The Nightmare

(Axton's POV)

"Do you love me?"

A woman dressed to the knees in a red dress was seen hugging a large man who was standing without a shirt.

The man with the thick mustache took the woman's hand and pulled her forward, when they both faced each other, the man kissed the woman's red lips.

"Perhaps, I should be the one to ask you that. The fact that you still have a relationship with your husband is proof enough. It bothers me that I have to come to you in secret, but I want everyone in Rome and the rest of the world to know that you are mine, Maria."

The woman, named Maria, then smiled broadly while holding the man with the thick mustache's face. The look in his eyes shows that he adores the figure of the man in front of him.

"Come on, my lovely D'Angelo, you're the only one who truly understands why I'm still with Axton. I just--.”

BRAK!

The door swung open, and I stepped inside, my face flushed with rage. I had a gun in my hand and ready to shoot someone.

"Axton?!"

The woman appeared terrified and quickly released her arms from the man with the thick mustache known as D'Angelo, the leader of Italy's most feared mafia cartel. I was D'Angelo's confidante, so this caught him off guard.

"MARIA! WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME? WHY?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH HIM?!"

Angrily, I pointed at D'Angelo. I no longer regarded the man as my leader.

"Wait a minute, Axton! Don't blame Maria, instead, blame yourself for not making time for her. He doesn't want to demand anything from you; all he wants is a companion in his spare time. You have to be aware if you can't give Maria that thing," D'Angelo said casually, not feeling guilty at all after the two-year affair was revealed.

Of course, I could not accept D'Angelo's sentence. During this time, I always followed my leader's orders to travel and supervise the shipment of drugs and weapons to America and beyond.

My rage increased dramatically in an instant. I would initially only focus on my wife, but D'Angelo's words had just hurt me so much that I immediately aimed the gun at the man, whose full name was D'Angelo Moretti.

"Wow, Axton, you seem really brave now. Don’t you require money in your daily life? Or are you sick and tired of living?" With a chuckle, D'Angelo inquired.

"I WISH YOU WOULD DIE! YOU WILL NOT BE MY LEADER AGAIN!! WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY WIFE?"

My voice broke the night's silence; the noise was so loud that my ten-year-old daughter awoke and ran over to the commotion.

"Daddy!" she screamed, immediately embracing her father. In fact, my daughter more like Axton than Maria. She'd also seen Maria out with D'Angelo several times. She just didn't have the guts to tell it with me.

Seeing the child who had arrived forced me to regulate my emotions. I immediately tucked the gun I was holding into my trouser pocket. I didn't want my daughter to witness anything bad.

"Miley, back to your room. This is just a casual conversation, okay? "

I appeared to bend down and entice the little girl to leave the room. The child, however, refused my request and hugged my legs even tighter. She didn't want to leave the tense situation.

Maria stepped in when she saw the child's persistence. She grabbed my hand and affectionately hugged me.

"Miley, nothing happened between us. It's getting late, and you should go to bed. We're only playing a part," Maria spoke softly.

I nodded and placed my head on Maria's shoulder to recover for a moment so Miley wouldn't get worse seeing her parents.

Miley's eyes sparkled as she looked at her parents, and she nodded slowly. Miley finally got up after nearly two minutes of her footsteps walking forward towards the door.

Maria let go of her arms around my waist as soon as the door closed. "Perhaps this is a good time to be honest," she said, glaring at me from the front, “I can't stay with you any longer, Axton. I'm sorry, but you must accept. I'd rather be with D'Angelo."

My chest tightened. I didn't believe my wife's words because everything was so painful. I also tried to persuade Maria by kneeling at her feet, hoping that my wife would stop making mistakes.

"Please, Maria. Don't leave me! I beg you, I will always accompany you!"

Maria shook her head and moved from in front of me to next to D'Angelo. I locked my gaze on the two of them, my eyes welling up with tears that were about to down.

"HA HA HA! Give it up, Axton. Do you remember who I am? You don't remember if everyone was going to lose to me? Never think you'll win. Maria has already made the best decision!" exclaimed D'Angelo. He locked his gaze on me while wrapping his arm around Maria.

Hearing that, I already raging rage erupted. My hand instinctively drew the gun from the pocket and fired at D'Angelo.

Dor!

The bullet pierced Maria's body quickly. Yup! When the sound of gunshots rang out, Maria immediately braced herself. Maria's body fell and was covered in blood in an instant. I immediately screamed her name.

"MARIA! MARIA, NO!"

Dag!

I awoke from my slumber. When my breath was caught, I looked around and realized that I was still in Rebibbia's prison. I rose from my bed and sat with the head down. Sweat soaked on my body.  I really hate when the nightmare comes and it's making me want to die.

***

(Robert's POV)

I was working on a crossword puzzle on the top mattress and realized what was going on. I heard his breathe  I dared to rebuke Axton. I heard his loud breathe so clearly, like he just finished marathon.

"You didn't sleep, sir?" I inquired, my little head poking out from under the mattress handle.

"I just woke up from a nightmare," Axton said as he looked up and shook his head.

"Um... that must be really annoying. Do you want some candy? I have one that might help you to relax.”

I extended my hand to Axton.

"Thank you very much, Robert," Axton said. He took the candy and immediately ate it.

Curiosity surrounds me, and I asked  him again. I just curious as to what had happened to the former member of the most powerful mafia cartel.

“Could you tell me about your dreams? But, Sir, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine,” I wisely stated.

Axton sighed and replied, "The worst and most terrifying dream of my life," with a lopsided smile and a blank stare ahead, he said again, “I had a dream about shooting my wife."
