huh.” she said.

She walked over to a large closet that covered the entire left side of the room. She opened it. It was tightly packed, nearly brimming, with coats, shirts, and pants in groups of varying sizes.

“He is?” inquired Wish as she analyzed me, “How’d you know?”

“I can smell the confusion off of him.”

I wasn’t quite offended by her words. She was right. Even though I was beginning to digest the reality of the Association’s existence, I was still trying to mull over the taste of the revelation.

She handed me the clothes then proceeded to a large metal trunk on the right side of the room. I noticed through the wall length mirror that there was a lesson in progress in the next room. Upfront was voluptuous yet elderly south American woman with long white hair and eyebrows of the same colour.

“Here.”

Ms. Luceal handed me a pair of boots. I noticed that her badge was also bronze. She returned to her work.

“Thank you ma’am.” said Wish.

We left the room.

“Sure thing. Fix your face kid, the older students don’t take kindly to Strays.” called out Ms. Luceal.

As we ascended the stairs to the third floor, Wish said,

“Don’t let Ms. Luceal scare you. The Academy has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to bullying. Us prefects will enforce that policy, strictly. So if anyone tries to mess with you, you look for me.”

We climbed two more flights of stairs. The second and third floor were identical to the first. On the fourth floor, opposite the floor-to-ceiling windows, were three doors.

“These are the boys’ dormitories and the showers”, said Wish, “On the top floor are the girls’ dorms.”

She opened the first door.

“This is where all the boys bunk, but since you’re a first year you’ll be sleeping here.”

The large room was divided into four by walls with a doorless entrances. Long rows of bunkbeds lined each side.

On the bottom bunk of one of the beds to the left were two figures hunched over something that emitted a strong colorful light. The two didn’t even notice Wish and I approaching them until we arrived at the foot of the bed.

“Use Sklerokenisis man!”

“Chill bro, I got this.”

The one playing what looked like a fantasy videogame, a lanky guy with thick curly hair and yellow skin immediately shut the laptop.

“Really guys? What did I say about playing games after lunchtime.”

“It’s already lesson time? Did you hear the bell?”

Curly hair asked was a few shades lighter than me in complexion. He had a neat fade cut and a chin beard.

“Hmm, can’t say I did.”

“Aren’t you two in charge of ringing the bell this week?” asked Wish.

“Oh yeah…”

“Anyway, this is David.”

“Sup man.” said curly hair.

“Yo.” said chin beard.

“Wassup.”

“David, this is”, Wish pointed at curly hair, “Daniel. And that’s Dwayne. They’re also first years”

“Finally, someone to add to the group.” said Daniel.

“Why did it have to be another guy though…”

“Show him around. I’ve got assignments I need to get to. I don’t want to catch you playing games during lesson time. The deal was you play in the morning and late at night. don’t make me confiscate it, you know you’re not supposed to have it anyway.”

“Yes ma’am.” they said in unison.

Wish left the dorms.

I looked at my cracked phone screen. The battery was almost out and there was no signal whatsoever.

“You’re lucky Wish brought you here. If it was another Prefect they would’ve taken that away."

I changed into my uniform.

When he cleared his plate and reached for a napkin to wipe his mouth, King Fenn felt some sense of normalcy return to his mind. Of course, the unease he was feeling prior to the banquet wasn't caused by the execution.Been through so many of those I actually feel sleepy when I see one of these days...But the reason for the execution is what had been gnawing at him since the terrorists were caught the previous night. He had barely gotten a wink of sleep as he thought about it. It was the whole reason why he called for the meeting. He grabbed his chalice and took a swig of the honey and mint wine that was reserved for such occasions.Better than Golden Wine if you ask me.It complemented the pleasant aftertaste of the glazed turkey and Miyak broth that he had just devoured.“My king…”That was Tarrus. He was seated to Fenn's left, at one of the corners of the lengthy upper-level table. All the while through the post-execution feast, he couldn't stop remembering what had happened to Kry

After the gore fest, there was a banquet. As the Governors and their children left the Trial Quad, Ilonah let her body move for her but her mind was far from the current situation. They crossed the grassy plains by a gold paved path bejeweled with red and green rubies that spelt out the prophecies and the Laws from the Artkium. When they entered the Castles reception area, Ilonah caught sight of something she had forgotten she needed to take a copy off. It was nailed to the extreme right wall behind a pane of glass. She reduced her stride, forcing the servants to also fall behind in a light trot. I dont feel any Twanfe laced to it…i just need to make sure no one sees me.After falling away from the rest of the group, she decided to stop in her tracks. She watched the group disappear behind the corner that led to the Kings Banquet hall. She realized that she was holding her breath this entire time. She turned her head,“Take this thing off of me.”The servants looked at eachother.“D

She didn't look at him directly, but she could feel her father's signature piercing gaze of disapproval forcing itself into the side of her head. From the extreme left of the platform rose Tarrus Gent, the Governor of Aguaron. He was a small man with a full head of shiny grey hair. He approached the podium and whispered projection before he made the introductory proceedings.“Welcome, my fellow Ozmathians.” he began,Ilonah never liked Governor Gent. He was as small and as slimy as a swamp Slimikus. He had this permanent smile and a lazy gaze that made it feel like he was constantly thinking about how much better he was than everyone else. She was certain that he was up to no good; she didn't doubt the rumours. It was one of the few things that she actually agreed on with her father. She cast a glance towards the King. Even Fenn didn’t seem interested in Gent’s company. But that observation was nullified by the fact that Tarrus was basically the most powerful Ozamthian after the king.

The carriage rolled to a stop as it arrived at the capital's southeastern gate.Ilonah was woken up by the sound of salutations from the Holy Guard soldiers posted at both flanks of the giant golden entrance. But nationwide announcements that covered the entire Ozmath made sure that even the fifth Inka in Fii knew that all the important Ozmath were going to be present in the capital on the third sun cycle of the eigth full cycle of the 2025th completion.Merchants held up their goods energetically as they noticed the governor’s sigil on Ilonah’s carriage. They probably think its father in here right now…She cracked open the window to just give a teaser of her face. • CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO

When she woke up, the first thing that Ilonah decided to take care of was the odour radiating off of her. She rose from the green-stained carpet and pushed past the double doors of the closet. As expected, Afina was already going to work on her somewhat messy bedroom. “Morning, Priestess,” said the petite slave while bowing slightly.Ilonah had stopped responding to Afina and the other domestics at the estate years ago. She had tried to tell them several times that they didn't have to greet her every single time they ran into each other (which was nearly every 30 ticks). It made her feel awkward to be greeted and borderline revered by Ozmathians that looked exactly like she did.“I spilt some juice in the closet,” said Ilonah as she remembered the stain from the liquified crystal. She reached for her towels and made her way to the bath.“Let me take care of that, my esteemed priestess.”She rolled her eyes as she entered the crystalline room and shut the door behind her.I wonder wh

  • CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE

Ilonah’s father scanned her from top to bottom.“Hmmmm, coming from somewhere?”She cleared her throat as she walked over to her partially open closet and threw in the dirty boots. She shut the mirrored doors, looking at her father’s amused yet angry expression through the former.“I had gone for a walk in the vineyard Father,” she said while looking more at herself than at her father. He bent down, breathing heavily from effort as he did so. He pinched a piece of dirt from her carpet.“Hmmm,” he said as he brought the dirt closer to his eyes and analysed it.“This doesn’t look like the sandy soils that belong to my vineyard…”Shit…Ilonah shut her eyes and looked down.“I'm sorry, Father,” she said.“Sorry for being caught or sorry for going to Gen and mixing with the lower Inka?”She pondered on that question longer than necessary. She knew it was coming. Since she was a kid, her father always used to ask her what she was truly sorry for every time she apologised. He never laid his
