Chapter 10
Author: Oldwell
Elias knew he would only get answers by mentioning the marriage agreement.

Sure enough, Anthony’s attitude did a 180-degree turn. No wonder Remus didn’t have him do anything to the Bowen family yesterday. Anthony would’ve gotten into big trouble if he had.

“I see!” He chuckled. “To be frank with you, Eli, I’m not sure about Mr. Cosby’s identity either. A friend of mine asked me to help him while he’s in town. That's all.”

He couldn’t reveal it was his Temple Lord who gave the order.

Friend? Elias hummed. This friend must be powerful; otherwise, the Dragon Head himself wouldn’t be so subservient to Remus.

“Did this friend of yours stay in prison for some time?”

That must be the only way Remus had come to know this mystery person.

“Yes. They’re currently still in prison.”

Elias nodded to himself in understanding. Beside him, Brianne scoffed. “See? I told you Remus Cosby was just a lackey. He might just be the guy who scrubbed that other guy’s toilet for three years in prison!”

Elias agreed with her theory. Remus truly was just a good-for-nothing lackey.

“Hold up,” Anthony exclaimed in shock. “What did you say? Remus Cosby was in prison? For three years?”

Meanwhile, Remus was in a cafe having lunch with Abel Lawson. Abel was being incredibly respectful, all smiles and nods. He eagerly shoved the business contract to Kylie and had her sign it on the spot. The man was so happy with the deal he had even made Cox Corporation the exclusive supplier for all their projects.

“Mr. Cosby, will you attend Ms. Lotus’ press conference tonight?” Abel asked tentatively.

If Elias Bowen revered this man as a guest, he must have some influence, Abel thought. Remus might even be able to put in a good word for him when he saw Ms. Lotus.

Remus blinked. Jean Lotus was already here? If that were the case, he wouldn’t need to delay any longer!

“Of course I will!” he exclaimed.

His reaction won Abel over even more, as the man thought Remus might know Ms. Lotus personally. But he couldn’t express his awe right now, or it might ruin his plans. He’d make sure to greet Jean Lotus later tonight to get things going.

Abel then stood up. “Well, I’ll get out of your way now, Mr. Cosby. I hope to see you there tonight…and I’ll make sure to honor the deal with Cox Corp, so don’t you worry. Be seeing you.”

“I’ll see you out.” Kylie got up happily. The more deals she could land for work, the more secure her position.

As she was walking back into the cafe, she realized that her contempt for Remus had significantly decreased. The guy was easy on the eyes too. “That was some pretty good acting!” she praised with a smile.

Remus sipped his tea. “What do you mean?”

“Y’know, you going to Ms. Lotus’ conference. Someone like me wouldn’t even get an invitation, not to mention you. The Bowens wouldn’t bring you along either, since you’re not married to their daughter yet.”

Kylie truly believed Remus was putting up an act all this time. It’d be fine if Abel Lawson didn’t see Remus tonight. Every influential person from across the province would be attending, so not spotting Remus among the flood of attendees was highly likely.

Remus had really had it with Kylie. He set down his cup. “You’ve had your fun. I’m leaving now.”

Kylie rolled her eyes. “I forgot Miranda still needs you simping after her. Before you go, here’s some advice: everyone in the city knows how cold she can be toward men.

“It’s very likely she’s just using you as a temporary cover, so she doesn’t have to address her other suitors. So make sure you prepare yourself for a future after her. Save up some money, and make new connections. Don’t end up on the streets after she gets tired of you.”

If she didn’t find Remus very attractive, there was no way Miranda Bowen would. So it must all be some ongoing ploy.

Remus turned to leave without another word.

“Remember my advice!” Kylie called after him. “It’s for your own good!”

She followed him out the cafe.

Just then, two cars skidded to a stop before them. Eight burly men stepped out, all clasping bats and machetes. Their fierce, dangerous air made Kylie step back in fear.

Their leader was a bald man who stayed in the car. He was leaning out the passenger window lazily.

“Remus Cosby?” he asked.

“Yes. And you are?” Remus tilted his head curiously. Who were these people?

Before the bald man could answer, one of the men cried, “Are you blind? This is Bald Richard of Neptuna! How dare you disrespect him?!”

Bald Richard? The onlooking crowd stepped back fearfully, and some people walked away.

Kylie’s face had turned bone white. “Bald…Richard?”

Remus noticed that everyone was terrified of the man. He asked curiously, “Is he powerful?”

Kylie snuck him a look, answering softly, “He’s not just powerful; he’s the Dragon Head’s Team Leader in the underground world!”

Remus snorted in amusement. How outrageous were these people?

“What are you laughing at?!” one of the men demanded.

“Stop that and stay put!” Kylie hissed at Remus.

If Remus pissed these people off, there was no telling what they would do!

“It was nothing.” Remus bit his lip. He decided not to mess with these men because Anthony had treated him very well over the past few days. “What’s up?”

One of the hooligans raised his bat menacingly. “I’ll beat you to a pulp, fresh meat!”

“Stop!” Bald Richard suddenly said. He turned to Remus. “You’ve got some guts. Usually, people start kneeling and begging for mercy when they see me. If you kneel down and join me, I’ll show you mercy.”

“What are you waiting for? Kneel!”

“Boss treats us very well. Your only alternative is having your legs broken, kid!”

Kylie’s lips twitched at everyone’s encouragement. She wanted to warn Remus against acquainting with these people but stopped when she realized she could ask for his help once he was involved with the underworld.

“This could be your chance to avoid being a lifelong simp, Remus. Hurry up and seize it,” she quietly added.

Remus glared at her, then turned back to Bald Richard. “I can be one of your men, sure. But you better ask Anthony Mark first if he’ll take me under him.”

The moment he said that, the men turned silent.

Anthony Mark? The Dragon Head himself?

“That’s it! You’re dead meat!” one of the men roared, raising his bat once again.

Candace wasn't wrong. It was only through actual combat that you could truly gauge someone else's strength. These deities were theoretically at the stage of a Celestial Immortal in Darsia, meaning they should be on par with a Celestial Immortal. However, after actually trading blows with them, it was clear that their strength was significantly inferior to that of a Celestial Immortal. Their capabilities were more akin to those who had just recently become Celestial Immortals. To be precise, they were more comparable to a Land Immortal.Candace released another wave of demon energy, which caused the deities tainted by it to fall from the sky in large numbers. It was like flies in the Mortal Realm encountering poison. It wasn't even a matter of lacking the strength to fight back—the difference in power was simply too great. Candace was naturally dominating the battlefield.Candace aside, the other demons were also capable of taking on two or three opponents at a time without being a

This time, the remaining four deputies were prepared, but they could only defend themselves. The pressure brought by Roman was immense. They couldn't understand why Roman was only one stage above them. But they then also remembered that Roman was no longer at his peak and didn't have an avatar. At best, he should be equal to them in strength. How could he single-handedly overpower the four of them? That made no sense!Dawson had struck the deputy on the far right, who was forced to stagger backward, feeling the turmoil within his body. If he hadn't been on guard, he would have met the same fate as the other deputy. He was terrified and wanted to flee, but Dawson wouldn't give him the chance to. Once Dawson made his move, he showed no hesitation, charging at him.Roman single-handedly subdued the other deputies, while Dawson relentlessly pursued the last one. This deputy kept retreating, realizing that if things continued this way, they were mere sitting ducks. He quickly shouted,

Without any hesitation, Roman released his energy rapidly, rushing toward the border to face the deities head-on.Faced with the sudden attack, the deities were visibly taken aback. While they had worries, their concerns were primarily about whether they could safely retreat, not about the potential of a fight breaking out. In fact, it had never crossed their minds that Roman would make the first move.Yet now, Roman dared to charge at them by himself. Was he not afraid to die?But Dawson's reaction was different. As Roman set off, Dawson also released his energy and moved toward the border, focusing intently on the hundreds of deities ahead. His eyes was filled with fierce determination and the willingness to face death head-on.In fact, this was a strategy that had been planned ahead of time.Given the situation had reached this point, there was no way to avoid it. Amez wouldn't let Darsia go, and certainly not Halvor. Therefore, knowing Halvor's personality, he would have no ch

Under everyone's gaze, a figure emerged behind Dawson, towering and imposing. Dressed in an imperial robe and wearing a crown, his features were stern and commanding. When he spoke, his voice carried an overwhelming power that seemed impossible to resist, and the energy emanating from him was terrifying. It felt as if the weight of the heavens was pressing down on them. The deities couldn't help but wonder who this was. Why did someone this powerful still exist in Darsia?Dawson was the first to snap back to reality. He turned and respectfully said, "Emperor!"Roman gave a small nod and looked forward again. "You insignificant ones, kneel and listen to my words."Emperor? This must be the Underworld Emperor! The deities all showed expressions of fear. Could it be that Dawson wasn't the Underworld Emperor, but one of the ghost kings? How could a ghost king, who was on the same level as them, actually kill Micah? How was that possible? The hundreds of deities at the back were star

The entire place fell silent.Everyone had witnessed the scene, but no one could believe their eyes. Even though Micah had vanished, they thought it must be another trick, convinced there must be something more coming. The same applied to Dawson, who became even more cautious after that, worried that Micah might suddenly appear out of thin air to deliver a lethal strike. After all, Micah was one of the 12 subordinates under Halvor, a position equivalent to that of an immortal emperor or ghost king. Furthermore, Micah hadn't been through a grueling battle and was still in peak condition. On the other hand, first of all, Dawson no longer had his avatar and was thus no longer invincible. Secondly, his energy hadn't fully returned to its peak, and it was at about 80 to 90 percent right now.In such a situation, it was impossible that he could kill Micah with a single strike. So, Micah must have a trick up his sleeve.Everyone watched and waited. In the blink of an eye, 15 minutes ha

Micah scoffed and added, "Darsia has never been a forbidden place. I come and go as I please. Since you've decided to block the way, I'll take you on. Go ahead and make your move!"Hearing that, the hundreds of deities behind him admired him with eyes full of reverence. Although they were initially apprehensive, seeing him step forward gave them more confidence. This was exactly how a deputy deity should carry themselves.Meanwhile, the other five deities felt a pang in their hearts, realizing they should have stepped up.Although Dawson was imposing, they had the strength of hundreds of deities on their side. Losing might be embarrassing, but it wouldn't be fatal, and the potential benefits would far outweigh the risks. They regretted not stepping forward now.Dawson was stunned. It felt like Micah was considering going head-to-head with Dawson on his own. This was a choice only a fool would make. They had the advantage in numbers, and Dawson was wondering if he could at least ta
