"What is such a person doing in a place like this?"

"OMG! Do you think he is dead? Should we call The City Affair?”

“I just saw a twitch in his brow!"

I winced when the last lady screeched before forcing my eyes open.

“Oh my God! He is alive!"

“Stay back! I am not sure he is sane."

I blinked and stared back at the bright sky. What was I doing awake by this time of the day and why was I sleeping outside?

I struggled to sit up but winced when a sharp pain shot up through my left leg.

I felt my head spin as I struggled to understand my environment and the strange faces staring back at me.

I forced myself to sit up and a wooden cane rolled off my body to the floor.

Instinctively, my hand reached out to it and I grabbed it before supporting myself up.

I looked around and tried opening my mouth to talk when the people around me started to disperse till I was left alone.

“Hey you!"

“The young man with a cane!"

I furrowed my brow and narrowed my eyes at the middle aged couple marching towards me.

They looked like I owe them a huge amount of debt.

What did they want with me?

“What's your name?" The middle aged man asked the moment they were right in front of me.

“Draven. Why?"

“Draven. Are you married?"

“No."

“Good. You'll be getting married to our daughter at this moment."

What!

I blinked at them, tilted my head to the side and observed his face.

A human. I was in a human city. It all made sense to me now.

Were all humans like this? Irrational and out of their senses?

I barked out a laugh, ignoring the burns in my ribcage and the needle-like pains in my left leg.

“What? What's funny?" The woman beside him asked, her face twisted in an ugly scowl.

"Do you know who I am?” I asked, barely holding back a growl as I felt the edges of my vision darken.

Who did these humans think they were to order me around just because I was in a bad shape with a cane?

The couple looked at themselves for a minute and broke into a loud mocking laughter.

I felt my hand tighten around the handle of my cane till it threatened to snap.

I narrowed my eyes and increased my concentration but for some reason I could not read their thoughts.

Fuck my father for doing this to me!

How did he think that sending me here this way was a good idea when several other members of the clan would willingly want to take on the mission?

“What are you if not a…” The woman paused to size me up and suddenly I felt my cheek burn up with shame.

"...begger?” She concluded, a sly smirk on her red lips.

The man thrusted a large brown envelope at me but I just stared at it, too angry to move.

“Come on boy, take the document. We need to get her married real quick and you are just the perfect candidate." His lips parted in something that looked more like a snarl than a smile.

I looked down at myself and felt a white rage burn through me.

How did I not know that I was dressed in nothing but torn clothes, with no shoes on and a fake dirty body?

How was I a perfect candidate!?

“Take the damned documents! We know you need this, that's why you are here in front of the Marriage Bureau."

Wait! What?

I twisted my neck back and the strange feeling of shame washed through me anew.

I would surely strangle my father if I should get my hands on him.

What was he doing now? Laughing at the cruel fate he had single handedly set up for me? Going out to conquer more clans?

Fuck!

“You are wasting our precious time. We have a guest to attend to."

I wanted to yell at them to leave me the fuck alone but I only blinked at the large brown envelope which had the word “Marriage lincese" written boldly on it.

I might look poor and disabled now but only I know what I am. What if their daughter was the truly disabled one? And they didn't look like they were well to do either.

I can't imagine myself stooping so low to get married to a human, a disabled human at that.

“What city are we in?" I asked before I could think and watched both humans crunch up their noses in disgust.

“He doesn't even know where he is. So pathetic." The man scoffed.

“City X." The woman responded, her eyes narrowing at me.

“City X?” I repeated before touching my supposed pocket but there was not a dime.

How the hell am I to survive in a strange human city?

Looking down at the brown envelope, I swallowed, suppressing my pride as I asked. “Would you give me a place to stay then?"

I have got to start from somewhere if I really want to get the job done and give my father a piece of my mind.

They both hissed at me in unison, the disdain in their eyes growing a notch.

“Not until you take the papers." He pushed it towards my stomach.

I took it, despising the way my fingers trembled from the strange feeling of nervousness.

“..."

I watched the man lean in to whisper into the woman's ear.

“...we need a helping hand with chores especially now that Blair will be getting engaged to the son of the governor." She responded to her husband whispering with a loud voice, eying me.

I looked down at the now almost mangled envelope in my hand. I'll need to teach these humans a lesson the moment I am back to the original me.

“Take this.”

I stared down at the strange object in his hand before looking up at the man's frowning face with a frown of my own.

“What is this?" I asked and heard a collective gasp from them.

“Oh heavens!" The woman placed a dramatic hand on her forehead.

“You mean you don't know what a pen is?” The man asked, with wide eyes.

Whatever that means.

I thrusted the envelope back at him, too angry to react.

“If I don't see the woman I am getting married to, I won't consent." I forced the words out of my mouth.

I wouldn't mind committing to a human as long as she wasn't disabled just for the cause.

“Hmmm…you mean this?"

I heard a faint sniff the moment the couple separated and my eyes widened.

"ENOUGH!” My father barked, banging his hand on the arm of his chair. My eyes flickered towards him and suddenly rage coursed through my veins. "Give him the sword! Now!” He barked at the guard closest to him.I still sat on the floor glaring at my father. “No." The oldest council member chimed in as he stood to his feet. My head snapped towards his direction to see a strange flicker in his eyes as he prepared to challenge my father. “Why would you hand the sword of execution over to him when you have clearly declared him unfit?" “Sit down, Alaric.” My father ordered darkly, eyes blazing. “After you give us your explanation." Alaric retorted and a few hums of approval followed. My father, still on his feet, snarled at council member Alaric. "Are you challenging my authority right now?” There was suddenly a look of fear in the council member's face as my father made to step down.“No my King." He finally conceded before sitting back down but I could see he was itching to rebel

My fangs were still elongated and I had blood dripping from the corner of my wet lips while tears spilled from my eyes. My body began to quake and with shaky hands, I brought my bloodied hands off my head to look at them. These hands…These hands…my lips quivered and I was about to let out another howl of pain when I heard an almost noiseless squeak. My head snapped up and my eyes widened to see more than a dozen pairs of eyes staring at me. I jumped to my feet, my head whirling as the memory of where I was came back in.I was in the royal court. I looked at the eyes of the confused council members as the

I sank to the floor, my knuckles peeled and bleeding as my dried eyes stared blankly into the wall ahead of me.Occasional shivers ran through my spine as the forgotten memory from years ago flooded into my head. Suddenly I don't want to live anymore. I jerked at the loud shriek from the other side of the hallway. I saw it in my head before I heard it. Me in this exact position, covering my parted lips as a loud crash followed thereafter.“RUBY NO!" My father hollered. I clapped my hands over my ears to avoid hearing it but my mind kept replaying it along with the sound. Suddenly my eyes widened as another memory flashed through my mind. NO! I shouldn't be afraid, but I felt so gripped by fear that I couldn't get my legs to move. The moment I shut my eyes to accept my fate, I felt myself get thrown through the air and the door crashed open with a loud bang. I hit the stonewall and cried out as the pain rippled through me. • Lock him up

With a loud crash, I fell to the floor and blacked out only to feel a tap on my cheek and a deliberately careful voice. “Wake up my Lord." My lids fluttered and I groaned, shaking off the hand on my shoulder. I was suddenly holding on to something and I felt the need not to let go. "You can't keep holding on to her, my Lord. She needs to rest.”I felt my brows tightened as I snuggled deeper into whoever or whatever I was holding on to. “He doesn't want to let go, my King." The voice called out a little too loudly. At that, my eyes snapped open and my neck twisted in time to catch a younger version of my father walking into the room. There was a sudden dull ache in my head as a wave of nausea hit me. I blinked down at what I was clinging onto only to throw myself back and away from her. She looked skeletal, merely trying to drag in air into her lungs. Where was I? I bit my lower lip, not understanding who this sickly woman was. When her eyes slowly opened to look at me, I w

  • Human mate

I woke up to the metallic tang of blood in my mouth. Without opening my eyes, I reached out and knocked the goblet out from in front of me. It clattered on the floor, spilling out its content and when my eyes snapped open, my vision was a deep red blurry haze, my fangs thick and almost piercing into my skin. "He has gone feral!” Someone shrieked from the corner only to gurgle afterwards and drop to the floor. Without warning, my body jerked and I ran towards the place where the human slave laid and began to lap up her blood. The taste flooded through my taste bud but for some reason, I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it. This wasn't the flavor I was looking for. I sniffled the air around me and a familiar scent hit me even though it was vague. Making a sudden leap, I latched on to another human slave with the scent, slashed her neck and sank my fang into the open wound. On the first taste of her blood, I jumped back on reflex, a gag rippling through me.That was awful! • Eighty two

My lids opened slowly to the wooden ceiling of my room back in the castle and I shut my eyes immediately, an irritable sigh escaping my lips. “You are up." My father's deep voice made my eyes fly open and I struggled to sit up only to realize that I was strapped to my bed. “Let me go!" I hissed at him, my brows furrowed. My brain felt mushy, like there was something important I was forgetting. “You failed your mission." He said in a firm tone, his legs set apart as he folded his arms to show off his biceps. I frowned and my body went flaccid. What was he talking about? 'Your mission to retrieve the royal ring.’ An unfamiliar voice said in my head and I jerked, the bind biting into my skin at once. My eyes went wide as I looked around frantically, only for my father to walk towards me, place a hand on my shoulder and force my body to go calm."What was that?” I frowned up at him. He frowned back. “What?" “A voice in my head." “The djinn?" What djinn?"Djinn?” I asked hesit
