Chapter 32
Port Pendleton Elementary School…"I should have stayed with the others.""Kon, come on.""I don't know if I can go through with this, Lizzy. I mean…I'm out of my depth.""Listen to me, Kon, and you listen well: you're Starbolt. You're leading the next generation of superheroes. You essentially came back from the dead after you saved the known universe from complete social collapse with your literal bodily discipline. You were saving lives before you were given a legal permit to do so. This? Nothing compared to what you've already accomplished." Starbolt took a deep breath."Okay…let's do this." Sunlight flooded the hall as they opened the doors, the light illuminating their costumes. Before them, utter chaos. The sounds of high-pitched screaming and the sights of unadulterated primal fury took hold of their senses like an anaconda would its prey. The playground of Port Pendleton Elementary School had truly reached its natural state. "Look at this. Tiny bodies carrying such insubstant
Chapter 31
Petherick, Europe…The Redgrave Castle interior seemed more appropriate for haunting than inhabiting. Lance-wielding guards standing in pairs at each door served to be the only signs of life. The massive rooms carried an ominous, ghostly presence, and not just thanks to the dim lighting and aging architecture. For as long as the Redgraves have ruled Petherick, this castle has housed them. Many a Redgrave have gone cradle to grave residing in the stone walls of the family fortress, and it seemed soon another would join the ranks of the monarchy's dead. King Lucian lay fittingly like a corpse under the crimson bed sheets, wires sticking from his limbs, connected to machines that did little more than show the speed at which his body betrayed him. His skin was tight against his bones, his uncut black hair greying in streaks from scalp to shoulder. His blue eyes shone through the shadow cast over his face, obscuring the disturbing decay of his suffering skin. At the corners of his bed hove

Los Angeles…Agent Alderman stood in the living room of the penthouse with a man carrying a pair of suitcases. The man's moustache matched his neatly combed brown hair, his blue eyes standing out against his pale face that had only recently been reacquainted with the sun's light. Beneath his button-up red flannelette shirt he wore plain white, and below that were simple jeans and runners. His eyes moved around the room, absorbing every detail and allowing his mind to quickly familiarise itself with the layout."Feel good to be out and about?" Alderman asked the man."Unbelievably so." He answered, showing his Texan accent. "I appreciate gettin' the week to get back in touch with the world. See what's changed, what's stayed the same, what's goin' on right now…and, of course, I appreciate bein' given this opportunity. I ain't gonna screw this up, I swear.""I'm certain." Alderman recognised the chattering that came down the hall behind the closed metal door. The man looked up with sligh

Tokyo…Hikaru had finished clearing out his apartment and packing everything he and Umi required for their move to Los Angeles. Had someone not seen him doing so, and watched him stashing all their important possessions as outlined by Umi, they'd likely assume the room hadn't been touched. Hikaru's meticulous cleaning skills were something to behold. With his bags slung over his shoulder and a rolling suitcase in hand, he gave the unit one last, slight smile before turning around. The sight he was treated to was not what he expected, as Nabe stood patiently waiting for him at the doorway in his cyborg ninja armour. Despite some occasional body aches, Nabe had made a full recovery from his impalement two nights before thanks to Red Cross. However, he still saw fit to stand with head-hung anxiety. Hikaru sensed something about him was wrong, and immediately made it a priority to fix that."What troubles you, Nabe?" He asked, sincerity in his words."Nothing, sir." He replied in a non-co
Chapter 28
With each other's words said, their philosophies fully exchanged, they dashed at one another. The light of their swords left streaks in the air as they zoomed ever closer. Their blades collided with each other in a cross shape, their equal force of movement locking them in place when they met at the midpoint of their mutual run towards each other. In mirroring movements, they both raised their respective blades to take another swing, getting only the same result. Rather than attempting a sword-based attack once more, Kenseijin head-butted Kemono through the space above their meeting blades, sending Kemono stumbling back and giving Kenseijin the edge. The direction and momentum of Kenseijin's slashes had Kemono struggling to protect himself as he stumbled back and swung his weapon to keep the blue blade from striking his red armour, the sword saint not slowing down as he pushed him further with every attack. Soon Kemono was backed into the base of the statue, and it was that concrete b

DSA Safe-House, Tokyo…The scratches made an erratically-spaced trail on the floor, reaching from the open elevator to the kitchen. Small pools of rainwater sat alongside the winding white scars, pooling in places where the same rainwater stained and ran down the walls. The still dripping water pooled around the feet of Kenseijin. With one hand he held his side, and with his other, he shakily carried his hanging sword. He squinted to read the characters burnt into the wall, saying "The monument to your name will be our monument to your failure." Umi was nowhere to be found. Neither was Kemono. But he knew where they went, or rather, where he took her. His breath became heavy behind his faceplate as his mind flooded with the worst of thoughts: Umi's head parted from her body, Kemono standing over the remains with a bloodied blade, laughing madly before the grand likeness of Keigo Senshi. Kenseijin hung his head as he felt the realisation set in that everything he cared about was this c
