CHAPTER FIVE: MOVING TO KANDON

"Please can i sit down here?" Ven asked the female passenger sitting down at the seat at the last row of the bus.

" Yes, you can sit down here", she said to him.

" Thank you very much",Ven said and sat down beside her.

Ven was finally done with his studies and thus decided to settle down at Kandon though with a different reason entirely.

Ven's journey to Kandon was due to the blood stained paper he saw beside his adopted father Kelvin dead body. That night still remained evergreen in his memory as he got home to meet the only person he has ever known as father lying on the floor dead.

He got home and saw his father in his pool of blood was something he always try and avoid remembering. That night saw his rebirth as the only thing he kept thinking of was who murdered him as it was obvious that he was not killed and when he saw the blood stained paper with Brown empire inscribed in it he knew something was fishy.Funy enough, the police closed the cast early as if there was something behind it and concluded that it's murder even after showing them the blood stained paper. How is that possible? He knew the last thing his father would actually do was to commit suicide and then knew he had to take the drastic step..

He was curious as to why that kind of name will be beside a dead man and from what he viewed,he reasoned that his father folded it and only released it when he died as if he was trying to pass an information across to him.

He searched for the name of the company and was shocked as to his discovery. It was there he found out that it was one of the biggest conglomerates that dominated the business world, and the holding company was in Kandon. Therefore, when he completed his university education with first class graduating as the best student in the school,he made up his mind to go to Kandon where he believe that the answer to his questions would be answered and also to avenge his death and punish those behind it mercilessly even when he was offered the opportunity to lecture at his school with a promising salary and oppourtunity to further in his education pursuit.

"My name is Olivia and you are?"the lady he sat down beside whose name happened to be Olivia asked him.

"Pardon me, I'm Ven by name." He said with a straight face not smiling.

"I have been watching you since morning and it looks like you're going to Kandon for the first time." Olivia asked Ven and with the excitement in her voice you would reason that she looks very happy travelling to Kandon.

"You are quite right, I'm just travelling to Kandon for the first time although deep down in his heart he feels like he has visited Kandon before but since he has no memory of such and never heard his father (Kelvin) mentioning such,he concluded that it's the anxiety of the task ahead of him that is troubling him."

"You look very elated going to Kandon or is this also your first time?" Ven asked her even though he was not interested,he could not but noticed her smiles and reactions whenever they come across something beautiful on the way.

"I left Kandon when I was seven years of age with my parents and did not for once visited the town till this moment when I completed my studies and my memory when I was living in Kandon was that of fun."

" ohhh I can see that in you indeed."

Olivia is a cheerful and beautiful lady and talks quite much that even for a silent person, you won't have a choice but to finally interact with her . She started talking about herself and was asking him questions at interval. It was then he discovered that she also came to look for a job in Kandon though a fresh graduate, as a lot of huge companies are located there.

" Have you heard of The Brown group of companies before?" Ven could not mind asking.

" Sure,who would want to work in the business world and won't know anything about Brown?" She said to him.

" It's one of the greatest companies known internationally for having an impact in almost all sectors of human life. They are one of the richest family in Kandon and the world at large". She said smiling with passion emitting from her as she spoke.

" I didn't know their reputation is international. I would actually love to work there when I settle down in Kandon". Ven said feigning ignorance of knowing anything about Brown.

" Really!! that I'm also wishing for, that place worth it. The prestige that goes with working there cannot be overemphasized", Olivia said lovingly.

Finally they got to their Kandon, and they all came down with their respective luggages to find their way to their respective homes. Olivia bade him goodbye while Ven phoned his friend Alex who was already in Kandon already to come and pick him up since he would be living with him.

Alex father is an influential man in Kandon but Alex not found of his father decided to school in Krumb where his uncle lives and after enough arguments with his parents on him returning to Kandon decided to live in Kandon but not with his father. He got his own apartment where he is living as he is already working in Kandon.

Alex promised to be there in a short while and therefore urge Ven to wait so as to make it easy for him to identify him when he get there. He got there few minutes later and the journey home started immediately.

"You're looking big and okay or what is Elisa giving you that is making you glow like this?"Alex asked him teasingly

"You're not serious at all Alex or what do you mean?" Between you and I who is enjoying or you've finally gotten a girlfriend? No wonder or was that why you were smiling when you were looking at your phone? Ven asked teasingly while Alex burst out laughing. The two friends were joking and teasing each other till they got home.

After they got home, Ven took out his luggage from the car and followed Alex. Alex opened the door with the password and uttered it out to Ven's ear in preparation for the future as he thought. They entered and Alex said" Ven you are welcome to my apartment", i know it is small but it's accommodating.

"This is a small apartment or what did i hear you say now? I won't deceive you this is a big apartment," Ven said praised him for a job well done and prayed for him.

" This is your room bro, go and have a shower while I go prepare something for you to eat."Alex said to Ven as he considered that with that journey,he would be hungry.

" Exactly, just as if you knew what is worrying me. I'm hungry right now bro, don't allow this poor man to die of hunger,"Ven said.

" I've not forgotten that you don't joke with food."Alex said while Ven tapped him feigning annoyance in a playful way. Alex is actually happy that Ven was coming out of his shell and could even laugh as he remembers what he went through when his father died.

Alex set the table and he and Ven sat down to eat rice after Ven had showered as that was their food for dinner cooked by Alex. After eating the sumptuous meal,they went to rest in the sitting room and watch the television. Alex later initiated a conversation concerning what Ven came to do at Kandon.

"Ven do you really think brown empire have something to do with the death of your father? Because I have been thinking as to where the connection is and who indeed did it". Alex asked as he knew about the blood letter Ven found.

"I don't really know because part of me does not want to believe that it's related to that influential family because my father is just a mere security guard but on the other hand,I don't have a choice than to find out where the connection lies and to find out the motive for the murder but with the way the police closed the case depicts that there's more to his death. To do that, i believe i need to start from working there then other strategies with then follow". Ven replied.

"So which branch exactly do you want to work for as you know that they are a lot of subsidiaries.

"Anywhere that will make it easy for me to obtain information that i need and will make it easy for me to have access to the company. I was told that they are already recruiting people and we're to to write a written exam tommorow before the main interview. I pray I'm employed as my life depends on this."

"Sure if you are not employed,who then are they going to employ?when the best graduating student is there they will not leave him and employ some people whose results are not up to his." Alex said smiling though I know he is trying to put me at ease.

"That was in the past but right now, you having a reliable connection is enough to get employed. I just pray that I'm given the job." He said earnestly.

"True I pray that you are given." Alex also added.

Kelvin also asked concerning Elisa. He asked Ven whether she has the plan to join him in Kandon or stay in Krumb. Ven answered him that it was likely she move to Kandon since her parents are presently living in Kandon although she's not coming quite soon. She is preparing to further her studies abroad, and therefore will move to Kandon when she complete her studies and come back home.

"How far? Have you started going home regularly to check up on your parents especially your mother? Ven asked facing Alex.

"Regarding that one, I check up on my mom once in a while but as for my father, I'm not yet ready to do that. When it's time I believe we will sort it out".

After discussing and gisting for a while,they watched a movie for a while before they went to their rooms to sleep as they were both going out tomorrow since it was Monday. Alex was going to work as he is working at AZ company while Ven is going for Brown group of companies written exam. Ven slept immediately he got to the room as he was tired from the journey.

The next day, at 7:30 AM Ven is still enjoying his sleep moving from one side to the other side oblivious of the fact that time has gone and he's suppose to be on his way for the examination he has today.

"Ven! Ven! Ven! won't you wake up it's already 7:30, or you're no more going for the job examination? Stand up, go and get ready while I prepare something for us to eat". Alex added after making sure he had opened his eyes.

Ven stood up immediately as the reality dawn on him and he hurriedly entered the bathroom. He brushed his teeth,took his bath and dressed up without wasting time because the examination is around 9 AM and won't want to lose the job for anything in the world.

He joined Alex at the dining table for breakfast which was bread and tea. Alex who also woke up late after bathing and dressing up decided him since he knew him to be an early riser and thus didn't bother and went to bathe before he went to check up on him in his room. To his dismay,he met Ven sleeping and so immediately wake him up to prepare as he knew that he had an appointment that same day.

After eating, Ven went inside to take the necessary documents with him while Alex went to wait for him in the car as time has really gone. They drove out immediately as the time was already 8:30 AM few minutes to the commencement of the examination.

They got to the company premises few minutes to the commencement of the program,Ven bade Alex goodbye and hurriedly went inside. When he got inside the company,the secretary asked him what he came to do and he answered that he came for the job examination. She then directed him to the human resources department. He got to the human resources office and submitted his credentials after which he was directed to the hall where the exam was to hold.

He was lucky that the exam started late so he was already in the hall before it started. They distributed the question papers and the answer sheet with the duration of one hour to answer the question.

"Submit! Submit! Submit!" The supervisor ordered and started collecting the paper from them. When they got outside Ven bumped into a lady and was surprised to see that it's Olivia.

"You also came for the examination?" Ven asked her.

"Yes, you know i told you that day I hope to get employed by kandon or other big companies in Kandon. It was the day I got to Kandon that i was informed of the examination and so i had to participate since I may be employed here," she said.

"So how was the exam?" She asked Ven.

"It's quite okay so we expect good result what about you?" He also asked her.

"I also tried my best so I hope that my name is also among those that would be called for the next week interview," Olivia prayed.

"I pray so, I was already on my way home when I bumped into you so I believe we will meet again during the interview, have a nice day." Ven said and bade her goodbye and went on his way home.

Since he was new to the city and did not want to bother Alex, he opted to go home by himself since he believe that if later he start working at Brown,he won't want to be a burden to Alex or stress him, therefore it's better he start now.

"No.7 kanya street please!!" Shouted Ven to the taxi driver he was able to stop and he entered. It was easy to get home as the driver was able to identify the house and after paying went inside since he also knew the passcode courtesy of his friend Alex.

Immediately he got inside, he fell flat on the couch to rest and also to think on what the future hold in stock for him knowing fully well that he has a long way to go in accomplishing his mission.
