Eleanor watched the car disappear into the night. Her shoulders sagged with exhaustion.

“ Didn't you say he was alone?” A masculine voice rang out, startling her.

She turned to face the owner of the voice, her head dipped into a bow.

A blow landed across her face. Her weight falling backwards as she landed on the rumpy floor. She vomited blood, her face pale as white sheet.

The figure lowered to meet her height, “ next time, give an accurate information” he gritted out, his voice menacingly low.

Eleanor bowed with a nod as she avoided eye contact.

“ He is with the merchant, should we pursue?” One of the men asked the figure, a layer of fear and doubt hidden beneath his question.

Everyone kept mute, pin drop silence consuming all of them. A smile crept to Caedmon’s face. there was no need!

His eyes flashed with greed, sooner or later, he was going to get his hands on that treasure.

He glanced at the woman on the floor with disdain, “spread the news. Lady Lila and Freya had gone missing” he dropped and walked away, sliding into his limousine and drove off, following after the black car.

Eleanor clenched her fist. Her nails digging into her palms. She forced her weak body up, her gaze fixed on the two ladies cradled together.

“ Bundle them into the dungeon”she ordered, her gaze lingering on Lila , a flash of recognition.

“ Yes!” The men echoed and grabbed onto the ladies, dragging them into a chopper, an old early 80’s transportation system.

Lila let out muffled screams, tears streaming down her cheeks as she fought to keep her body covered.

A slap landed on her cheek, “ fucking slut, behave!” One of the men barked at her. His voice like a dangerous hum reverberated through her. Her limbs went weak, hopelessness seeping into her as she let herself be dragged into the chopper.

Eleanor followed behind, her shoes echoed against the gravel-like floor.

Meanwhile, back at the bar. Allistair sat down on a round sofa in the VIP quarter, his eyes resting on the crowd of people that danced to the deafening bar music.

“ We need to leave” he said for the umpteenth time, shaking his legs frantically.

Kieran smirked, “ you protected me from Tyron’s men. You can't possibly be scared of a little fight, huh?”

“ Tyron's men had no guns” he deadpanned making Kieran let out an ‘oh’

“ Do you think …they would stop if I manage to get hold of anything this key unlocks?”

“ No” Kieran answered, twirling his wine glass, his gaze fixed on Allistair’s worried face.

“Power remains in the hands of the most powerful” Kieran pressed out, his gaze distant, almost like he was thinking.

“ The rich are targeted more than the poor. Whatever it unlocks would give you power and more trouble” he added.

Allistair sighed, his brows slightly gathered as he downed a glass of whiskey. The bitter taste quenching the uneasiness that arose within him.

He flashed Kieran a quick suspicious glance, why was he helping him? It couldn't just be because of his uncle right ? Maybe he also had interest in whatever this thing held.

“ Ah, here you are” a masculine voice came through, melancholic and frightening.

Familiar!

Allistair's thoughts twirled back to the same day his parents had disappeared. He had heard such rich, melancholic voice.

“Hand over the piece” the voice had demanded.

“ It's not yours to claim. Leave” Astharoth said, banging his iron staff on the ground.

The rich voice erupted with a throaty laughter, “ you are just a pawn who discovered something amazing with a dead fellow. Be good and hand over the key to the safe”

“ Allistair…Alistair!” Kieran called out.

Allistair sat up, his eyes wide as he was brought back to reality.

“ Meet Caedmon. My fellow merchant” Kieran pressed with a smile.

Allistair forced a smile, his lashes fluttering with suspicion. Caedmon wore a black senate trouser with a long jacket that ran to his knees. His face was scarred. The line running from his forehead down to his ear.

He had a dark hair, his eyes terrifying dark with a pale lips but one thing was clear, he was absurdly handsome.

He nodded towards him, unease settling in the pit of his stomach. Just how bad could things get? He had recently been exposed to more people than he had met his entire life.

Kieran's gaze fell on Allistair’s throat. It pulsed with fear.

“ We need your help getting into Aufrigad. Something of importance in there” Keiran dropped, not interested in beating around the bush.

Caedmon smiled, “ nothing good comes free merchant”

“ How can we trust you won't betray us?” Allistair asked, his brows gathered.

“ You don't”

“ You don't”

The two dropped at the same time, frustrating him.

“ how much to help him?” Keiran asked, relaxing a bit as he awaited Caedmon’s price with interest.

Caedmon smirked, “ five hundred bitcoins” he dropped, his expression serious.

A smirk slowly crept to Kieran's lips at the amount. As expected of Caedmon.

Allistair's gaze trembled, “ bit…bitcoin??” He asked, his voice cracking from the amount.

If he had that much money, he would hand over the damn key to whoever needs it and spend his days eating in the embrace of beautiful, curvy women!

Why would he need to know what the key hid?

“ I don't…I don't have that much” he said, flashing Keiran a pleading gaze.

“ I could help” Keiran chirped in, a smirk on his face.

Allistair’s gaze fell on him, his ears perked up with interest.

“ But nothing good comes free” Keiran added, earning a small chuckle from Caedmon.

“ I don't have money” Allistair said through gritted teeth. “ You owe me, you have to help me”

Keiran shook his head, “ Tyron's men would have only dubbed me off some cash.Nothing compared to this”

Allistair lowered his gaze. Indeed, Tyron's men didn't want to kill him, they just wanted to defraud him of some money which he happened to stop. Five hundred bitcoins was a lo

t of money, so much money.

“ Fine” he gritted out, “ what do you want?”

“ Sleep with me”

Allistair froze.

Allistair kept his gaze fixated on Lila. She was trembling and for a split second, he felt it was a pretence. A kind of pretence that has become part of her. But….it was Lila. She might actually be doing it all for Freya. He let out and exasperated sigh. A kind that found it difficult to understand or let go.He stared at her and started to analyse all over again. She had control over the shadow guards but she had ran when when they were pursued at the factory. “ The shadow guards, how much do you control?” He asked and she bit her lips. She adjusted, probably from being sore and lying on one position. “ I ..control very few. The shadow guards…the ones that attacked us at the factory. I..I swear I know nothing about them” she said, staring deep into his eyes. She was pleading and for a moment he saw a desperate daughter not a rich heiress or a manipulative woman. He slowly glanced towards Kieran, probably waiting to see his reaction. But–he got none. “ He is making more experi

Lila woke up, she felt a sharp inexplicable pain. A hiss escaped her lips, forehead creased in pain . Her body felt like it was on the edge, frail and wavering. She remembered the harsh haul, the way that shadow guard had lunged at Allistair. She snapped her eyes open, was she alive or dead? Was Allistair still alive? The thought of him dying unnerved her. If he died, her father would immediately target freya’s family and everything she had done would be all for nothing. She tried to sit up and that was when she saw the ropes on her wrist and the environment she was in. Her heart sank. She was tied to the bed like a woman waiting to be defiled, but …the room, it was familiar, it was the room she woke up in, the one at Kieran's place. The light curtains, the breath of luxury, the soft bed, the familiar lamplight beside the bed. The familiar scent of olive and the ceiling made of rich mahogany. Everything screamed Kieran's place. But ..the question was–why was she tied up? “

“ How did you find us?” Allistair finally broke the silence in the house. Kieran flung his bloody suit aside, looking like he was ready to commit murder. “ He had Orion watch you” Caedmon answered , patching him up. He winced, the pain from his shoulder was stinging. Almost like his arm was about to be ripped off his shoulders. He furrowed his brow, Kieran sent someone to follow him? It explained the ominous feeling of being watched when he left the gala building. He let out a small smile, glanced at Kieran…“ He talks about trust but he certainly didn't trust I would listen to him” he said, groaned when Caedmon wrapped the bandage firmly. “ It's not you he doesn't trust. It's her” Caedmon said, gesturing towards Lila who was still lying on the floor appearing lifeless. Allistair remembered something. The way Lila had reacted. The shadow guards. Everything. “if we didn't go, we couldn't have known George Bunks was working for Blackwell” he said and Caedmon exhaled. “ If Ori

Kieran walked slowly, steadily. Twigs snapping with each movement. His trembling hands had subsided but his anger spiked seeing Allistair on the floor. A feeling he didn't understand. Couldn't tell exactly why he was angry. “ Kieran” Allistair whispered, a look of shock, fear and hope flashing in his eyes. He ignored him and slowly walked towards the shadow guard who immediately took two steps backwards. He smirked. Wasn't he all bold a while ago? The four gathered together, taking up a stance. One that oozed a killer intent. “ They don't seem ordinary” Orion, his shadow guard whispered, hands clenched on his gear-shaped weapon. “ I'm not either” Kieran breathed and lunged forward. The shadow guards all came at him at the same time. It was like they knew that play time was over and it was serious business. Kieran flung his dagger towards one, sliding under the ground. The first shadow guard dodged but it didn't miss the second guard. The second hissed in pai

Water splattered as he ran. He felt regretful for a second. He should have just stayed back at the gala. He should have listened to Kieran but now it was already too late. He felt a dark intent, more like danger in a close range. He dodged and a dagger ripped past him and stuck itself on the only wooden door frame. His eyes widened with horror as his blood ran cold. They struck to kill, nothing else. He couldn't make out Lila's figure in the dark or which direction she took, he strained his eyes and that slowed his movement, then he saw her. She darted out of the exit door in the speed of lightening and he did same the next second. “ They followed us?” He asked, his voice rough as he sprinted towards the car. “ No, these ones are different” she replied unevenly, trying to catch her already fleeting breath. He didn't have the brain to process what she just said but he caught onto something. How could she tell if they were different or not? He pulled the door open but the next

Lila's head snapped towards him, her hands tightening on the steering wheel. “ Who's that?” She asked. He leaned backwards. His brows furrowed. Was he wrong? Was he seeing the wrong thing. He wasn't sure of what he was shocked of. The fact that he could see in the dark or the fact that he just saw George Bunks and too, with Blackwell? Lila sighed, “ look, I know ..I know Kieran told you not to trust me. But..” she said and held his hand, looking deep into his eyes. Time seemed to stop for a moment and his earlier thoughts vanished …“ You can trust me” she added. He froze. Trust? He didn't trust anyone. But …he would rather trust Lila than believe Kieran. He nodded, “ George Bunks. He is the one I need to meet to know more about my blood” he said. Lila withdrew her hand from him. Her brows gathered together. It looked like she was trying hard to know where she heard the name. Then she paused, her eye flashing with a light glint. Realization to be exact. “ You know him?”
