FIFTEEN YEARS LATER
Kelvin, average in height, fair in complexion and physically built and strong now work as a security guard at a company called Vite in a City far away from Kandon known as Krumb. This job he had to take just to take care of himself and his adopted son Ven as he had to change the boy surname to that of his own to protect him as he knew those who masterminded the murder of Ven's parents would still be on the lookout to eliminate him.In the evening when kelvin got home after a hectic day at work, he met Ven sleeping on the couch calmly. He looked at him for a while lovingly before he went in to prepare their dinner for both of them to eat. Even though,he was not his biological father, the love he has for Ven is something else even to his surprise. People will never believe he's not his father because they somehow look like only that Ven is taller than him this he got from Alex. After the cooking,he went to wake Ven to eat dinner. He tapped him and as if he had been waiting all along for him, stood up immediately and sat down with kelvin to eat rice as dinner."How was today's class and I think you made mention of you people commencing your exam soon?" Kelvin asked Ven as he is happy that even with their condition Ven is making him proud in school and his mind went to his parents. How they would have been happy if they were alive to see what their son is achieving." Today's class was interesting and great, the lecturer lectured us with a different method today. whenever he observes that we the students are getting tired or distracted,he would crack jokes to draw everybody back to what he's saying unlike that Professor Daniel who throughout his class with us last week was just warning and reminding us that he can fail anybody he want". Ven said to Alex that was his normal thing to do as his father remains his only gist partner apart from his friend Alex and he does not hide anything from him."Our exam is commencing next week and l don't know why I feel so nervous maybe because of the way they are portraying it", he said to Kelvin with a tone of anxiety."What are they saying?" Kelvin asked him worriedly." Most of them are making it sound as if our destiny lies in their hands with the way they act in class and this is making me nervous, Ven said." Don't worry everything will be fine, they just want you people to know the reason why you're in school they can't do anything bad since they also have conscience, Kelvin assured Ven"." Okay Dad, hearing you say that has given me a kind of assurance, I love you daddy". Ven said lovingly to Kelvin. He so much loves his father so much."If you don't love me, who are you going to love?" Kelvin asked teasingly" Nobody". Ven said and they both bursted out laughing at his remark. They then continued eating, after they finished eating,Ven packed the plates to the kitchen and they went to sleep as they both had places to go the next day........On the day of the misfortune which led to the death of Ven's father and mother, after kelvin fled away from the scene with Ven, he was running and without observing and paying attention to where he's going,as he continued running fell down on the way and since Ven was in his arms, they both started rolling on the floor till the wind carrying them halted and they met themselves somewhere in a plain land.As they landed,Ven hit his head on a rock just as Kelvin released him to rest a little as he was tired already. Kelvin after he saw that Ven fainted, carried him again and started running with ten year old Ven in his arms oblivious of where he's going but ended up on the main road by luck.Kelvin continued to signal to cars to wait and just have pity on the child and take them to the hospital as he did not have any money on him. All the cars he was trying to stop just drove off without stopping. It was a car that later stopped and asked to be taking to the hospital to treat Ven who he called his son. It was then he knew that indeed he was a new land far away from Kandon. The good Samaritan out of pity took them to the hospital, and even paid for Ven medical fee before he left them at the hospital. When Ven woke up and saw Kelvin,he was just shouting"Dad",Dad". Kelvin was perplexed as to the situation of things. The doctor reading this on his face then had to explain what it was all about. He explained that Ven is suffering from memory loss. He then advised him to take care of him well that he will regain his memory in due time. After spending couple of days at the hospital, he was discharged and the journey on how to survive in the strange land they found themselves started. He and Ven slept outside for a week at any place they see convenient for them in the night and every morning they will continue walking around begging for food and money. Eventually they met that good Samaritan who rescued them and took them to the hospital. They met him whose name they later found out to be Mr park at the gate of a company called Vite. The man was surprised to see them looking haggard and dirty and asked them to come closer to him.. He asked them what they are doing there and Kelvin answered that they were strangers in this city and therefore were looking for a place to rest their head and he was also looking for a job.The man asked him what he was capable of doing and he said he was a trained bodyguard and could therefore serve as a security man, an answer to which the man smiled to. He then instructed Kelvin to resume work the following Monday to start as the security guard to the company. The man was based in Kandon and just established the company at Krumb. This made it easy for him to hand over the security guard job to kelvin. The man also gave them a whooping sum of money to be used to secure a place for shelter. Kelvin could not thank the man enough as he was crying and surprised that how could someone who didn't know him from Adam be so generous as to do this kind of things. He could only repeat thank you as much as possible till the man left.Kelvin started the work and even enrolled Ven in a high school where he was to continue his schooling. And through loyalty to the man and diligence, he was able to maintain the job.Ven secured his scholarship towards his last year in high school when he went for a competition and since in the whole of Krumb,he emerged with the first position ,he was designated for scholarship to Achiever's university." Ven go inside and sleep as I can see that you're tired"Kelvin said as he noticed that he was already dozing on his chair. He too was also tired as his work is also highly demanding." Ok Dad, goodnight and sweet dreams" Ven said and left to his room to sleep as he was leaving the house the next morning early." And you too" Kelvin said and watched him open his door and entered.Just as he was also preparing to leave for his room, his phone rang with a strange number showing. He decided not to pick it as since that night,he has been trying to be cautious as he knew that those people could still be looking for Ven to kill him as they did to his parents. But since the caller was unrelenting and the call could wake Ven up as he's a light sleeper,he opted to pick it." Hello, who am I speaking to?" He asked and tried to lower his voice to the lowest level because of Ven." Longest time"....................

CHAPTER EIGHTY FIVE: CYRUS TRAIL
Cyrus Vane never trusted a lead that came too easily. When the first packet on Bryan landed on his desk two weeks ago, he’d gone through it twice, then a third time, searching for the mistake. The background was too clean and suspicious for someone like him who had develop trust issues already. Bryan was exactly what he appeared to be: personal assistant to no one particularly important in public records, a man whose official work history was a blur of small consultancies and logistics firms. No debts. No unexplained assets. No family drama to speak of.But people didn’t stay invisible this long without a reason. Definitely Bryan had a very huge reason for that.Cyrus sat in his private office overlooking the city, one booted foot resting on the edge of the desk, phone pressed to his ear as the rain whispered against the windows.“You’re sure this is him?” he asked. The voice on the other end,one of his best watchers was cautious. “Positive. Bryan was seen leaving the west district
CHAPTER EIGHTY FOUR: Henry's discovery
Henry had never been one for family dinners, much less the kind where smiles were served as appetizers and betrayal was the main and essence. So when he heard through the kind of murmured office gossip that he usually ignored, that Kate had invited Davis to a private meeting over dinner, he didn’t react outwardly. Kate and Davis in the same room, alone. That was rare. It is rarely a good sign and obviously a beginning of a dangerous coalition.Henry was a Brown by blood but not by the same fire as the others. Davis thrived on dominance. Victory on calculated force. Kate on tactical charm and disrupting. Henry had built his own path quietly, keeping a reputation for being uninvolved, which suited him perfectly. In business, being underestimated was an advantage personally, while in family politics, it was a survival tactic. But lately, the air around the Brown Empire had shifted. The first attack on Davis and Victory had been an obvious escalation. Whoever had arranged it was either
CHAPTER EIGHTY THREE: A new Alliance
She’d lived with the command for days. Not because the words themselves were loud, but because the three shadows never wasted language. The instruction lodged in her chest and refused to leave: Bring Davis to your side, make him believe you." It had been a simple statement, its weight came from who had given it and what it implied.Kate had obeyed the first order already. Erica had been removed cleanly, without scandal exactly as the shadows required. That silence afterwards felt like a held breath. Now it was time for the next step. The plan needed to look like a gift that Davis could claim for himself, men like him would not be led by orders, only by the illusion of their own initiative.Dawn had barely broken when Marta, her chief of staff, slid a slim folder under her office door and knocked once.Marta was the one Kate trusted to execute delicate arrangements. Marta’s knock was the signal that the curated materials were ready. Kate opened the folder: market analyses crafted to loo
CHAPTER EIGHTY TWO: Setup
The late-night city stretched beneath Davis’s penthouse balcony, a scatter of lights against the dark. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of aged whiskey and the faint hum of the central heating. The shareholders’ meeting was weeks behind them now, but its ripples still shaped every move in the Brown Empire.Kate had played her hand at that meeting by tightening her alliances, working the room with a calculated charm that had shifted several neutral shareholders into her camp. Davis hadn’t stopped thinking about it since. He poured a glass of whiskey, letting the burn of it settle in his chest. Victory was stretched out on the leather sofa across the room, jacket thrown over the armrest, tie loosened. He looked as relaxed as a man could be,while in their world, he is far from relaxation. They are really troubled and restless for a while now beginning with the assassination attempt, and the outcome of the shareholders meeting.“You saw how she’s been moving since that meeting,”
CHAPTER EIGHTY ONE: Chess Board or a player
The silence in her office was unnerving. Not the usual kind that came when her staff had gone home and the tower’s corridors emptied for the night, but the heavy, watchful silence that felt like it was listening. Kate sat at her desk with her elbows resting lightly on the polished surface, her fingertips pressed together in thought. The skyline stretched out before her in gold and silver light, but she barely saw it.All day, she’d been waiting for the call, the message, the subtle sign that her quiet removal of Erica Navin had been noticed. She had done it exactly as they’d asked. Ensure that there was no noise, no spectacle, just a clean, bloodless cut. Erica was gone without a ripple. And yet, the three shadows who had given the order had said nothing since. It was a strange kind of torture for her,not knowing if she had passed their test or merely played into some longer, more elaborate game. She reached for the glass on her desk, swirling the untouched scotch inside. In the still
CHAPTER EIGHTY: The Invitation
The rain had been steady all evening, falling against the cracked skylights of the old warehouse. Each drop seemed to mark a quiet, relentless ticking that told Ven the night was getting older, and the game was getting tighter. He stood at the head of the long table, sleeves rolled up, hands braced on the spread of documents and maps beneath him. Every visible inch of the table was covered: Brown Empire’s branching subsidiaries, holdings across four continents, the personal networks of Davis, Victory, Kate, and Henry. There were photographs with corners curling from repeated handling, red marker lines marking the empire’s skeleton, and thin black threads connecting names to events like a hunter’s trap web.He had built this map gradually with the sole intent on how to fully take over the Empire. Every connection was earned with risk. Every pin placed with purpose. And yet tonight, too many new lines were appearing without his hand touching the pen.Bryan entered, moving like a shadow
