Aditya stared at the glowing golden instrument, his feet shuffling forward of their own accord. "Is anyone else seeing this?" he stammered, his voice thick and slurred from the heavy drink. "Why is it glowing? Why is my body moving on its own?"
"Oh my god," Chloe gasped, gripping Julian's sleeve. "Julian, look at the lock! It just fell off!"
"I see it, Chloe! I'm not blind!" Julian snapped, though his voice shook. "But how? That lock has been rusted shut since the nineties!"
"Don't go near it, Aditya!" Toby yelled, waving his hands frantically. "Seriously, dude, back away! We don't know what that thing is!"
"I can't!" Aditya groaned, his arm stretching toward the cabinet. "It's like a magnet is pulling my hand! It feels so warm."
"Mariana, do something!" Sarah screamed. "He's going to touch it!"
"No," Mariana whispered, her voice filled with a sudden, breathless awe. "Let him."
"Are you completely insane?" Leo shouted, his hand drum slipping from his fingers and hitting the floor with a hollow thud. "We don't even know what happens if an uninitiated touches the relic! Do you want him to get vaporized?"
"He isn't uninitiated anymore," Mariana said, her eyes locked on Aditya's back. "He drank the welcome blend. He drained the cup."
"We all drank the cup, Mariana!" Julian argued, taking a step toward Aditya but stopping as a wave of heat pushed him back. "But the cabinet didn't fly open for any of us! This is different!"
"That's because he's the one," Mariana murmured, her face glowing in the golden light. "Can't you feel it? The air... it's singing."
"I don't hear singing, I hear static!" Aditya yelled, his fingers now inches away from the floating golden lyre. "It's buzzing in my ears! Guys, seriously, help me! Grab my backpack or something!"
"I'm trying!" Julian yelled. He lunged forward, grabbing Aditya's shoulder. "Gotcha! Now pull back—whoa!"
"Julian!" Chloe shrieked.
"It shocked me!" Julian gasped, stumbling backward and clutching his hand. "It felt like static electricity, but hot! Like a sunburn!"
"It's rejecting you, Julian," Mariana said, her voice eerily calm. "Leave him be."
"This is crazy!" Toby shouted. "Aditya, just close your eyes! Fight the urge!"
"I can't close my eyes, the light is inside my head!" Aditya cried out. His hand trembled as his fingers hovered just millimeters above the ancient strings. "It smells so sweet. Like a million crushed grapes. It's suffocating."
"Touch it, Aditya," Mariana urged, her voice low and hypnotic. "Accept it."
"Don't listen to her, Aditya!" Leo yelled. "She's gone full cult-mode!"
"I don't have a choice!" Aditya screamed. His skin made contact with the golden strings.
A resonant, deep chord echoed through the room, though Aditya hadn't even plucked a string. The sound was so loud it rattled the windowpanes and sent a physical shockwave rippling through the air.
"Ah!" Aditya roared, his body locking up as golden veins of light erupted from the lyre, wrapping around his wrists.
"Look out!" Julian yelled, diving over a desk as the shockwave knocked over a row of metal easels with a deafening crash.
"The floor!" Chloe screamed, leaping onto a chair. "What is that?!"
Thick, twisting vines of ivy and green grapes erupted from the gaps in the old wooden floorboards, climbing up the walls and wrapping around the ceiling fans in seconds.
"What's happening to him?" Toby cried, shielding his eyes from the blinding light. "His eyes! They're glowing!"
"Aditya!" Mariana called out, stepping closer to the storm of light. "What do you see?"
"I... I see..." Aditya gasped, his voice layering over itself, sounding like a chorus of voices speaking in unison. "It's a hill. A massive hill covered in vines. And a theater? There are thousands of people... they're screaming... they're laughing!"
"Is it the festivals?" Mariana asked eagerly. "The ancient rites?"
"They're wearing wooden masks!" Aditya yelled, his head tilting back as the golden veins spread up his neck. "They're tearing a bull apart with their bare hands! There's blood... but it's turning into wine! The music... the flutes are so loud! My ears are bleeding! Make it stop! Please, make it stop!"
"The Maenads," Leo whispered, his face pale as death. "He's seeing the ancient wildness."
"This is too much!" Julian shouted, trying to crawl toward Aditya. "He's going to blow a fuse! His heart is beating like a drum machine!"
"Don't touch him, Julian!" Sarah warned. "Look at the air around him! It's shimmering!"
"The lyre!" Chloe screamed, pointing. "Look at the lyre!"
The solid golden frame of the instrument was beginning to soften, turning into a glowing, liquid gold that seemed to flow directly into Aditya's palms.
"It's melting into his hands!" Toby yelled in disbelief. "How is that physically possible?"
"It's not melting, it's choosing him!" Mariana shouted back, her voice filled with pure ecstasy. "The vessel has been found!"
"It burns!" Aditya screamed, his voice cracking under the sheer strain of the divine energy flooding his nervous system. "It feels like fire in my veins! Get it out! Get it out of me!"
"Breathe, Aditya!" Mariana called out, her hands clasped together. "Don't fight it! Let the god flow through you!"
"I'm going to die!" Aditya roared.
"You won't die!" Mariana cried. "You're being reborn!"
With one final, blinding flash of golden-purple light, the lyre completely dissolved, absorbed entirely into Aditya's skin. A deafening silence slammed into the room as the light imploded, leaving behind only the smell of ozone and crushed grapes.
Aditya collapsed onto the floor, gasping for air as if he had been underwater for minutes. The vines that had covered the walls instantly withered, turning to fine gray ash that drifted through the air like snow.
"Is... is it over?" Chloe whispered from behind a desk, slowly lowering her arms.
"Is everyone okay?" Julian asked, groaning as he stood up and dusted off his pants. "My ears are ringing like crazy."
"Aditya," Mariana whispered, scrambling on her knees across the dusty floor until she reached his side. "Aditya, talk to me. Are you alright?"
"I..." Aditya muttered, slowly rolling onto his back. He coughed, a small puff of sweet-smelling vapor escaping his lips. "I think... I think I just saw the end of the world. Or the beginning of a really wild party."
"He's alive!" Leo cheered, letting out a massive sigh of relief. "Holy crap, he's actually alive!"
"Are you sure?" Toby asked, walking over cautiously. "His eyes... they aren't glowing anymore, right?"
"They look normal," Sarah said, leaning in. "But look at his right hand."
"My hand?" Aditya mumbled, lifting his right arm. It felt heavy, like lead. He turned his palm toward his face. Etched into the center of his skin was a faint, glowing mark. It looked like a stylized crown of ivy leaves woven around a simple wooden staff—a thyrsus. It pulsed with a dim, golden light, perfectly in sync with his rapid heartbeat.
"What is this?" Aditya panicked, trying to scratch at his palm. "Did you guys tattoo me while I was passed out? This isn't funny!"
"It's not a tattoo, Aditya," Julian said, his voice suddenly dropping all its casual banter. He slowly dropped to one knee, bowing his head. "It's the mark of the god."
"Wait, what?" Aditya blinked, looking around. "Julian? Why are you kneeling? Get up, dude, you're being weird."
"He's right," Leo said quietly, sliding to his knees as well. "The relic chose you. You're him."
"I'm who? I'm Aditya!" Aditya insisted, his voice cracking as Chloe, Toby, and Sarah all dropped to their knees around him, their heads bowed in absolute reverence. "Guys, stop! Seriously, this is incredibly creepy! Stop bowing to me!"
Mariana didn't stand. Instead, she knelt directly in front of him, bowing her head so low her forehead almost touched the dusty floorboards. When she looked up, her eyes were swimming with tears of pure devotion.
"He has returned," Mariana whispered, her voice echoing in the quiet classroom. "Dionysus has chosen our leader."

"Get up! Someone’s in the vents!" Mariana whispered urgently, shoving Aditya toward the dark wooden ladder."I'm going, I'm going!" Aditya hissed back, his wet sneakers squeaking loudly against the stone floor of the underground sanctuary as he scrambled upward. "But for the record, climbing a vertical ladder with soggy socks is a safety hazard!""Stop complaining and move!" Mariana urged, climbing up right behind him. "If that was one of Edward’s spies, they’re going straight to the administration!"Aditya threw open the heavy trapdoor, hauling himself onto the stage of the old auditorium. He groaned, rubbing his throat which still felt dry and scratchy. "Do you hear anything?""There!" Mariana pointed toward the double doors at the back of the auditorium, which were still swinging shut with a soft, echoing thud. "They’re heading up to the old wing! Come on!""Mariana, wait!" Aditya called out, panting as he chased her out into the dim hallway. "My lungs are still burning from earlie
Chapter 9: The Secrets of the Vine
"Come on," Mariana said, her grip tight around his wrist as she dragged him down the empty corridor of the old theater wing. "We can't stand out there in the open. Edward's probably still watching.""Slow down, Mariana!" Aditya complained, his voice still a raspy wheeze. "The nurse's office is literally in the other direction. I need a throat lozenge, not a brisk jog.""A school nurse can't cure divine frostbite, Aditya," Mariana replied, pushing open the heavy double doors of the school’s old auditorium. "We need to get you somewhere safe. Somewhere the Apollonians can't easily sense your frequency.""The school auditorium?" Aditya asked, looking around the dim, cavernous room. The rows of empty velvet seats looked like silent ghosts in the shadows. "What, are we going to hide behind the stage props?""No," Mariana said, marching straight onto the stage and pulling back a heavy, dust-laden curtain. "Under them.""Under them?""Help me lift this," she ordered, pointing to a brass ring
Chapter 8: Enter the Perfectionist
"I wouldn't waste my time," Sebastian said, turning on his heel. "Good luck clearing out your lockers next week. You're going to need it.""That is quite enough, Sebastian."The voice was like a bucket of ice water poured over the conversation. It was cold, sharp, and perfectly measured.Sebastian froze mid-step, his shoulders instantly squaring as he turned back around. "President."From the shadow of the main office corridor, a tall, impeccably groomed student stepped into the light. Edward Vance. His school blazer didn't have a single crease, and the gold emblem of the Classical Music Club pinned to his collar gleamed like a military medal."You shouldn't waste your breath on them," Edward said, his dark eyes scanning Aditya and Mariana with effortless disdain. "Lurking in the hallway to mock the less fortunate is beneath the dignity of our club.""Less fortunate?" Mariana's voice rose, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the strap of her bag. "Watch your mouth, Vance.""Am I

"Are you seriously telling me we're walking straight into the lion's den?" Aditya groaned, matching Mariana's brisk pace as they crossed the school’s central courtyard."It's not a lion's den, Aditya. It's just the administration wing," Mariana said, not slowing down for even a second."Same difference. One has sharp teeth, the other has bureaucratic red tape. Both will eat you alive.""Stop being dramatic. The PA system specifically called both of our names. If we don't show up, Sterling will use it as an excuse to suspend us, or worse, lock us out of the clubroom early.""Maybe that's for the best," Aditya muttered, stuffing his hands deep into his pockets. "I mean, think about it. If the club gets shut down, the lyre problem just... goes away, right? I can go back to being a normal, sleepy student who doesn't have to worry about magical biohazards.""It doesn't go away, you idiot," Mariana hissed, throwing a sharp glare over her shoulder as they reached the polished glass doors of
Chapter 6: The Melodic Resonance
"Mariana, tell me you see them too," Aditya whispered, his fingers still resting on the vibrating guitar strings. "Tell me I didn't just accidentally summon a pigeon army.""I see them," Mariana replied, her eyes wide as she pulled out a sleek digital tablet from her school bag. "This is incredible. They aren't even looking for food. They're completely synchronized.""They’re staring right into my soul," Aditya groaned, squinting at the nearest gray bird. "It’s creepy. Seriously. It’s like they’re waiting for me to drop a sick beat or something.""They are," Mariana said, her stylus tapping rapidly against the tablet screen. "The first chord you played was a perfect, resonant G-major. It carried a frequency of absolute peace. You essentially harmonized their nervous systems with the environment.""I did what now?" Aditya shook his head, his messy hair flopping over his forehead. "I just pinched some metal wires, Mariana. I didn't mean to perform a spiritual upgrade on the local wildli
Chapter 5: The Cult in the Classroom
"I’m not going anywhere with you," Aditya said, taking a step back and clutching the straps of his backpack. "And I'm definitely not ready for a lesson. I'm going to school. To sit in the back of the class, pretend I don't exist, and hope my ears stop ringing."Mariana smirked, shifting her weight as she blocked the metal gate of his apartment complex. "You really think you can just walk into a calculus class like this? Look at your eyes, Aditya. They're practically vibrating.""They are not vibrating," Aditya hissed, looking around the street to make sure his neighbors weren't watching. "It’s just a headache. A very, very weird headache.""And the mark on your hand?" Mariana pointed at his right palm, which he was currently trying to hide in his pocket. "Is that a headache too? Walk with me, Aditya. Unless you want to stand out here and let the morning commuters watch you sweat.""I'm not sweating," Aditya lied, though a bead of cold sweat was indeed trickling down his neck. "Where a
