"Who told him about me, then?" Darius turned to look at the officer with the scar.

The officer skidded to a stop, and his smile froze. He gave Darius a stunned look. "I've never thought about that." He exhaled and shook his head. "I'm mad and worried, but that's not gonna change anything. Borisin won't believe me no matter what I say."

His expression turned helpless. "I think it's better for you to speak to him directly."

Darius raised an eyebrow. The officer's attitude was surprising. He seemed to be in a hurry to have Darius deal with Borisin, and he didn't want to leave any room for surprises. Darius had his guesses but didn't say anything.

Only when they stopped outside a metal door did Darius realize something was amiss. He frowned. "This isn't part of your office."

The officer nodded. "Yes, this isn't considered our jurisdiction." He pulled a key out of his pocket and unlocked the door. Then, he strode in.
