CHAPTER 1: Awakening
"Master, please… open your eyes."
The urgent whisper sliced through Ethan's unconsciousness like a dagger. Before he could respond, a thunderous roar shattered the air.
Boom!
He jolted awake—heart racing, lungs burning—just as a blast of flame erupted meters from where he lay. Grass scorched to black beside him, and shards of glowing stone rained from the sky. His vision spun wildly.
What the hell?! This isn't my dorm…!
Above him, the sky was a vibrant, impossible shade of blue. Clouds drifted lazily, utterly indifferent to the chaos below. A plume of smoke curled from a crumbled marble structure not far away. The smell of burned moss and blood mixed with the sweet scent of wildflowers.
He blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of his surroundings. Something warm and clawed suddenly grabbed his shoulders.
"Master! Ethan—stay down!" a familiar voice commanded, urgent and melodic.
His eyes focused. A woman's silhouette knelt above him, haloed in sunlight. Curved ebony horns swept back from her brow. Silver-white hair framed a striking face dusted with obsidian scales. Her crimson eyes blazed with both worry and restrained power.
"…Celestia?" Ethan croaked, his throat raw and voice filled with disbelief.
She let out a shaky breath, relief flashing across her face. "You're awake." Celestia managed a half-chiding smile. "You really know how to make an entrance—collapsing right as that damn artifact blew half the temple sky-high."
"I… what?" He tried to sit up—too fast.
The world tilted. A jolt of nausea gripped his gut. Celestia's claw-tipped hand pressed against his chest, steady and cool. "Easy," she murmured.
"You passed out the moment you touched the Arcane Godslayer," she said, eyes scanning him as if to ensure he was intact. "Then the guardian statue exploded. I dragged you out before the whole Temple of Ascension came down."
Ethan coughed, the taste of smoke still clinging to his tongue. "So… not a dream, then."
Celestia arched an elegant brow. "No headset, no controller, and unless your dorm room has started spontaneously combusting, I'd say welcome to the real Astrael."
His stomach flipped—not from dizziness this time, but from realization.
This was real. The Temple of Ascension, the Godslayer gear, Celestia… all real.
Memories flooded back—standing atop the altar in-game, claiming the ultimate reward after a grueling three-day dungeon run. There'd been a blinding flash—and now he was here.
Trapped? No… Transformed.
He looked down at himself. Midnight-blue armor encased his body, every plate etched with glowing runes that pulsed softly in time with his racing heartbeat. A greatsword was strapped across his back, its blade shimmering with latent power. Ethan flexed his fingers—the metal gauntlet groaned under the pressure. This body wasn't an avatar. It was his.
"But… why here? Why me?" he whispered, equal parts awe and fear.
Celestia cast a wary glance toward the still-smoking ruins. "The Arcane Godslayer didn't just grant power. It tore something open—a veil between worlds. You didn't just log in… you were summoned."
Ethan sat in stunned silence, trying to process Celestia's words. Before he could speak, a distant howl echoed through the ruins.
Celestia's eyes narrowed. "Scavenger wargs," she said tersely, rising to her feet and offering him a hand. "They've caught the scent of blood. We don't have much time."
Still dazed, Ethan grasped her forearm and pulled himself up. His knees nearly buckled, but Celestia's hold was firm and reassuring—just as it had been countless times in the game. A second howl rippled through the air, closer now.
"Can you walk?" Celestia asked, urgency sharpening her tone.
"Y-yeah," Ethan managed, though it wasn't entirely true. Every muscle in his body ached like he'd been thrown from the sky.
Celestia thrust a leather waterskin into his hands. "Drink. Fast."
The water was shockingly cold and pure—a blessed relief against his parched throat. Ethan gulped greedily until Celestia snatched it back. "No time to drain the whole spring, my lord. Move!"
They sprinted across the clearing just as three hulking shapes burst from the treeline—snarling, wolf-like beasts the size of bears, with matted fur and glowing eyes. Ethan's instincts screamed at him to run—but another part of him stirred, something deeper and more primal.
The power of the Godslayer within him awoke.
He yanked the greatsword free. The metal sang as it left the sheath, and despite his lack of real-world combat experience, the blade felt right in his grip—almost as if it knew his hand. He barely had time to plant his feet before the first warg lunged.
"Together!" Celestia hissed, her obsidian wings flaring open. "If they lunge, we strike as one."
"Wait—I've never actually fought for real—!" Ethan's protest died on his lips as the beast leapt for his throat, jaws gaping.
Reflex took over. Ethan swung in a broad arc.
Steel met flesh with a wet thunk. A spray of dark blood splattered the grass. The lead warg yelped, crashing sideways into a tree trunk, and did not rise again.
Celestia was a blur of motion, diving into the remaining two like a storm of claws and fire. Ethan caught glimpses of her in action—a crackling whip of black flame in one hand, fingers of the other hand splayed as she unleashed a blast of concussive force. One warg crumpled under her onslaught, and the last tried to circle behind her—only to be knocked off its feet by a sudden lash of Celestia's tail. An instant later, all three beasts lay motionless amid the trampled wildflowers.
For a moment, the only sounds were Ethan's ragged breathing and the crackle of a nearby burning bush. They stood panting in the carnage, adrenaline coursing hot and bright.
"I… I just killed something," Ethan said, his voice barely above a whisper. He stared at the blood on his sword in disbelief.
Celestia turned to him, her expression unreadable. "And you're still alive." Then, more gently, she added, "This world isn't a game anymore, Ethan. Every breath here is earned."
He nodded numbly, trying to calm his racing heart. The blade in his hand still shimmered, warm with some inner power. As horrifying as the encounter had been, one truth cut through the haze of his fear: he wasn't dead. He had faced danger… and survived.
Celestia stepped closer, concern edging her crimson eyes. "We should find shelter. There's a town not far from here—a place to rest and plan our next move."
Ethan exhaled shakily and wiped the sweat from his brow. "A town sounds good," he managed, still trembling from the fight.
They sheathed their weapons and turned toward a narrow path leading into the dense forest. Just before they slipped into the tree line, Celestia cast Ethan a sideways look, her lips curving in a wry smile. "Perhaps next time, my master might ask before touching ancient god-killing relics?"
Despite everything, a fractured laugh escaped him. "I'll… I'll put it on my to-do list."
"Good." Celestia chuckled softly as they vanished under the canopy's shade. "You're going to need a very long list."
Together, they disappeared into the forest shadows, leaving the smoldering ruins of the temple behind. In the distance, thunder rumbled, and the stench of blood gradually faded into the sweet aroma of moss and foliage.
But deep beneath the shattered Temple of Ascension—far below the earth where no light had ever reached—something stirred.
A massive black seal, long buried under layers of ancient warding magic, pulsed faintly… then cracked. From the darkness behind it, a pair of burning violet eyes snapped open, glowing with ancient, malevolent amusement.
A low voice echoed in the abyss, serpentine and smooth—like velvet drawn over a dagger's edge.
"So… our little Dragon Emperor has finally arrived."
A ghostly smile curved across unseen lips—jagged and mocking in the darkness, and beneath it, just for a breath, something older than malice, that might almost have been longing.

The Dragon Emperor of Another World: Awakening of a Legend CHAPTER 171: The Voice in the Roots
The hand hung in the air above the breach, and the whole dying sanctuary seemed to lean toward it.Ethan felt it in his own chest—the pull, the invitation, the terrible gravity of that violet-veined palm reaching for him through the dark. Every instinct he had screamed two contradictory things at once: run, and go to her. The second was not his own. He was certain of that, the way he was certain of his own name. Something in that gentle, grieving voice had reached past his fear and laid a thumb on some hidden scale inside him, and was pressing, very softly, toward yes.So he did the only thing he could think of. He looked away f

The Dragon Emperor of Another World: Awakening of a Legend CHAPTER 170: Awakening Beneath the World Tree
The World Tree did not look like a thing that could be buried under. After days of riding east, the convoy crossed a bridge of living root into the forest of Illyanfir, and the air itself changed—thicker with magic, the winter light going soft and green beneath a canopy older than empires. And then the trees parted, and Ethan saw it: a colossus of silver-white bark wider than a castle keep, rising impossibly high before it unfurled into a vault of gold and green that held up the whole eastern sky. Around its roots sprawled the elven city, spires grown from living wood, bridges of braided vine, lanterns hung like captured stars. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

The Dragon Emperor of Another World: Awakening of a Legend CHAPTER 169: The Road That Watches
By the time Carosso's white walls rose out of the winter haze, Ethan had stopped feeling the cold. He had given his cloak to Seraphina two days back, on the road down from Shadow Peak, and he kept it wrapped tight around her now where she rode before him in the saddle—and still, every so often, he felt her shiver against his chest with a chill that had nothing to do with the season. He would tighten his arm around her, and she would murmur that she was fine, and they would both pretend to believe it.She was not fine. He had seen the veins beneath her jaw that morning, when she thought no one was watching. They had been black, and they had been climbing.

The Dragon Emperor of Another World: Awakening of a Legend CHAPTER 168: Ashes and Aftershock
Celestia had carried fallen comrades out of a hundred battlefields, and she had learned long ago that the worst moment was never the fighting. It was the silence after—when there was no enemy left to hate, and nothing to do but count what the victory had cost.Dawn came grey and reluctant over Shadow Peak. The roots that had borne them up from the deep had withered the instant their feet touched open ground, curling back into the broken earth like fingers drawing away from heat. Where Theros's lair had been, there was now only a collapsed scar in the mountainside, a throat of rubble exhaling thin violet vapor into the cold air. Celestia stood at its edge with Seraphina cradled against her chest, and she did not trust the silence at all."Lay her here." Eileen's voice was a rasp. The mage had a strip of cloth pressed to her nose, dark with dried blood, and she m
