CHAPTER ELEVEN: THE CHAIRMAN'S DAUGHTER

Just as the special unit promised, the six newly employed staffs started work at the special unit department after the training and to say they're not enjoying the work is an understatement.

They got to understand that the special unit is like the heart of the empire, and so the best of the best are employed to work there.

"Ven, Richard and Olivia see me in my office immediately"Mr.Drip said to the three of them and returned back to his office.

" Okay Sir,"they said and stood up immediately to meet him in his office as ordered.

" The Chairman's daughter is returning back to Kandon today after completing her studies abroad and therefore you've been assigned to go and pick her at the airport due to security reasons". He explained to them.

" Remember!! You're to protect her with your life", he reminded them.

" Okay Sir, but when is she going to arrive?" Richard asked for them to know when they will go and pick her.

"She is to arrive around 2 PM but anything can happen so you're to be at the airport 1 PM", he said to them.

"Since she does not recognize you and you people also do not recognize her, you are to hold a paperboard where you should inscribe her name. Her name is Grace therefore you should write her name in the paperboard".

"Hence, when she sees this she will understand that you are the people assigned to pick her". He said to them because he won't want them to be in trouble knowing the kind of lady Grace is.

" Noted Sir,we would put it in mind and do that before leaving to pick her", they said in unison.

" And lastly, make sure you accord her the respect required as respecting her is just like respecting the chairman, do you understand?" He asked them.

" Yes sir, we won't disrespect her", they said to him and left his office to prepare for the task ahead of them.

Just as instructed,they left the office early to go and pick the chairman's daughter but were delayed on the way,due to an accident that happened on the way. The car blocked the way and prevented vehicles from moving. This led to them getting to the airplane late.

" Raise the paperboard up for her to identify us",Ven said to Richard who then raised it up so that the person who they were expecting can identify them.

Grace was already fuming in anger expecting the staffs to be at the airport waiting for her already but was surprised not to meet anybody. She then promised herself to deal with them when they arrive.

She later spotted them few minutes later and started one of them raising a paperboard with her name written on it.

" Finally they are here those fools", she said silently to herself.

Immediately she got to where they are, she slapped the first man who happened to be Richard and raised her hand to slap the second man when the latter hold her hand.

" Are you in your right senses?" She asked himwhen she saw how he held her hand and prevented her from slapping him.

" Yes ma, I'm in right senses just that I will never allow myself to be punished for an offence I know nothing about"Ven said to her daringly.

" So you're trying to say you're not liable to be punished?" She asked.

" Yes ma unless you explain the reason for that slap" he said to her.

" Okay,why did you come late to pick me up or were you not told that I don't wait for people?" She asked angrily.

" If it was because of that, we're sorry ma it was not intentional"He apologized to her.

"A car blocked the way and so we were not able to move for like thirty minutes. That is the reason why we arrived late, it was not a deliberate action"he explained to her.

" Whatever,it must not repeat itself because I will sack all of you if it happens again", she said to them and entered the car.

Since they came with two cars,she entered the first one with Ven to drive her while Richard and Olivia entered the second car and followed them. Unknown to them that danger was looming ahead.

Just as they began the journey back home,Ven was driving while Grace was busy pressing her phone. She looked up and was tempted to start a conversation with him.

" What is your name because I don't think you introduced yourself or did you?" She asked him.

" Sorry ma, my name is Ven and I'm currently working for the special unit", he said to her as he continued driving.

" I believe you are a new staff or are you not?" She asked him.

Just as he wanted to answer her, they heard gunshots. Some people started firing bullets and from the way they were firing it, they were aiming at Grace Brown.

" What is happening"Grace asked Ven as she was afraid.

" I don't know but we need to leave this place immediately"he said to her.

The assassins continued shooting with Ven driving with full speed. They were trailing them and were also shooting as they were following Ven's car. Ven then called Richard to alert the special unit of what is happening and to inform the police immediately.

" Ma I'm sorry but I think we will need to dump this car here to deceive them and find our way from here". He suggested as he knew the assassins were going to catch up with them if they continue driving.

" Leave what.... I have never trekked before, I don't think that would be...", She said and was about to complete it when a bullet hit the glass where she was sitting.

Ven got down from the car immediately, opened her door and carried her in the bridal style as he continued to run and he diverted into the forest.

Richard on the other hand had called the special unit headquarter and reported what was happening to them. They were told to wait for the backup and the police after they alerted them that Ven flee away from the scene with Grace Ben.

In the forest,he dropped her and they both continued running as they were being chased by the assassins. After running for a while, they hid somewhere behind a tree and watched the assassins as they pass their place without noticing them.

" What are we going to do now",Grace asked him after they saw the assassins go far in the forest without seeing them.

"I don't know what to do but let us wait a little because the assassins may come back here. After sometime, we will then look for a way to leave this forest" he said to her.

They then sat down there for a while just to be sure the assassins are not coming back. This got Ven thinking that who could actually plot this kind of thing to kill the only daughter of the Chairman.

" What are you thinking about?" She asked him when she observed that he was lost in thought.

" Nothing really, just thinking of this assassination attempt and the people capable of doing this" He said to her.

" The Brown family has been facing assassination like this for a long time. We have a lot of enemies, rivals in the business world and even from families. Did you know the former Chairman was also assassinated?" She asked him.

" No, I just heard that he died and your father the current chairman took over, what really happened?" he asked with curiosity all over him.

" Then you don't deserve to be an agent", she said teasingly.

" His name was Alex Brown the first son of the Brown family and the elder brother to my dad. I was told that he was humble and nice to his workers. He was assassinated with his family years ago by unknown assassins and up till now the assassins have not been identified"She said to him.

" I didn't know he was also assassinated then that means those people who did that are still alive?" He asked her.

" Definitely,that is why since then,the securities has been tightened, I believe those people who attacked us today have been watching out for us and saw this as an opportunity. Thank God they did not succeed", She said to him.

" I think we can start moving right now since they've gone far into the forest. Let's hurry before they retrace their steps back here"he said to Grace and they both stood up to continue their journey.

Unknown to them,those assassins after going deep into the forest decided to come back after searching the nook and cranny of the forest. Just as Ven and the chairman's daughter Grace stood up to find their way out of the forest,they came in contact with the assassins.

"You people thought you are smart and could easily hide from us?" One of the assassins who happened to be the leader asked and since they were in mask Ven could not identify them.

" Young Man don't waste our time, just give us this lady and go on your way. We were not ordered to kill anybody but to just bring her", the man added.

" That will not be possible as I was told to protect her with my life"he said to the assassin.

" You will protect her?.... He asked (laughing), is it with this filthy mouth of yours?... I won't repeat it hand her over to us and go on your way"He said to Ven again with a warning tone.

" I will protect her from idiots like you. If you really think you have the strength drop your guns and let's fight man to man with our bare hands". Ven said as he knows that they have an edge over him since they are armed with weapons.

" Okay, you think you can beat me? I accept your proposal",he said and dropped his weapon and instructed his men to drop theirs on the floor also. He then got ready to fight with Ven.

He attacked Ven fiercely and as the latter managed to dodge the punch,he kicked Ven with his leg and Ven fell down.

" Do you really think you are a match for me?"he asked laughing.

" Do they determine a match just because you striked first ?"Ven asked smirking.

" You can still talk, I will show you who I really am" he said and attacked Ven again.

He attacked Ven with all his might, while Ven held his hand and punched him in his face and he fell down. He rose from the ground and came attacking again. Ven kicked him hard and he fell flat on the floor unable to stand up.

One of them seeing this, quietly took his gun back from the ground and aimed at Grace. Ven seeing this then rushed to Grace to stop the bullet from hitting her and that led to the bullet hitting him...
