The officer paused. After which a burst of laughter escaped from his lips. A poor peasant walks into the place and orders him around.

"Which of the mental health institutes did you escape from young man? So that we can send you back to where you rightly belong.

Or do you prefer the cuddling hands of your marker instead? We could easily do both for you!" He added.

However, when Mazzel didn't bulge, the anger surged up to his neck.

"I'm giving you one last chance to leave this place or you will be as good as dead!" He foamed.

"I'm afraid, but I cannot leave without Mr. James!" Mazzle repeated the words calmly.

Anger surged through Ferad's brain causing them to bulge. Even the high officials would not dare to walk into that place and command authority.

"You dare to threaten an official in his domain? You must seriously have a death wish!" He noted, his brows weathering in rage

"I'm going to make you regret ever coming here!" He thundered.

A dozen guards had already surrounded him, their weapons fastened into their hands.

They clashed.

Weapons against Mazzle's hands and strikes initiated even before they could think of cocking their guns.

Blood mixed with sweat and tears dripped to the floor and screams of agony filled the halls in an instant.

The frown on Ferad's face instantly deepened. Rage flaring off from him in excess.

"Bunch of useless officers. Do I have to do anything myself?" Farad stepped out from behind his table, rolling his sleeves upwards.

He brought his cell phone to place a call. Army tanks filled up the place and the whole area was soon under a thick sage.

"This would be a warning to you, never to mess with an officer again."

"But since you would be dead in the next few seconds, this advice would only be useful in your next life!"

The threats weren't enough for Mazzle to bulge for an instant. His eyes still curled in the most relaxed manner.

"The Eastside system has fallen deeper than I expected!" He shook his head.

Ferad flared up angrily. Eastside has always been seen as a relatively lesser version when compared to other bases in the country and it always irked Ferad in every wrong way, pushing all his batons.

"Death will be too generous for you!" He growled.

"Such a grand welcome. For the first time, I must say that I'm proud of your work!"

Farad would recognize that voice even in his dreams. The commander in chief and the man who had given him his first barge.

Farad had always looked up to Darius and the war God as the source of his inspiration. The war God he had only heard of in rumors but Darius, was close by and always on the news, even though they had only seen him once in their lifetime.

His heart pounded and raced with thoughts. 'Had the commander finally recognized his work and decided to see him himself?' The thoughts caused butterflies in his belly.

But something made him more happy. The fact that the commander who is known to be very strict was a sure ticket for Mazzle's death.

It would take so much paperwork and due process if he wanted Mazzle dead. However, the commander could do that with only a wave of his fingers.

When the commander noticed the fleet of men shattered all over the floor and groaning in pain, his expression darkened.

"Commander... We are so happy to see you around.

Unfortunately, we have just a little problem at the instant.

This poor peasant threatened and attempted my life and he needs to be kept in his..." His eyes were blurred out by a sudden slap even before he could finish the statement, confusion flooding the door of his mind.

"What have you done!" The always-collected general was frantic.

He ran off quickly to where Mazzle stood, kneeling and bowing before him all at the same time.

"God of War, I'm very sorry for the behavior of my subject. Please punish me!" The commander pleaded with shaky hands.

"God of war?" At that instant, Ferad's brain seemed to not be processing things properly.

Fear crept into his brain as he stared at Mazzle. The possibility that this very young man could be the God of war still beating him.

And what would the God of war want to do with James? A total nobody

Apart from the fact that the God of War was currently at the borders, his coming to the city could never be so quiet.

With the insurance in his mind, Ferad stepped forward, his shoulders raised.

"If I can prove that this young man is not the God of war to the general but a nothing imposter, it's going to increase my reputation and the commander would facilitate my promotion!"

"Commander. I regret to inform you but you must be making a terrible mistake!" Farad was so sure of this proposition.

While the commander tried to stop Ferad, he would not take the hint, explaining the events that had unfolded earlier.

"So as you can see Commander. This man is nothing but a fraud. I'm sure he must have made it appear so appealing!" Farad was so proud when he was done with his speech, expecting applause but it only came from Mazzle.

"It's because of people of your nature that the military and para-military are seen as cruel instead of protectors and keepers of peace. And if you continue to live, the notion will never die!"

Mazzle instantly shot a blow at Ferad's stop, liquidifying all his eternal organs and blood poured out from all the holes in his skin.

He dropped dead, and fear seized the hearts of everyone present. The blow looked like a child's play and someone was dead already.

The commander was shocked to his bones. He had only seen the God of war in pictures and this was the first time seeing him in action.

Everyone dropped to their knees, shaking like they had caught a cold.

The spiral tunnel took them down slowly, like an elevator made of light and shifting energy. There were no walls you could actually see, and it felt less like moving through real space and more like going down through layers of memory itself."This doesn't feel real," Kira said, gripping Eren's wrist tight to keep her balance."It's not exactly real," Eren said back. "We're moving through the Drift system itself now."Elina stuck close behind them, her eyes huge as she tried to wrap her head around what she was seeing. The hallway wasn't made of metal or stone. It was built from tangled signals and data pulses, making a path through the actual framework of the Drift. They went down for almost a minute before light started spreading out ahead of them. The feeling of solid ground came back under their feet as they walked into a room so huge that the ceiling just disappeared into darkness above."Look up there," Elina whispered.Thousands of lights sparkled in groups and patterns like st

The reflection just sat there for a few seconds, totally still and clear. The black mirror's surface didn't move at all, but you could feel this weird electric buzz filling up the room. Eren stood right in front of it, not even fazed by his own face looking back at him."That's not just some regular reflection," Kira said under her breath, walking up slowly. "It's actually looking at you."She could feel this pressure building up in her ears and some strange vibrating under her feet. This wasn't just some random thing they'd found. It was like some kind of control panel, way more complicated than anything they'd run into in the Root or Vault rooms.Elina walked around the edges of the room, trying to scan the thing with her gadgets, but all her stuff just died without any warning."My equipment won't do anything near this thing," she said. "Whatever it is, it doesn't want us recording it or figuring it out."Eren lifted his hand toward the mirror, stopping just a couple inches away. T

The hills spread out like old bones across the north side of the valley, sharp ridges of rock and rusty metal from old fights that time had eaten away. Eren, Kira, and Elina moved carefully through the area, keeping their speed steady but careful."Still nothing from anybody," Kira said quietly, looking back for like the hundredth time. The air felt weird around them, not from being up high but from something invisible pushing down on everything. Every few minutes, Elina stopped to check if anyone was following them, but her gear still wouldn't work right."Whatever was guarding the Root place is still here," she said. "Like some kind of jamming that hasn't gone away yet."They got to the top of a hill that looked down at a narrow canyon filled with the leftover junk from old Freeman supply routes. Busted cargo stuff and twisted metal framework was scattered everywhere, what was left of a transport line that used to connect Freeman's northern bases."I know this spot," Eren said, look

The air felt different when the door closed behind them. They were cut off from the room where Eren had taken his test. Outside, everything looked the same—cold, quiet, covered in thick clouds and Freeman's heavy silence. But something big had changed. When Eren walked forward, the land acted different around him. There were no shakes or things you could see, but Kira felt it like something huge finally clicking into place after being broken for years."You're different now," Kira said, looking at him hard.Eren didn't look older or tired from whatever happened in that test room. But his eyes had something new in them that wasn't there before. Not just knowing things, but carrying something heavy. The kind of knowledge that makes you see everything differently."I feel more like me," he said simply. "More than I have since this whole thing started."Kira nodded. She got it. Whatever happened during that test, he picked it himself. No point worrying about it now. If he changed, it was

The newly opened hall stretched into darkness ahead of them, its walls smooth and solid. No lights marked the path, no signs or symbols, only that single word carved above the entrance: Convergence. The air inside felt warmer than the room they had left behind, like the temperature was changing to match their presence.Eren walked first, his steps calm and sure against the stone-like floor. Under the surface, a faint current seemed to pulse, like the pathway itself was alive."This feels different," Kira said quietly, following close behind him."The whole place is responding to us," Elina added, checking her equipment. "Or maybe just to Eren."They moved deeper into the hall, which started to slope downward in a slow spiral. The drop was so exact and steady that it mixed up Elina's sense of direction. The tunnel never changed in width or height, but the feeling in their bones got heavier with each step.

They walked quietly through the dark, using just the blue glow from their gear and what was left of Elina's scanner. The ground ahead looked all torn up and empty, like nobody had cared about it for years. "This place gives me the creeps," Kira said, watching where she stepped around loose rocks. "Something really bad went down here." "Yeah, it's totally dead," Elina said, looking at her readings. "Freeman used it for testing stuff way back, but they never put it on any maps or anything." Eren was walking in front of them, moving like he knew exactly where he was going even though he'd never been here before. Ever since they left the Root place, he'd been acting different—not bad different, just like he was listening to something the rest of them couldn't hear. "How do you even know which way to go?" Kira asked, jogging to catch up with him. "I honestly don't know," Eren said. "It's like someone stuck a GPS in my brain, but instead of directions, it's just feelings about which w
