Chapter 7 - Outburst of Mishap

Going to bed at night and waking up the next morning didn’t erase the fact that yesterday was Elena’s worst day ever.

There were different news reporters in Pearson’s estate, hoping to hear a thing or the other from the wealthiest heiress in the country. She unlocks her phone and news were everywhere.

“The disgraced war hero, once believed to be dead, in a shocking return is the Chairman and CEO of Wide NFT Limited”

“Nathan Ford successfully crashed the Uyor-Pearson alliance, which was already dead on arrival”

“Damien Uyors is being hospitalized as reporters surround the city hospital”

“Eyewitnesses describe last night’s event as a declaration of war against Washington’s elite”

“Nathan Ford is the new Titan of America”

“Elena regrets her engagement as she met her ex-lover again”

She screamed as she flung her phone and rushed to her dad’s home office, stamping her feet so hard on the stairs like they were her problem.

“What is it, Elena? You look flustered” Mr Pearson said as he saw his daughter’s red eyes.

“You cannot sit there and act like nothing happened, Dad! Why didn’t you tell me?” She yelled, he could feel the pain in her voice.

“Tell you what Lena?” Mr Pearson tried to act unaffected. He clearly knew what Elena was talking about but he acted like he didn't which annoyed Elena.

“That Nathan Ford is alive, that he is the chairman of NFT” She said with tears running down her cheeks. Her dad betrayed her although she doesn't even know how much, just yet.

He tightened his jaw and sighed “Elena, sit down. Nathan is not the man you think he is”

Elena laughed bitterly with the tears in her eyes, she found his reply amusing. “I saw him last night Father and he was everything you said he wasn’t, stronger, richer, powerful and untouchable” she loosened her ponytail and ran her hands through her hair.

“And I left him when he needed me the most because you convinced me he was beneath me,” she said as her voice cracked.

Mr Pearson rose from his seat and slammed his table.

“Because he was! He was a soldier, a drug dealer, crippled, disgraced…” he said almost desperate but Elena cut him off.

“He was yours to ruin, was it you father?” Elena wiped her eyes and asked her father as her suspicion grew.

“Did you have a hand in destroying Nathan?” She asked again, her voice was almost a whisper.

For a split second, Mr Pearson’s silence portrayed guilt, he froze. Elena gasps softly as she wept even more out of shock.

“My God! It was you” Elena screamed in pain. She firmly held her head like it were exploding. “I fell for a lie, I ended my engagement for a big setup!” she screamed.

“What did you do?” she asked and her dad kept mute with his head bowed.

“Father!” she yelled at the top of her voice, urging him to say something.

“It was just poison, okay?!, I didn't know it would lead to amputation, and Uyors did the rest with the drugs. It was nothing, trust me!” He said, trying to cover his guilt.

“You men have done nothing but use me, anyways tell Damien that I am not interested in him one bit, he is more useless than an undisciplined stripper” Elena replied.

“You must go on with this marriage Elena. If anything happens to me today, you are the next CEO and you'll have a powerful man like Damien to keep you in the elite class. It's all I worked hard for, your future!” he said, scolding her.

“If all you worked hard for was to force me into a marriage with someone I hate, and to make me unhappy for the rest of my life, then please keep your company. I am beginning to understand mum now” 

She slowly fell to the floor, crying like someone who has lost all will to continue life.

Her father went to her and lowered his tone to a plea, trying to console her “Everything I did was to protect you Elena, Nathan is dangerous, he is not the boy you loved. He came back to burn everything and he would use you to get to me”

“Or maybe he will save me from you,” Elena said as she came out of her father’s embrace.

Then the TV that was on all this time started a program that caught both their attention.

It was Nathan Ford’s Tech Limited company opening in Washington.

There were a lot of people ready to purchase customized or limited edition products from NFT.

As Nate and Kelvin stepped out of their Mustang, all eyes, all cameras, and all attention were on them.

He dressed in a sharp black suit, added a limited edition Casio sunshades, and steady steps. Nate's steps were part of his outfits. Kelvin beside him, looked casual but confident. The NFT guards moved precisely, eyes scanning the area and tech buzzes were faintly heard on their wrists.

They paused at an intersection, a convoy of black SUVs with tinted windows speed past the area but they didn't stop. NFT security recognizes them as Uyors’ soldiers.

“They didn’t even stop for a smoke, that’s new” Kel muttered, grinning widely.

“I’m sure they remember last night, fear is more effective than bullets” Nate said as he lowered his glasses to stare at reporters.

Reporters filmed it all like it was a country festival. The NFT guards create a wall to keep reporters far from Nate and Kel.

“What do you have for us today Mr Nathan?” 

“Is NFT declaring war on Uyors?”

“What secrets were you talking about Mr Ford?”

“Mr Ford, will you run for office?” 

Nate calmly replied to the last question,’l don’t run for anything, Washington runs for me” his words hit like a thunderclap as Kelvin laughed.
