Aditya stood outside the heavy wooden door of room 304, his hand hovering inches from the cold brass doorknob. He hesitated, taking a deep breath of the stale hallway air.

"It's just a club," he muttered to himself, trying to shake off the lingering chill from the previous afternoon. "They're just weird artsy kids. You're overthinking it, Aditya."

He grabbed the knob, twisted it, and pushed the door open.

"Welcome, initiate!" a voice boomed instantly.

Aditya jumped, clutching his backpack strap tightly. "Whoa! What the—"

"He has arrived!" Julian shouted, grinning broadly.

"Come on in, don't just stand in the doorway," Chloe said, waving excitedly.

Aditya stepped inside, looking around in complete bewilderment. The dusty, dim classroom from yesterday was completely transformed. The window blinds were drawn tight, and dozens of flickering candles stood on the desks, casting long, dancing shadows across the walls. In the center of the room stood five unfamiliar students, along with Mariana.

And all of them were wearing circular green wreaths made of leafy branches on their heads.

"Uh," Aditya said, pointing a finger at their heads. "Did I accidentally walk into a cult meeting, or is this some kind of Roman Empire cosplay convention?"

"Neither, actually," Julian said, adjusting the leafy crown on his messy blonde head. "We're the Art and Music Club. I'm Julian, by the way. The resident percussionist."

"And I'm Chloe," the girl with bright red glasses said. "Don't look so scared! We don't bite. Well, unless it's part of the performance."

"Don't tease him, Chloe," a shorter guy holding a small hand drum chimed in. "I'm Leo. Nice to meet you, dude."

"I'm Sarah," a girl leaning against a dusty desk said, giving a small wave.

"And I'm Toby," another guy added quietly, adjusting his wire-rimmed glasses.

Aditya's eyes slowly swept over the group before landing on Mariana, who stood in the very middle of the circle. She was wearing a crown of glossy, deep green ivy leaves. She looked different today—her posture was rigid, her face serious, and her eyes burned with an intense, focused energy.

"Mariana," Aditya said, raising an eyebrow. "What's with the headwear? Did you guys rob a florist on the way to school?"

"It’s tradition, Aditya," Mariana said, her voice smooth and measured. "To welcome a new member, we must honor the old ways."

"The old ways?" Aditya laughed nervously. "We're in a high school wing built in the nineties, Mariana. The oldest thing here is the cafeteria mystery meat."

"Just go with it, newbie," Sarah said. "It's fun. You like fun, don't you?"

"Yeah, don't be a buzzkill on your first day," Toby added.

"Right," Aditya said, slowly setting his backpack down near the door, though he kept his eyes on the exit. "So, do we actually paint or play music here, or do we just stand around looking like Julius Caesar’s personal fan club?"

"Art requires inspiration," Mariana said, stepping forward with a heavy, tarnished silver chalice held in both hands. "And inspiration requires a toast."

As she drew closer, a sudden, overpowering scent hit Aditya's nose. He gasped slightly, taking a half-step back. It was the exact same smell from yesterday—the incredibly sweet, rich aroma of crushed grapes—but now it was ten times stronger, filling the air like a thick, invisible fog.

"Is that..." Aditya squinted at the silver cup. "What is that smell?"

"It's our special welcome blend," Mariana said, offering the chalice to him. "A recipe passed down through generations of this club. Drink."

"I don't know, guys," Aditya said, waving his hands defensively. "I'm more of a Diet Coke person. Or tap water. Tap water is great."

"Oh, come on!" Chloe laughed, nudging his arm. "It's just grape juice and a bit of honey. We made it fresh this morning."

"Seriously, dude," Julian said, throwing a heavy arm around Aditya's shoulder. "Every single one of us drank it when we joined. It's a rite of passage."

"Does it have alcohol in it?" Aditya asked, his eyes darting between Julian and Mariana. "Because if I get caught drinking on school grounds, my mom will literally exile me to a boarding school in the mountains."

"It's completely non-alcoholic, Aditya," Mariana said, her eyes locked onto his. There was a strange, magnetic intensity in her gaze that made it hard for him to look away. "I promise you. It's just juice. Drink, Aditya. Join us."

"Drink! Drink! Drink!" the others began to chant, their voices low and rhythmic, clapping their hands to a steady beat.

"Come on, Aditya!" Leo called out, tapping his hand drum in sync with the chant. "Don't let us down!"

"One gulp!" Sarah shouted. "Just one!"

Aditya felt a cold sweat break out on the back of his neck. His rational mind was screaming at him. This is weird. This is incredibly weird. Just grab your bag and run.

But as he looked at their faces, they just looked like regular, eccentric high schoolers playing a harmless, overly dramatic prank. If he ran out now, he'd look like a total coward. He'd lose his easy extracurricular credits, and he'd have to spend the rest of the semester pulling weeds in the hot sun with the Gardening Club.

"Fine, fine!" Aditya said, raising his hands to silence the chanting. "If I die of food poisoning, my ghost is going to haunt this clubroom forever."

"Fair deal," Julian laughed, stepping back.

Aditya took the silver chalice from Mariana's hands. As their fingers brushed, he noticed her skin was shockingly warm, almost hot to the touch. He hesitated, looking down into the deep, dark purple liquid. It looked thick, almost shimmering in the candlelight.

"Bottoms up," Aditya muttered.

He raised the chalice to his lips and took a large, heavy gulp.

The taste was explosive.

It was sweet—so incredibly sweet it made his teeth ache—but there was a deep, earthy warmth to it that spread down his throat like liquid sunlight. It didn't taste like cheap, store-bought juice at all. It tasted like ancient, sun-ripened fruit, rich and heavy.

"Whoa," Aditya said, lowering the chalice and wiping his mouth. "That is... actually really good. But wow, it's strong."

"Finish it," Mariana whispered, her voice sounding strangely close, vibrating in his ears.

"Yeah, drain it, newbie!" Leo cheered. "Don't leave a single drop!"

"Go on, Aditya!" Chloe urged, clapping her hands. "Drink up!"

Caught up in the sudden rush of warmth spreading through his chest, Aditya tilted his head back and drained the chalice, gulping down every last drop of the thick, sweet liquid.

The moment he set the empty silver cup down on a desk, the entire room seemed to tilt.

"Whoa, okay," Aditya mumbled, stumbling backward a step. He shook his head, but his vision only grew fuzzier, the edges of his sight turning a warm, golden yellow. "Did... did the room just get really hot, or is it just me?"

"It's working," Mariana said, a satisfied, beautiful smile spreading across her lips.

"Wait, what's working?" Aditya asked, his voice sounding distant, as if he were speaking underwater. "Why is everything spinning?"

The flickering candlelight seemed to stretch and warp, casting long, fluid shadows on the walls. The dusty old classroom didn't feel dusty anymore. The air felt thick, heavy, and laden with the scent of summer air, blooming flowers, and crushed grapes.

"Time to play," Julian said, his voice echoing in Aditya's ears.

Aditya watched, his brain struggling to process, as the club members reached into their bags and under desks. But they didn't pull out normal instruments.

Chloe pulled out a long, double-piped flute that looked like it was carved from polished bone. Julian picked up a rustic hand drum covered in taut animal skin. Leo held a pair of bronze cymbals that gleamed brightly in the candlelight.

"What are those?" Aditya stammered, rubbing his temples as his head spun in slow, lazy circles. "Those aren't school band instruments. Is that a bone flute?"

"They are the true instruments," Mariana said. She didn't have an instrument. She just stood there, her eyes shining with a strange, golden hue in the dim light. "The ones that call to the heart."

"Guys, I think I need to sit down," Aditya said, his knees feeling like jelly. He collapsed onto a nearby wooden chair, which felt surprisingly soft and warm beneath him. "The juice... what did you put in that juice?"

"Just a little bit of inspiration," Mariana whispered, walking over to him and placing a warm hand on his shoulder. "Relax, Aditya. Let the music take over."

Julian struck the drum.

Thump. Thump.

The sound resonated deep in Aditya's chest, matching the rapid beating of his heart. Chloe blew into the double flute, producing a wild, reedy melody that sounded completely unlike any music Aditya had ever heard. It was hypnotic, spiraling through the warm air, pulling his consciousness deeper into a hazy, golden dream.

"Do you hear it, Aditya?" Mariana asked, her voice echoing in his mind.

"It's... it's loud," Aditya muttered, his eyes half-closed. "My chest feels like it's on fire. But, like, a good fire?"

"He is listening," Sarah whispered.

"The seal is weakening," Toby added, his voice filled with awe.

"What seal?" Aditya gasped out, his tongue feeling thick. "What are you talking about?"

Suddenly, a sharp, metallic sound cut through the wild music.

CLICK.

The music stopped instantly. The room fell dead silent.

"What was that?" Aditya asked, his head turning slowly.

The heavy, rusted iron padlock on the mahogany cabinet in the corner of the room was hanging open. A second later, it fell to the wooden floor with a loud, echoing clatter.

CREEEAK.

The cabinet's double doors slowly swung outward, completely on their own.

A brilliant, warm golden light poured out from the dark interior of the cabinet, cutting through the hazy, candlelit room.

Aditya squinted, his eyes widening in sheer disbelief through his drug-like haze.

Resting inside the cabinet, floating slightly above a velvet cushion, was a beautifully crafted, ancient golden lyre. The instrument was radiating a soft, pulsating glow, and the faint, melodic whispering Aditya had heard yesterday was now a clear, resonant hum that vibrated in his very bones.

"No way," Aditya whispered. "Is that... a harp?"

"It's a lyre," Mariana whispered, her

face illuminated by the golden light as she stepped toward the cabinet. Her hands were clasped together, her face filled with fanatic joy. "It has chosen."

Aditya hissed back, his wet sneakers squeaking loudly against the stone floor of the underground sanctuary as he scrambled upward. "But for the record, climbing a vertical ladder with soggy socks is a safety hazard!""Stop complaining and move!" Mariana urged, climbing up right behind him. "If that was one of Edward’s spies, they’re going straight to the administration!"Aditya threw open the heavy trapdoor, hauling himself onto the stage of the old auditorium. He groaned, rubbing his throat which still felt dry and scratchy. "Do you hear anything?""There!" Mariana pointed toward the double doors at the back of the auditorium, which were still swinging shut with a soft, echoing thud. "They’re heading up to the old wing! Come on!""Mariana, wait!" Aditya called out, panting as he chased her out into the dim hallway. "My lungs are still burning from earlie

"Come on," Mariana said, her grip tight around his wrist as she dragged him down the empty corridor of the old theater wing. "We can't stand out there in the open. I need a throat lozenge, not a brisk jog.""A school nurse can't cure divine frostbite, Aditya," Mariana replied, pushing open the heavy double doors of the school’s old auditorium. "We need to get you somewhere safe. Somewhere the Apollonians can't easily sense your frequency.""The school auditorium?" Aditya asked, looking around the dim, cavernous room. The rows of empty velvet seats looked like silent ghosts in the shadows. "What, are we going to hide behind the stage props?""No," Mariana said, marching straight onto the stage and pulling back a heavy, dust-laden curtain. "Under them.""Under them?""Help me lift this," she ordered, pointing to a brass ring

It was cold, sharp, and perfectly measured.Sebastian froze mid-step, his shoulders instantly squaring as he turned back around. "President."From the shadow of the main office corridor, a tall, impeccably groomed student stepped into the light. Edward Vance. His school blazer didn't have a single crease, and the gold emblem of the Classical Music Club pinned to his collar gleamed like a military medal."You shouldn't waste your breath on them," Edward said, his dark eyes scanning Aditya and Mariana with effortless disdain. "Lurking in the hallway to mock the less fortunate is beneath the dignity of our club.""Less fortunate?" Mariana's voice rose, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the strap of her bag. "Watch your mouth, Vance.""Am I

"Are you seriously telling me we're walking straight into the lion's den?" Aditya groaned, matching Mariana's brisk pace as they crossed the school’s central courtyard."It's not a lion's den, Aditya. It's just the administration wing," Mariana said, not slowing down for even a second."Same difference. One has sharp teeth, the other has bureaucratic red tape. Both will eat you alive.""Stop being dramatic. The PA system specifically called both of our names. If we don't show up, Sterling will use it as an excuse to suspend us, or worse, lock us out of the clubroom early.""Maybe that's for the best," Aditya muttered, stuffing his hands deep into his pockets. They aren't even looking for food. They're completely synchronized.""They’re staring right into my soul," Aditya groaned, squinting at the nearest gray bird. "It’s creepy. Seriously. It’s like they’re waiting for me to drop a sick beat or something.""They are," Mariana said, her stylus tapping rapidly against the tablet screen. "I’m not going anywhere with you," Aditya said, taking a step back and clutching the straps of his backpack. "And I'm definitely not ready for a lesson. I'm going to school. "You really think you can just walk into a calculus class like this? Look at your eyes, Aditya. They're practically vibrating.""They are not vibrating," Aditya hissed, looking around the street to make sure his neighbors weren't watching. "It’s just a headache. A very, very weird headache.""And the mark on your hand?" Mariana pointed at his right palm, which he was currently trying to hide in his pocket. "Is that a headache too? Walk with me, Aditya.
