Alistair turned his back and, without a second glance, walked out of that room toward the freedom outside. Staying inside the Anderson residence was suffocating and, in his view, a terrible waste of time.

Not only Lisa Anderson—no, Woods—was letting herself be seduced by Edward Hunter’s false words, but also her father, Adam, whom Alistair had believed had at least some critical thinking and sound judgment.

‘Clearly, people can be terribly mistaken,’ Alistair thought.

“Mr. Woods!” he heard someone call out to him and turned, not believing his eyes. Maria was walking toward him, as if it were urgent. She looked back to make sure she wasn’t being followed and finally reached Alistair. “Mr. Woods, a word, please.”
