Moments later, Eva and Ben stepped into the parking lot.

Not far off, Greg was already there, standing calmly as he waited for his chauffeur. The driver had dropped him off earlier and gone to handle an errand Greg had assigned.

After the wedding that never took place, Greg simply returned to the life he had always known before meeting Eva—a quiet, refined, and undeniably luxurious one.

The sun hung low, casting long shadows across the concrete.

Ben smirked as he unlocked his sleek car. “Let’s get out of here.”

Eva slid into the passenger seat, smoothing her dress with practiced ease.

Ben got in, started the engine—and shot out of the parking space without hesitation.

As he swung sharply into the lane, a loud honk rang out—but it was too late.

Scrape!

Metal dragged harshly against metal as the side of Ben’s car clipped the front bumper of another vehicle.

The car lurched to a stop.

Silence followed.

Then—

“What the hell?!” Eva snapped, her composure cracking.

Ben swore under his breath. “Relax. It’s nothing.”

“Nothing?” she shot back, staring at the damage. “You just hit that car!”

The other driver was already stepping out, furious.

“Are you blind?!” he shouted.

Ben scoffed, pushing his door open with forced confidence. “Calm down. I said I’ll handle it.”

The tension in the parking lot thickened, voices rising as the argument began to draw attention.

Then—

A low, smooth engine hum cut through the noise.

A long, sleek black car glided into the lot and came to a perfect stop beside Greg.

It wasn’t just expensive—it commanded attention without trying. Immaculately polished, tinted windows, its presence carried a quiet authority that went beyond wealth.

The rear door clicked open from the inside.

Greg’s assistant stood beside the car, one hand resting lightly on the door frame, her posture composed and assured.

“Sir, everything is ready,” she said, her tone calm and respectful.

Greg gave a single nod.

Not far from them, Eva’s voice faltered mid-sentence.

She had turned.

Ben followed her gaze—

—and both of them froze.

Even the driver they had collided with seemed to forget his anger for a moment, his attention drifting toward the car.

Eva blinked. “What… is that?”

Ben frowned, his eyes narrowing. “Probably a rental.”

But there was no confidence in his voice.

The assistant glanced briefly in their direction, her expression cool—almost faintly amused.

“Shall we?” she asked.

“Yes,” Greg replied.

Without another word, he stepped forward. The assistant held the door open, and he got in smoothly. She followed after him, closing it with quiet precision.

The car pulled away almost instantly—smooth, controlled, effortless.

And then—

There was silence!

Eva stared after it, her brows knitting together.

“That... that didn’t look like a rental.”

Ben scoffed, though a slight crease formed on his forehead. “Come on. You really think he became rich overnight?”

Eva hesitated.

The image replayed in her mind—the assistant’s poise, the car’s presence, the way Greg had carried himself.

There had been nothing forced about it.

Still—

She shook her head, more firmly this time.

“No. That’s impossible.”

She had known Greg her entire life. To her, he had always been nothing—struggling, and insignificant.

There was no way he suddenly owned something like that.

No way!

Ben seized on that doubt immediately. “Exactly,” he said, nodding. “It’s all acting. The idiot borrowed the car, and hired someone to act… anything to save face.”

Eva exhaled slowly, relief creeping back in.

“Yes,” she said, her voice steadier now. “That has to be it. That fool is just desperate… trying to impress me after everything.”

Her lips curled in disdain. “I’d rather deal with a complete psycho than ever go back to that shameless, pathetic loser!”

Ben chuckled and Eva joined him.

Soon, both of them were laughing—loudly, dismissively—as if what they had just seen was just fake and it meant nothing at all.

Without another glance, they turned away from the direction the car had gone and got back into their vehicle.

The other driver had already left, deciding the minor damage wasn’t worth the delay. He had a meeting to get to—and no time to waste on them.

You wouldn’t even get past the gate.”Claire folded her arms, her voice dripping with contempt. “You’re clearly desperate. Trying to impress us with empty confidence? It’s not working. Scott’s expression hardened, the anger in his eyes cooling into something far sharper—disappointment edged with pride and disdain. “Then hear me clearly,” he said, his voice dropping into a cold, cutting tone. “If you insist on marrying him, I will never reckon with him as my son-in-law!” The words fell like a final judgment. Alina’s breath caught in her throat. Greg, however, didn’t react. He stood where he was, calm and unbothered, his posture loose, his gaze steady. No anger. No pleading. No sign that the rejection meant anything to him at all. Scott’s eyes narrowed further. That composure—so quiet, so unmoved—irritated him more than open defiance ever could. “And after everything you’ve just said,” Scott continued, his voice rising again, “I’m even more convinced that this… this embarrassment will not be allowed to stand!” “Father—” Alina tried to step in. “Enough!” The single word cracked through the hall like a whip. Scott turned sharply toward the entrance,

Scott’s hands clenched at his sides, knuckles white, his face twisted with disbelief and rage. “Do you realize what you’ve done, Alina? You’ve married a man who—by every measure—is a loser! No status, no wealth, no connections! Have you thought about the social consequences of this… this disaster?” Deg laughed, a sharp, derisive sound that cut through the room. “Seriously? This is your husband? Look at him! His clothes wouldn’t even hit five hundred dollars, he has the demeanor of… of a clerk! Alina, what on earth were you thinking?” Laura, barely holding back her giggle, added, “He looks like someone scraping by day to day, not someone who could ever lift our family’s standing. You’re… throwing yourself away!” Melissa, their grandmother, narrowed her eyes behind her spectacles, shaking her head with audible disdain. “This is a disgrace, child. Do you understand the scandal you’ve invited? Marrying beneath yourself, beneath this family? It’s… shameful.” Alina’s hands tremble

The car glided up the long, tree-lined driveway, tires crunching softly against the gravel. Alina leaned forward slightly, her eyes lighting up as the familiar silhouette of her family’s mansion came into view. After everything—the fear, the chaos, the danger—today was supposed to be different. Today was meant to be joyful. She had counted every hour since leaving the courthouse, imagining this moment… the look on her family’s faces when they saw her—standing beside Greg, her husband. “Are you nervous?” Greg asked, his voice calm as his hand brushed lightly over hers on the console. Alina shook her head, though the excitement in her smile gave her away. “No… just excited. They’ve been asking me to bring someone home for years. I can’t wait for them to meet you… to see that I’ve already taken that step.” Greg gave a faint, controlled smile. “Then let’s make sure it’s a good first impression.” Alina let out a soft laugh, leaning slightly toward him. “It’ll be more than that,

The woman looked disheveled, her breathing shallow and uneven, and her skin ghostly pale under the streetlight. “Hey,” Greg said gently, crouching beside her. “Can you hear me?” Her eyes fluttered open, glassy and unfocused, as if she were looking through him rather than at him. “…don’t leave me,” she whispered. “I’m not going anywhere,” Greg assured her. “What happened?” She shook her head weakly, each movement seeming to drain her further. “They… gave me something. I… I don’t feel right…” Greg’s jaw tightened. That was all he needed to know. “Don’t worry. You’re coming with me. I’ll get you somewhere safe,” he said firmly. She didn’t resist as he helped her fasten the seatbelt, guiding her gently while she struggled to stay conscious.
