Meanwhile, at the mansion, the guards were all rounded up while Henry leashed them with the cane that he had in his hands.

“Worthless piece of junk... You were all beaten up by that worthless fool and you dare to come here and spill thrash?“ He thundered at them with so much fury in his voice.

“We are telling the truth. He wasn't the one that did this to us, it was that strange Lady.“ They replied.

“Get out of this place right away.“ He thundered at them with so much fury in his voice.

Meanwhile, they were already preparing for dinner while for the first time, Lady Willow was arranging the table herself.

Why are you doing this Mother when there are a lot of people that are ready to do it just at your order.“ She inquired.

“I'm just happy that fools are out of our lives and too are finally getting someone that deserves you.“ There was a smile hanging on her face.

“But why seven seats?“ She noticed since they always had just seven.

“I invited Vincent over for dinner.“ She noted and she was about to object but Lady Willow stopped her for spitting out a single word out from her mouth.

“This is the opportunity that you have always wanted and you have to seize it.“ She replied.

She could already feel her heart beating hard against her chest as though it was going to burst through.

Soon, a man walked into the dinning hall, having an air of grace, his suit glittered in the ray that came from the light as he walked gradually towards Lady Willow, took her hands, and kissed them.

“That's what I am talking about.“ Lady Willow said, shaking under her booths.

Walking towards Rachael, he kissed her on her forehead and held her hands.

“Now that fool is out of your life we can always be together just as you had always wanted.“ He kissed her once again on her forehead

Rachael could feel the strange sensation forcing itself through her blood stream. It made it feel like she was still cheating on someone.

Her instincts wanted her to push Vincent away but she forced her hands into a clutch. There was no way that she would do that, not now that she needed him most of all.

“I heard that Rachael's cooperation is about to be removed from the list of the project.“ Henry noted and Rachael threw a stare in his direction.

There was a tense air throughout the room. The grip around Rachael's hands tightened. This was the least time that she wanted to talk about this.

Something in her told her that if John was still there, it would have made things way too easy for her.

Once again, a deep sigh escaped from her lips. There was nothing that she could do at this moment..

With the announcement of the removal of the names, it meant that they had already lost. There was only one way that she could not even dare to think of.

But no matter how hard she tried not to, the possibility still streams into her head multiple times.

"What if she was able to get herself into the academy!" She thought, still shaking the thoughts off from her head herself.

There was no way that was possible! Her company was still a middle class company and only the best companies in the city could gain access into the place.

The only means that was possible for them was if they had been chosen by one of the top five companies as an escort. But all the top fives apart from Armstrong's family had already made an announcement for who they wanted.

Thinking about such at this moment wouldn't even be a miracle, it was just way too impossible.

"I think that I can get your company into the academy!" Announced. Vincent.

Everyone in the hall grasped instantly knowing exactly what that meant. It would mean that he would be doing the impossible.

"There's no need for you to try and lighten up our mood Vincent! We already know what is up here!" Rachael quickly cut in.

"And who said that I was joking Rachael! I mean everything about what I just said! I love you and I'm ready to do anything possible for you!" He Replied.

Their hearts almost stopped beating. Rachael stared right into his eyes, hoping that wasn't a joke.

"But how would you do that!" Henry quickly stepped in with his eyes bulging.

Vincent could see how much every single one of the family members respected him and his face suddenly formed into a smile.

He could feel the hot gaze of their respectful glances piercing through his skin at the moment and the pride filled smile on his face broadened even more.

"As you all know, the Armstrong family is the last to choose an accompanist. For that,I got a secret Intel that they organized a party for! The best performing company got to become an accompanist and with my father's connection, laying my hands on the ticket was a walk through the park!" He smiled.

"I can't believe this  Vincent! You are really a God sent Son-in-law unlike that punk that I am pretty sure would be wasting his life away at this point!"

*********

John stood over staring back at Ariel. The air around her was suffocating as his eyes could not escape her bulging bulge.

"Thanks for saving my father's life!" She appreciated as they stepped off from the car and John snapped back to his consciousness.

Before he laid a magnificent building that was worth millions of dollars.

“Do you like it?“ He heard her say while he continued to stare at the magnificent building.

“Like it? It's a sight to behold.“ He replied with a smile on his face.

“Then it's yours. I will get the paperwork ready as soon as possible.“ She replied to him.

Wanting to object to it, she was fine with her decision and he knew that there was nothing that he could do about this now.

“Thanks.“ He appreciated her.

“No, I should be the one appreciating you.“ She responded.

“And my father wants to appreciate you, especially tomorrow at his party.“ She informed him and he nodded his head.

Ariel continued to walk and from the way that her heart rose on her chest, John could easily tell that she wanted to say something else.

"Is there something that you want to inform me about?" John suddenly added.

She paused, licking her lips and staring into his eyes seductively.

"I want to ask you! How about being my boyfriend for the forthcoming Academy?" She inquired, thinking that John knew about it already.

Everyone in the city did. John was taken about by the way the question came. Her boobs pushed upwards suddenly and he could barely utter a word as his face broke up suddenly into a sweat.

But he didn't want to give an immediate response.

"I'm going to think about it!" He was able to fight his urge and finally replied.

Ariel nodded as they finally made their way towards the car but there was someone leaning over the door smoking a cigarette

“And where do you think that you are heading to?“ He responded staring right into their eyes.

“And who are you?“ She replied with a frown hanging on her face.

“Get off the way right away or I am going to make sure that you pay for this.“

“Miss. Mia of the new age group isn't it.“ He responded with a chuckle.

Revealing his teeth that had been blackened by tobacco.

Walking slowly towards them, he made a strange sound with the whistle that he had in his hands as soon, a dozen thugs were already behind him.

The rate of her racing heart increased then time faster than it was already.

“What are we going to do now?“ She said under her breath but it was loud enough for him to hear.

“Just stay behind me Miss Mia, I am going to take care of them.“ He replied but that only got her even more confused than she was already.

“But.“ She was about to say but he would not allow her to spit out even a single word from her mouth as she went swiftly behind him.

“Guess the first person to die has already chosen himself.“ The lips of the gang leader broke into a dark smile.

JOHN'S POVThe announcement spreads through the Academy before anyone officially confirms it. That's how things work here. Rumors travel faster than notices, and by the time anything is posted officially, everyone already knows.I see it in the way instructors glance at me during training, then at Divo, then back again like they're mentally measuring the distance between us. Assistants linger near our stations longer than necessary. Conversations die when either of us enters a room, then restart in quieter, more careful tones. The tension becomes something physical, settling into my shoulders like weight I can't put down."You feel it too, right?" Thomas says during a break in training, leaning against the wall beside me. "The whole place feels like it's holding its breath.""I feel it," I confirm."How are you doing with it?" he asks."Trying not to run out of breath?" I say.He gives me a look that says he doesn't believe me. I don't push back on it because honestly, he's right not

Chapter 82JOHN'S POVThe Academy hums with quiet anticipation the next morning. I notice it the moment I step into the dining hall. Conversations pause when I approach, heads turning briefly before looking away. Then the talking resumes in softer tones, more careful than before.I grab food and sit with my team. Lawrence looks up as I settle into my seat."Morning," he says. "Slept at all?""Well enough," I lie.Maya studies my face with that direct way she has. "You look tired.""I'm fine," I say, taking a bite of bread I don't particularly want.Thomas leans in slightly. "It's not just you noticing things today. Something feels off this morning. Like everyone's waiting for something."He's right. The shift in atmosphere is subtle but very noticeable throughout breakfast. People step aside for me without meeting my eyes, creating a path that feels less like respect and more like distance. Like they're already positioning themselves away from whatever is coming."Did something happen

JOHN'S POVThe tea house sits quiet when I arrive, tucked into the eastern corner of the meditation garden just as Elder Ming described. It's a small structure, traditional in design, with paper screens and a low table inside. Steam rises faintly from a kettle already set out, two cups placed precisely across from each other.Elder Ming is already there, kneeling on a cushion with perfect posture. He looks up as I enter and gestures to the cushion opposite him."John. Thank you for coming.""Thank you for the invitation," I say, removing my shoes at the entrance before stepping inside.I settle onto the cushion, feeling awkward in the formal position. Elder Ming seems completely at ease, like he was born to sit this way.He pours tea for both of us with deliberate care. The tea flows from the pot in a smooth line, filling each cup to exactly the same level. He watches my hands as I accept the cup, observing how I hold it, whether I understand the proper etiquette.I hold it with both

Chapter 80JOHN'S POVTraining is interrupted when an instructor redirects me to a different station than the one I am assigned. I'm halfway to my designated workspace when he calls out."John, not that one. Over here."I stop and turn. He's pointing to a station in the far corner, away from where the rest of my team is setting up."I was assigned to station three," I say, checking the board where assignments are posted."Change of plans," the instructor says. His tone is casual but his eyes are firm. "Station seven needs someone. You'll work there today."I glance at station seven. The tools there are modern, unfamiliar in their design. Digital monitors, electronic diagnostic equipment, instruments that require power sources and calibration. None of the traditional tools I normally rely on are present. When I hesitate, the instructor gestures for me to move. "Is there a problem?""No," I say, because what else can I say?I walk to station seven and examine the setup more closely. Eve

JOHN'S POVThe failure of another participant spreads through the Academy before noon. I don't see it happen, but I witness the aftermath in the corridor when the person is escorted past us by two officials. The participant is a young man I recognize from the obstacle course. He'd struggled through it but finished. Now his eyes are fixed on the floor, his shoulders hunched inward like he's trying to disappear. His team stands frozen in place against the wall, watching him pass.No one steps forward. No one speaks. No one offers comfort or solidarity. The space around him empties too quickly, participants backing away like failure is contagious. Like getting too close might infect them with whatever inadequacy caused him to wash out.I stay where I am, not backing away but not approaching either. Just watching as he's led down the corridor toward the administrative building. Toward whatever process removes failed participants from the Academy. When he's out of sight, the corridor stays

  • Chapter 78

JOHN'S POVI wake with a tightness in my chest that does not fade, I try shaking it off as I run through the usual morning routine but even as I move through the dorm corridors toward the trial hall, the feeling still stays, like a rock that isn't ready to move. Something about today feels different. Heavier. The air itself seems to press down, or maybe it's just me in my head. Groups gather in low clusters along the pathway, watching each other more than they speak. Conversations stop when I pass. Eyes follow my movement. I keep walking, not acknowledging the attention that my presence is drawing. I hate it. The trial hall is larger than the conference rooms we've used before. High ceilings, stone walls, rows of chairs arranged theater-style facing a central examination area. Observers are already seated - officials, family representatives, other participants waiting their turns. When I step into the room, one of the evaluators signals for me to approach. She's a woman I don't rec
