Lord Arthur Sterling sat frozen behind his mahogany desk, his hand hovering inches above his desk phone as the three armed Serious Fraud Office agents took position inside Suite 402.

"Nonsense," Sterling said, his voice tightening as he tried to regain his composure. He smoothed his dark tie and looked past Caleb at the lead investigator. "I am the Senior Undersecretary of Financial Oversight. You have no jurisdiction to raid a private diplomatic residence without an order signed by the Home Secretary."

The lead officer stepped forward, pulling a folded digital warrant from his coat pocket and tossing it onto the desk beside the teacup.

"The Home Secretary signed this forty minutes ago, Lord Sterling," the officer replied calmly. "Right after an unredacted copy of your private offshore clearing accounts appeared on the Director General's secure terminal."

Sterling’s gaze snapped to Caleb. The refined, calm demeanor he had maintained completely cracked, replaced by sharp, cold fury.

"You think this changes anything, Thorne?" Sterling hissed, leaning over the desk toward Caleb. "You delivered a few regional banking logs to local law enforcement. You haven't touched the Consortium. You've only made yourself an active target for men who don't hide behind court warrants."

"I didn't come to London just to hand you over to the SFO, Sterling," Caleb said softly.

He reached down, picked up the thick manila file folder containing Chloe's medical records, and checked the official seal. Seeing that the documents were original and intact, he slid the folder safely into his coat pocket.

"The mirror program didn't just route your transaction logs to the authorities," Caleb continued, meeting Sterling's gaze. "It pulled the master authorization codes for every dormant proxy account registered under Sterling Holdings."

Sterling stiffened. "What did you say?"

"Julian Vance thought he was stealing fifty million from Vanguard," Caleb said, his voice level and chillingly steady. "Marcus thought he was running a Swiss trust. But you were using their blind spots to skim three percent off every Iron Consortium transaction for five years."

Sterling’s face turned completely gray. "Caleb... don't."

"Chloe," Caleb spoke quietly into his concealed lapel microphone. "Execute the secondary transfer."

Two miles away in a safehouse overlooking the Thames, Chloe tapped a single key on her laptop.

Inside Suite 402, the terminal screen on Sterling's desk flashed bright red.

A high-pitched tone chimed twice as the system displayed an automated notice:

Warning: Master Liquidity Event Triggered. $420,000,000 transferred to Consortium Primary Node 01.

Sender ID: Sterling, Arthur.

"No..." Sterling gasped, his fingers scrambling across the keyboard as he tried to abort the transaction, but the system locked his profile out entirely. "You sent it back to them? You sent their skimmed capital back to Node 01?"

"I returned their money under your personal authorization signature," Caleb said, stepping back toward the door as the SFO officers moved in to handcuff the disgraced Undersecretary. "Now the Iron Consortium knows who was stealing from them."

"You monster!" Sterling shouted, thrashing against the officers' grip as they forced his hands behind his back. "They'll hunt you down! They'll tear down everything you care about!"

"They can try," Caleb said.

He turned his back on the struggling official, opened the mahogany double doors, and walked down the quiet, carpeted hallway of the Grand Hotel.

Five minutes later, Caleb stepped out of the hotel's side entrance into the cool London drizzle.

Maya was waiting at the corner in a grey rental hatchback, its wipers sweeping steadily across the glass. Chloe sat in the passenger seat with her laptop resting on her knees, looking up at her brother as he slid into the back seat.

"Did you secure the medical files?" Chloe asked, her voice trembling slightly with anxiety.

Caleb pulled the manila folder from his jacket and handed it to her. "Originals. The state prosecutor has nothing left to hold over you."

Chloe hugged the folder tight against her chest, letting out a long, shuddering breath of relief. "It's finally over..."

"The local frame job is over," Maya said, watching the rear-view mirror as two police vans pulled into the courtyard of the Grand Hotel with sirens flashing. "Julian is bankrupt, Marcus is a fugitive, and Sterling is in federal custody. But Caleb..."

Maya turned around in her seat, her expression grave. "By returning that four hundred million to Node 01, you didn't just expose Sterling. You alerted Node 01 that someone in North America possesses the master audit architecture."

"I know," Caleb said, looking out the window as the hatchback pulled into the morning traffic heading toward the highway.

"Where is Node 01 based?" Maya asked.

Chloe opened her laptop display, running the routing trace that had accompanied the liquidity transfer. "The IP node isn't in Switzerland or the UK. It's a mobile satellite server bouncing off a maritime vessel currently anchored in the Mediterranean."

"Who owns the vessel?" Caleb asked.

Chloe typed a short string into the search terminal, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "The ship is registered to a corporate group called Vane Global Logistics. But the primary shareholder listed on the registry... Caleb, that's impossible."

Caleb leaned forward, his eyes locking onto the screen. "Who is it?"

"It's registered under our father's name," Chloe whispered, her voice barely audible. "The transfer signature was authorized using a private cryptographic key created twenty years ago... six months before Dad died."

Caleb sat in complete silence as the hatchback sped through the rain.

His father had been a simple senior accountant who died in a car accident when Caleb was fifteen—an event that had pushed Caleb into studying financial systems in the first place.

"Caleb..." Maya said softly, looking back at him with deep concern. "Could your father have been involved with the Iron Consortium?"

Before Caleb could answer, his personal phone—the clean, burner device Chloe had set up on the freighter—vibrated in his pocket.

An incoming call from an unknown international number.

Caleb answered it, placing the phone to his ear. He didn't speak. He waited.

Through the receiver, over the soft static of a satellite connection, a calm, middle-aged woman's voice spoke in crisp, measured English.

"You handled Arthur Sterling quite efficiently, Caleb," the woman said. "Just like your father said you would."

Caleb's grip tightened on the phone. "Who are you?"

"I am the Director of Node 01," the woman replied softly. "And if you want to learn the truth about why your father really died twenty years ago, you will take the night flight to Marseille."
