Zeeva broke down in tears as the devastating news reached her at the hospital.

“How’s your mother?” Lyra her manager, sat down beside her.

“She slipped back into a coma… because I still haven’t found a compatible donor for her.”

“I’m so sorry. Did you ask your fiancé? Didn’t he promise to help you find one?”

“He doesn’t care about my family at all. All he wants is my fame.”

“What a bastard! Why did you even agree to get engaged to him?”

“I had no choice. He was the one who gave me this job… and the money.”

“But you’re a famous actress now! You don’t need him anymore. There are plenty of agencies dying to sign you!”

“I know. But he’s the only one who lent me a huge sum for Mom’s medical bills. And honestly… I owe him for giving me a shot in this industry. Without him, I couldn’t have supported my family.”

“He’s using you, Zeeva. He trapped you in a cycle of debt so you’d submit to him. The only reason he lent you money was because he saw your potential as his cash cow. Once you stop being profitable, he’ll toss you aside and find another victim. He’s a leech.”

“I know… but I don’t care. All I want is to save my mother.”

“Your mother would say the same thing I’m saying now. Leave him, and I’ll back you up. If you stay with him, you’ll lose yourself, Zeeva. Trust me, you’ll find better jobs without him. You’ll even make more money.”

“If I break our agreement, he’ll blacklist me. He’ll spread lies and make sure every entertainment company shuts their doors on me. They’ll believe him, he’s powerful in this industry.”

Lyra  clenched her fists, frustrated.

“I have to go to the hospital. Tell the director I need a few hours off.”

“Alright.”

Zeeva hailed a cab and rushed to the hospital. But when she arrived at her mother’s room, it was empty.

“Where’s my mom?” Zeeva asked the nurse tidying up the room.

“She’s been taken to surgery.”

Zeeva’s heart dropped. “Surgery? Why?! Why was she moved?”

“She’s undergoing a kidney transplant.”

“That’s impossible! I haven’t even found a compatible donor yet!”

“But someone volunteered. A man who said he’s your friend.”

Her eyes widened in shock. She didn’t know anyone who would go that far for her.

“Who is he? I need to see him!”

“You can’t. He’s in surgery right now. Maybe after it’s done.”

Disappointment sank into her chest like a stone.

Zee a paced anxiously outside the operating room, whispering desperate prayers—for her mother… and for that mysterious man.

Hours crawled by. Finally, the doctor came out and smiled. “The surgery went well.”

Zeeva broke down in relief, as if someone had pulled her out of years of darkness.

“Can I see the donor?”

“Of course. But he asked to meet you after the anesthesia wears off.”

“Alright…” She had no choice but to wait.

When she finally walked into the recovery room—

“Zane?!”

Zane gave a faint smile. His face was pale, his body weak. “Good to see you. How’s your mom?”

Zeeva ran to him and slapped him lightly.

“Ugh! What are you—” He froze when she suddenly wrapped her arms around him, sobbing into his chest.

“Why would you do this for me? Why?!” Her tears soaked his hospital gown.

Zane chuckled softly, even as his eyes glistened. “Because I know what it feels like… to lose someone you love. And I don’t want you to feel that pain too.” A fleeting image of Lucy flashed in his mind.

“That’s all?” Her voice trembled. It didn’t make sense.

“No. There’s another reason.” His gaze locked with hers. “Because I love you. Will you marry me? I can’t give you everything you asked for, but I—”

“Yes!” she blurted out, breathless.

Zane blinked, stunned. “Are you serious?”

“Of course I am! Why would I refuse? You’ve given me more than I ever asked for.”

‘I knew this would work.’

“Can you bring me the thing I left with you before surgery?” Zane asked the nurse.

“Of course.” She returned with a small velvet box and handed it to him.

He flipped it open to reveal a sparkling diamond ring.

“Zeeva… will you marry me?”

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she nodded. “Yes. I will.”

He slid the ring onto her finger, and the nurses around them burst into applause.

[Congratulations! Mission Complete.]

[Reward Granted.]

Zane smirked to himself. My revenge is only one step away.

***

A week later.

“Marry HIM?! Are you insane?!” Alfredo roared, his voice shaking the walls. “I forbid it!”

“I don’t need your permission anymore!” Zeeva snapped back, her voice fierce for the first time in years.

For so long, she had been obedient because Alfredo had the one thing she needed, a kidney that matched her mother’s. He had promised to donate… if she kept paying him.

But it was all lies. No matter how much money she gave, he kept stalling.

Now she didn’t need him anymore.

“What... do you want your mother to die?!” Alfredo spat.

“Die?” A cold laugh sliced through the air.

Liana rolled in on a wheelchair, Zane pushing her from behind.

“You?!” Alfredo’s jaw dropped. “How the hell are you alive?!”

“My future son-in-law saved me,” Liana said, her tone dripping with triumph.

“You dare destroy my family?!”

“You destroyed it yourself,” Liana shot back.

Alfredo’s face twisted in rage. “You think you’ve won? I’ll ruin you both. I’ll make your life hell! I’ll tell your fiancé to fire you. I’ll leak a scandal, and the whole world will hate you. You’ll starve in the streets. Then you’ll come crawling back to me, begging to marry him.”

Zeeva flinched. His threats weren’t empty. She still needed work to care for her mom and Zane wasn’t wealthy.

“Go ahead,” Zane said coolly. “Try it. But remember this, you’ll regret it.”

Alfredo sneered. “You? What can a broke loser like you do against me and Danzel?”

“You’ll see,” Zane replied, his eyes burning with a deadly promise. “Come on, baby. Let’s get out of here.”

Zane drove his taxi across the long suspension bridge leading toward the glittering financial district, the steel cables humming faintly in the afternoon wind. Below, the river reflected the city lights like shards of broken glass. His final target was no ordinary businessman, but Silas Vane, CEO of Global Trust Bank. Silas was the “treasurer” behind the scenes who managed The Hell Corp’s massive cash flow, ensuring their funds flowed smoothly across borders without raising suspicion. If Silas switched sides, The Hell Corp would be paralyzed overnight, as all their assets would be frozen and their expansion plans would crumble instantly. However, Silas was a very cunning man. He worshipped only one thing: the numbers on his account balance. Loyalty meant nothing to him if it didn’t multiply his wealth. He was known in elite circles as a man who could sell his own shadow if the price was right.Zane arrived at Silas’s private penthouse at the top of a towering skyscraper. The building’

He simply held up his phone, displaying a gold-colored digital code—private access granted only to the highest-ranking partners of Chrizen Corp.“Tell Elena that Christopher’s envoy is here to see her,” Zane said coldly.“Understood,” the guard replied.Moments later, the office door opened, revealing a spacious room with a breathtaking view of the city skyline.
