Chapter 5
Author: Oldwell
This was the Bowen family’s butler, Mr. Anderson! He was the one who always received Abel in Elias Bowen’s house.

“Mr. Anderson!” Abel ran up to greet him. “What brings you here?”

“Afternoon, Mr. Anderson!”

“Good day, sir.”

Several other people piped up.

The butler didn’t spare them a glance. Instead, he walked up to Remus and said respectfully, “I apologize for all this hostility. I’ll make sure everything is settled accordingly here.”

He then turned to Kylie, barking, “How dare you insult and threaten Mr. Bowen’s esteemed guest?”

Kylie flinched, staring unseeingly at the ground in shock.

Beside her, the men looked around, confused. Elias Bowen’s guest? Wasn’t Remus an escaped criminal?

“Apologize to Mr. Cosby right now, or you’ll regret it!” the butler barked again.

Kylie’s face had paled drastically. In Neptuna, the Cox family was no match for the Bowen family. Their butler alone could sentence her to death, and no one could raise a finger in protest!

Kyle was at a loss for words and still in shock. She was about to sink to her knees.

“It’s alright,” Remus piped up. He wasn’t one for humiliating women. Plus, Kylie had promised him three favors. He could let this go.

He turned to Mr. Anderson. “What did you need me for?”

The old man nodded respectfully. “Mr. Bowen wishes to see you at his villa.”

Remus gave it some thought. He wouldn’t be able to go anywhere else today, so he might as well meet this guy again. “Alright.”

They turned to leave, missing out on the show of anger and frustration that played out later in the restaurant.

“What happened, Ms. Cox? You said he was a criminal, so why did Mr. Anderson just say he was a Bowen family guest?!”

“If something happens to us because of this, I’ll drag you down with me!”

“Did you take us for fucking idiots?!”

Kylie squealed as everyone turned on her. She was still in a daze, unable to understand why Remus had shown up there.

Abel suddenly said, “Calm down, friends.”

With a smile, he turned to Kylie. “I didn’t know you were acquaintanced with Mr. Cosby, Ms. Cox. Your company will get the contract for this project and all future projects. However, I have one condition you must fulfill.

“You must appoint Mr. Cosby as the middleman.”

“Miranda, this is Remus Cosby, the man who healed you. It just so happens that you two are engaged, too!” Elias said to his daughter after explaining all that had happened.

Elias’ father had told him that this young man had great power and could bring the family centuries of peace and prosperity. He hadn’t believed it at first, but after seeing him save his beloved daughter, he no longer had any doubt.

“No, he’s not!” Miranda cried. “I said I’d never marry anyone, and I meant it.”

She even glared at Remus, but Remus wasn’t one to back down.

“Don’t worry. I don’t plan on marrying you either.”

Why were all the women in his life like this?

“Why did you ask me to come here?” Remus turned to Elias.

“Uh…”

Elias was at a loss for words. Yes, his daughter had always been cold and on the defensive side, but why was Remus like this too? Didn’t he have some sense of respect for them?

Brianne quickly stepped in to diffuse the tension. “Can’t we invite you over just to chat, Remy? You and Miranda are engaged, which means we’re family now.

“Oh, by the way, did your parents come with you?”

Remus saw how considerate and respectful she was being, so he treated her the same way. “I grew up as an orphan, my only caretaker being my master who has yet to return from his three years of travels. That’s why it’s only me right now.”

Brianne frowned just the slightest bit. Orphan? That meant he wasn’t an heir or part of some rich, influential family. “How did you spend these three years, then? Why didn’t you come back?”

Remus grew grumpy at that too. “He made me wait for him in prison.”

Prison?

No one good came out of prison! And he was the one engaged to their beloved daughter?

“Miranda, have you talked to Ben yet? He stayed by your side during all the months you were sick.” Brianne turned to her daughter.

Miranda simply nodded in assent and said, “I’m going back to my room. I’m tired.” Then, she went upstairs.

Brianne then said to Elias, “Dear, why don’t you go to the study to prepare for the company’s business plans? I’m sure you need all the preparation you can get since it’s for Ms. Lotus’ prospective investment.”

Elias picked up on his wife’s intentions to be the bad cop and kick Remus out of their lives. Elias had thought he’d be a prospective match for her daughter, but hearing his background had completely changed his mind.

His father had probably gotten things mixed up.

Remus could easily understand what was happening, but all he could think about was how coincidental this all was. Ms. Lotus? Jean Lotus?

“Mrs. Bowen, is this Ms. Lotus that you’re talking about Jean Lotus from the Lotus family in Centurio?”

Brianne’s lips curled up in a slight sneer. “Yes, but don’t you worry your head about it. And please, don’t call me Mrs. Bowen. We’re not that close.”

Remus frowned. Women were really fickle of mind, no matter their age.

With a smack, Brianne placed a card on the coffee table. “There’s at least a million dollars in there. Take it and leave. Don’t show up or be associated with my family from today onward, and never mention the engagement with my daughter ever again. Understood?”

She couldn’t let cheap bums like him ruin her family!

Anger bubbled up in Remus’ chest, but he quickly calmed down upon remembering one of his master’s teachings: never lower yourself to the level of idiots.

“It’s you guys that I don’t want to be associated with. Also, I don’t blame you for being poor, but being poor and still trying to act all high and mighty? You need to get that checked. Keep the money. Think of it as a gift from me.”

He then turned to leave the house. But not more than a minute after he did, it started to rain. It was the mark of a thunderstorm.

Brianne was still fuming. How dare that runaway criminal call her poor? She was the matriarch of Neptuna’s most influential family! If that man weren’t a convict, she would’ve slapped him in the face for saying such things!

“You have ten minutes to find a way to leave!” she ordered. “Don’t let me find you here later!”

Remus murmured in assent and pulled out his phone to call a friend.

Elias walked down the stairs, having heard everything that had happened. He had thought to step in if Brianne went too far. They couldn’t get too involved with hooligans, especially with their status. “Are you leaving, Remy? I can have Anderson drive you.”

“No,” Brianne huffed. “He was calling for a ride. Didn’t you see?”

Elias didn’t respond to that. Sure, everyone saw him as Neptuna’s richest man, but no one knew that his wife was the boss at home. He shot his wife an unhappy look. Why did she have to go and get upset over some kid from the streets?

Brianne crossed her arms and sneered. “That friend of yours must be from prison, yeah? I bet they’re crazy rich, seeing as one million dollars was nothing to you.”

A criminal with a three-year prison record wouldn’t have any friends comparable to them.

Just then, Mr. Anderson walked in to announce, “Sir, Madam, the Dragon Head is outside right now.”

The shattered energy from the cage scattered, resembling countless sharp blades that sliced through the space."Watch out!""Retreat, quickly!"The deputies' faces changed dramatically as they shouted, quickly retreating. They were already filled with trepidation before, knowing that battles between the main deities were extremely fierce, but they never expected it to reach such an extent. When Silas and Amez gave their all just now, the shattering energy that swept through the air made them feel like it was the end of the world. It reminded them of the most difficult moments, when they first achieved enlightenment and ascended to immortality, knowing that even the slightest misstep could lead to complete failure."You don't need just three moves—if you can defeat me, I'll give you 100 moves, a thousand moves, or even infinite time. If you're not at your peak, I'll let you go back and recover before you make your move," Silas said slowly.Although he said that, he certainly wasn

The energy from Silas and Amez relentlessly collided against each other. Their energy, dissipating and escaping, created colorful lights in the space around them, extending for thousands of feet with them at the center. It made the battlefield surprisingly dazzling."You're not as strong as I thought. Being called the world's top main deity is just an empty title," Silas mocked as he continued releasing his energy.Amez was expressionless, but inside, he was seething with anger. It was true—Silas was indeed much stronger than he had anticipated, which inevitably made him feel weaker in comparison.Of course, the most crucial point was that other deities were watching the fight. If he couldn't deal with Silas quickly, it would make it difficult to convince his people to remain loyal to him later. Moreover, Silas' words were like a psychological attack."I'm just getting started!" Amez slowly said. "I'm going to show you what it means to be the world's top main deity. With just three

The two streams of energy finally collided, and in an instant, the space was torn apart into layers."Run!""Step back!"The deities from both sides spoke at the same time. They anticipated that the fight between Silas and Amez would be astounding, but they never imagined it would be this terrifying. It was clear to them that being caught in their energy would result in serious injury or, worse, death. The deities from both sides, nearing a thousand in number, quickly put some distance between themselves and the battlefield. Initially, they were able to maintain their formation, but at this moment, they scattered, fully on alert. However, their facial expressions didn't show much intensity. Instead, they appeared to be somewhat entertained. After all, it was not every day they got to see two main deities engage in battle—something that hadn't happened for hundreds of years.Silas, realizing his initial strike was unsuccessful, released even more energy, launching another attack.

Their responses made Silas lose all hope. What they were saying seemed reasonable, but the underlying meaning was obvious even to a fool. If someone under Silas' command didn't follow his orders or couldn't carry out your will, it was a form of betrayal. Saying anything else was pointless. It was over for Silas. Without the three Dominions' help, there was no way to win this battle. No matter how many deities were behind him, they were nothing more than a useless bunch, unable to contribute to the fight, so the only outcome awaiting him was death.Should he consider betrayal as well? But that wasn't possible. The issue wasn't simply about betrayal. The most important thing was that Silas could never accept having another authority besides himself. Just as there couldn't be two suns in the sky, deities couldn't serve two leaders.Even if Amez accepted Silas now, he would still find a reason to deal with Silas in the future.Forcing the three Dominions to return to Silas' side wasn

Although Silas appeared ready to risk everything, his true intentions weren't in his actions but rather in his words. He first mentioned that deities lived on resilience, then clearly stated that surrendering would disturb their Hearts of Alchemy. He even insisted that he would not pressure them and declared he would fight by himself, saying he would battle to the very end and never surrender. With these statements, it was clear that he was implying the deities could not surrender and that they should stand firm and fight back alongside him.His goal was quite simple—if the deities behind him were swayed, he wouldn't have even the slightest chance of survival. However, if they all firmly stood by his side, he might still have a chance to live.As expected, after hearing Silas' words, a deity couldn't hold back their impulse and stepped forward."I will also fight to the very end, as I am this land's deity! Since there was no way to make Silas surrender, Amez was trying to find a way to sway Silas' deities. Once they gave in, Silas would be left in a weak position and wouldn't pose much of a challenge.Amez's words were spoken straightforwardly, but the more direct they were, the more they could pierce into the Dominions' hearts. As expected, the three Dominions still wore anger on their faces, but none of them were saying anything. They appeared to be holding back and keeping their emotions in check, which was a noticeable change from earlier, when they were openly cursing Amez.More importantly, the hundreds of deities behind them were looking at each other, and upon closer observation, Amez could see that some were beginning to waver. After all, the two nations shared the same origins, and their deities had connections with one another. Moreover, Silas just mentioned that Amez once served under him. In other words, it would not be as mentally burdensome if they ended up serving und
