Chapter 52 – The First Battlefield
The horns sounded before sunrise.Kael opened his eyes.For a moment, he didn't move.Then another horn sounded.This one was closer.Aric entered the tent, already wearing his armor.“They're here.”Kael sat up.“How many?”“Too many to count from the hill.”Kael grabbed his sword and followed him outside.The sight made his stomach tighten.Across the wide valley stood the Royal Army.Thousands of soldiers covered the plains.Their banners moved in the cold morning wind. The mountain shook again.Kael struggled to stay on his feet as another wave of dark energy rushed through the shrine.The broken Fourth Seal floated above the ground.Pieces of ancient stone hung in the air, surrounded by black smoke.Then the darkness escaped.It rushed through the cracks in the mountain like a living thing.Kael's Shadow Core burned."Garran!" he shouted.The ancient warrior looked toward the darkness."This is not the shrine's power."Kael's eyes narrowed."Then what is it?"Garran's expression became grim."The Void."A loud roar came from beneath them.The entire mountain trembled.Malrec stood in the middle of the chamber, watching the darkness spread.He looked almost pleased."You have no idea how long we've waited for this."Kael raised his Shadow Blade."You'll pay for this."Malrec looked at him."Not today."Dark energy wrapped around his body.Before Kael could attack, Malrec disappeared into the darkness."He's gone!" Raven shouted.Kael looked around.
Chapter 48 – The Fourth Shrine
Kael couldn't stop thinking about Garran's words.The Fourth Shrine has fallen.If it was true, they had already lost one of the seven."We leave now," Kael said.Lyria looked at him."The shrine could be days away.""Then we don't sleep."Raven nodded."Finally, something I agree with."Aric looked toward the northern mountains."If the Shadow Cult reached it first, we'll need to move carefully."Kael raised his hand.Darkness gathered around his feet."Not necessarily."He stepped into his shadow.A second later, he appeared several meters away.Lyria smiled."Shadow Step."Kael looked back at them."We can cover more ground this way."They started moving.For the next two days, they traveled through the mountains.Kael used Shadow Step whenever the path became too difficult.His Shadow Soldiers moved ahead, scouting the area.But the closer they got to the Fourth Shrine, the quieter everything became.No birds.No animals.Not even wind.On the third evening, Garran suddenly stoppe
