Reed groaned and tried to get comfortable but that single movement made him feel like he had been crushed by a truck.
His eyes flew open, showing a white ceiling right above his head. He stared in confusion, wondering where he was.
"Welcome back to the land of the living." A voice said and a smiling nurse came within his line of eyesight.
"I will just go and get the doctor right away."
Then he heard footsteps and the door opened before it closed shut.
"Why am I in the hospital?" He wondered.
The next moment, the memories of the previous night flooded in and then he remembered the humilaition he had faced at Selene and her lover's hands.
To make matters worse, he had run into those thugs that wanted to carve him up for organs.
Suddenly, he heard a loud, "Ding!"
Reed remembered that after he had been hit with by the car, just before he had fallen unconcious, he had also heard that same alarm tone.
He looked around for the phone which had just pinged, but then he heard a female voice that seemed to be in his head.
[Reed Hawke, Welcome to the Super Debt System.]
"Binding request initiated."
Another debt?? Reed wanted to jump out of the bed and scream.
He was sick of debts, he had almost died because of one and now it seemed they were following him everywhere.
"Is this what hospitals are doing now? Forcing people to take loans to pay for these exhorbitant hospital bills? Well, let me just die then." Reed cried out.
[You have it wrong, this system has been issued to only you.]
The strange female voice spoke again.
"I don't wanna hear it!" Reed exclaimed and pressed his hands on his ears to stop whatever next the woman had to say.
"I don't want to hear it!" He repeated.
He felt a tap on his arm and he flinched and opened his eyes and saw the nurse standing with a doctor by his bedside and looking at him in concern.
"You don't want to hear what?" The nurse asked gently.
"You don't hear it?" Reed asked. "You don't hear the woman speaking?"
The nurse and doctor exchanged uncomfortable glances.
"Is your head okay? How do you feel?" The doctor asked.
"I feel pain all over my body." Reed answered.
"Do you know your name?" The doctor asked.
"Reed Hawke." Reed answered.
"Do you remember what day it is?"
Reed narrowed his eyes and thought for a second.
"I was knocked down on Thursday evening, so I guess today is Friday."
The doctor look relieved and nodded.
"I have some news, Mr Hawke. The accident really affected your spine and it has been damaged." At Reed's pale face, the doctor quickly continued.
"Fortunately, you are in the only hospital that is able to treat you. I would advise however that you permit us to start the surgery immediately or else you are in danger of being paralyzed from waist down."
"Waist down? How much will the surgery cost?" Reed gulped.
“It's two million dollars, and unfortunately we can’t proceed without payment authorization.” The doctor said quietly.
Reed wanted to laugh aloud.
$2,000,000? He didn't even have 2 cents to his name. He looked at his legs under the thin hospital sheet, they felt like heavy, useless logs.
A single tear rolled down his cheek and Reed wondered why the car that hit him had not just killed him. It felt like life was no longer worth living, he was struggling already how was he supposed to cope if he was paralyzed?
[Ding!]
[Host, if you bind with the system you will have enough money for your surgery. Refuse and spend your life in a wheelchair watching Selene and Lucas get away with humiliating you.]
Reed felt bitter at the thought of watching Selene prance all around on television with her new lover and his fist tightened.
"Why don't we give you some time to think it over? I will be back in thirty minutes" The doctor interrupted Reed's thoughts. Then he and the nurse left him alone.
When he was alone, Reed closed his eyes and thought about what the voice had said then he opened his eyes.
The mention of Selene’s name was like a spark in a room full of gasoline. The pain in his back was nothing compared to the gaping hole she had left where his heart used to be.
"System?" Reed whispered, his voice shaky.
[Yes, Reed Hawke.]
“What’s the catch?” Reed continued in the same tone of voice, fearful of what he was about to get into.
[The catch? You will never be free of debt, But you can wield an unbelievable amount of power and bring your enemies to their knees.]
Reed closed his eyes again, realized he had nothing to lose, then he said. "Bind it."

[Ding.]
Then a screen suddenly appeared right above his face.

[The host is allowed to spend money on anything they wish but they get an extra boost when they spend money in pursuit of revenge or when given missions by the system.]
[Any more questions the host has can be anwered in the FAQ section.]
"Wow!" Whispered Reed, still in disbelief at the number of zeros on the scene.
He saw that there were a lot of other segments on the screen and he promised himself that he would go back and have a look at the fine print.
As someone who had been a victim of predatory loaning practices, he was still very cautious about what the system was offering him.
The door opened and as Reed looked towards the doctor and nurse, he half expected them to point at the screen flaoting above his head.
But they did not seem to notice.
"Have you come to a decision, Mr Hawke." The doctor asked.
"Yes doctor," Reed said, still slightly hesitant. "I would like the surgery to start as soon as possible."
Reed still did not belive that the money was real, he wanted to believe that the system was real but he told himself that it was just a figment of his imagination. He did not want to be disappointed so he brought his expectations down to zero.
He only hoped that the voice he was hearing was not because he had hit his head too hard when the car ran him over.
"Nurse, could you have someone form accounting come and process the payment please?"
The nurse glanced at Reed and thought that he did not look like he could afford to pay the bill, but she sealed her lips and went out. Soon, the nurse back with a man in a tie who held a portable payment portal.
Reed placed his card on the scanner, but the whole time his heart was in his mouth and he could not breathe.
He thought of how humiliating it would be if it turned out he had really just hit his head and the voices he was hearing were not real.
"Payment accepted." The man from the account's department said after a heart stopping moment.
Reed froze looked up at him with his mouth open. He had expected to be told that his balance was insufficient, but it had worked.
But it was real, it was actually real.
The nurse looked impressed with Reed, she had thought that even though he looked handsome, his hands were calloused and rough, he did not look like the heir of a wealthy family.
Only the heir of a wealthy family would casually pay a $2 million dollar hospital bill.
"Nurse," The doctor turned to her. "Please, prepare everything so that Mr Hawke can have his surgery immediately."
A few minutes later, Ethan was being wheeled into the theatre and hours later when he woke up, he was back in his room.
He opened groggy eyes and was welcomed by the screen floating in his face.
[Welcome back host.]
[You have been granted 10 Power Points thanks to your first use of the system, you can use it to strenghten your body.]
Reed noticed the red notification and accepted.
He felt a soothing warmth going from his head, down his body until he could feel it tingling in his toes.
[New Mission]
[Host, you need a suitable place to stay. The more ostentatious, the better the reward you will get.]
[You have just twelve hours to accomplish this mission, or else you will lose the system.]
Reed's eyes widened.
He started to wonder if it had been a good choice to accept the debt system because now he was being ordered to do things and threatened.
Where was he going to find ostentatious lodging in just one day.
For that matter, how was he supposed to get out of the bed in the first place?
"Ho… how am I supposed to do that? I can't even walk."
[Health Status; Repaired.]
Reed's brow furrowed. repaired?
He had just gotten surgery, it would take months and painful theraphy for him to be able to work but the system casually just said his body was repaired?
At this point, even though Reed acknowledged that the system was powerful, it was just hard for him to readily accept everything it told him.
However, when he wiggled his toes, he found to his surprise that they were moving freely without even a hint of pain.
He swung his feet over the side of the bed and when they cooperated, his eyes widened.
Reed pinched himself to be sure he was not in a dream and when he yelped from the self inflicted pain, a smile slowly climed his face.
He thought about all the people who had hurt him and his grin widened. It seemed he was going to have a good time with this system.
And he had the perfect idea of what kind of luxurious place he would live in.
He picked his clothes and wore them before sneaking out of the hospital, then he headed directly to the Golden Gate hotel where he worked as a cleaner.
This time, he walked in through the main entrance instead of the servants entrance like he usually used.
The doorman watched as Reed approached, his eyes taking in the details of his clothes. Usually he would not let someone like him in but there was something striking about Reed, and he found himself holding the door open.
Reed stepped up to the counter.
The receptionist barely glanced at him.
“I would like to pay for the Golden Penthouse, for a year.” Reed said calmly

Selene pressed up against Reed, her body molding against his in a way that was calculated and deliberately provocative. Her perfume was cloying and heavy, nothing like the sweet floral scent that he had found captivating during his naive years, but now her scent was completely suffocating and repulsive."Don't act like you don't miss me, Reed," Selene purred, leaning closer as her voice dropped into the sultry, persuasive tone that had once made him weak. Her manicured fingers trailed up his chest over his silk lapel, her eyes dark with false promise and manufactured vulnerability. "I know you still think about me when you're alone. I know you still want me. You can't just erase everything we were to each other."At her touch, Reed turned into a statue of solid rock, his eyes glinting with a dangerous, red-hot fury. His entire frame went rigid, his jaw clenching so hard the muscles jumped beneath his skin with barely contained rage. The attempt at subtle seduction was a cheap perfor

Your performance in that third act was absolutely breathtaking!" one high-profile actress exclaimed, her eyes wide with unfeigned awe. You delivered an absolute masterclass!""I have to say, the emotional chemistry between you two was utterly electric," an influential studio producer added, his sharp gaze shifting back and forth between Miyu and Reed with deep

"Mr. Lane, what do you think of my suggestion?" Cole started eagerly, his voice carrying a subtle note of desperation that he tried desperately to mask beneath a veneer of professional confidence. He leaned forward in his leather executive chair, his knuckles white as his fingers gripped the polished edge of his mahogany desk. When nothing but a heavy, unreadable silence stretched over the line, Cole pressed on with persistent, calculated urgency."You must consider that you are relatively new to the intricate background of Ruby City," Cole offered smoothly, attempting to assume the posture of a seasoned mentor. "You don't yet know the right players to align with or the hidden pitfalls of this market. Let me act as your premier guide. I know this territory inside and out, every political channel, every financial lever, every family lineage. I know precisely who to trust and who to avoid. With my regional power and your capital, you could accomplish so much more than you ever imagined.

"Father, we've been completely fooled!"Lucas stormed into his father's grand estate, bypassing the household staff and heading straight toward the private wing. His footsteps were heavy and frantic, echoing off the high marble walls of the hallway like a drumbeat of pure fury.Without knocking, he slammed the heavy double oak doors to the executive study open with a deafening crash. He stood in the entrance, his chest heaving violently, his face flushed red with unbridled anger.Cole Scott, shocked by his son's completely uncharacteristic, explosive entrance, snapped his head up in surprise. His sharp, dark eyes narrowed as he set down his fountain pen. He had been quietly reviewing confidential corporate ledgers and mapping out his next market acquisition when Lucas burst into the sanctuary like a destructive hurricane."Control yourself, Lucas," Cole warned in a low, dangerous growl, offended by the lack of discipline. "What is the meaning of this outburst?"Instead of answering v
