Dagon’s portal opened into the main corridor of the Briar mansion. It wasn’t easy to reach the fortress by conventional means. It had a helipad for choppers, as well as one for fighter jets and drones.

The Briar estate was perched on a secluded cliff overlooking a stormy sea. Rain lashed the windows, and thunder rumbled in the distance.

Dagon was generally fearless, but the Briars creeped him out. He clutched a velvet pouch in one hand. Its contents were heavier than expected.

The grand chamber doors swung open. Inside, Lazarus Briar sat on a throne-like chair. His average frame was draped in dark robes. If it weren’t for the medieval attire, one would imagine he was nothing better than a bank manager.

Beside Lazarus stood Amelia Briar, his daughter. Her dark hair cascaded over a form-fitting black dress. The girl’s beauty was sharp like a blade hidden in silk.

"Master," Dagon said, kneeling briefly. "I've returned after completing my mission."

Lazarus leaned forward. "Report, Dagon.

Marsha's skin was porcelain, and her lips were bee-stung. Behind her, a powerful tail flipped that could behead a man with a light swish. Yet, she walked with a grace that could only be defined as royal. The Queen surfaced before THE BUTCH. She levitated from the water, as if carried by a cloud. As she landed on the deck, surrounded by servant mermaids, the wood turned to reeds, soil, and grass.Tyler noticed he had forgotten to breathe for a dozen seconds. He was suddenly reminded of the goddess Aphrodite's prediction. "The fairest of them all is not on this metal vessel. She lives on soil and grass, on clouds and mist."Water cascaded from the Queen's form erotically. The naval officers and staff, regardless of their pain and suffering, were entranced by her unearthly beauty."You wield my husband's trident," Marsha declared. "But you are no Poseidon. He abandoned me. His Queen, the love of his immortal life, that too for a frail human woman.""When I protested, he cursed me to the

"Noooo!""Aaaargh!""Helppp!""Monsters!!"The decks of the Petra ships, once slick with saltwater, were now splashed with blood. They echoed with the ghastly snarls of hungry sirens and the desperate cries of dying crew members.Tyler stood on The Butch's main deck, his mind racing. His form was a whirlwind of motion. Mystical threads lashed out like golden whips to grapple at the sirens that swarmed over the sides like slugs.Yara was in her complete Lilith form, fighting beside him. Her claws raked through a siren's scaled hide, spraying blue-black blood. "These aquatic bitches are tough!" she snarled, decapitating another with a swipe that sent the head rolling into the fog.Mamushi cowered behind an overturned crate, not far away from Tyler. The latter had made her swear to take cover. However, she was participating in the fight as well. Her small hands glowed with nascent energy, firing bursts of red energy that singed a mermaid's tail. "Dad! They're everywhere!" she cried out.

  • 310 Help!

Tyler stood at the railing of THE BUTCH looking into the distance. The superyacht's deck was still slick with seawater from his recent ordeal. The Pacific stretched endlessly, mocking his progress toward Wings Island. His eyes scanned the remaining escort ships. The number was now reduced to eight destroyers and frigates. They flanked the yacht in a tight V-formation.Tyler's mind lingered on Amelia. Her final kiss in the dream, and her sacrifice in reality, was a weight that pressed on him like an anchor. "Little Amelia deserved better," he muttered to himself.Kat and Mamushi approached Tyler. His daughter stood beside him, her red wings tucked neatly against her back. She watched the sunset with wonder. Everything in the mortal world appeared like a fantasy to Mamushi.Kat flanked his other side. "How long are you going to brood?" the goddess asked, watching Mamushi giggle and point at jumping dolphins.Tyler sighed. "Probably forever. What do you do to honor the dead in Tialocan,

  • 309 A Dream of Paradise

Amelia took the first step into the water. Her foot broke the surface with a soft ripple. The warmth enveloped her immediately, seeping into her muscles like liquid sunlight, dissolving the accumulated fatigue from days of survival on the island. It was the exact opposite of the pain she experienced when drinking demon blood."It's... incredible," she murmured, wading deeper until the water lapped at her thighs, then her waist. Her skin tingled with rejuvenation.Tyler watched the beauty, her curves silhouetted against the rising steam. It was one of the most erotic spectacles of his life. The water droplets traced glistening paths down her full breasts and along the graceful curve of her hips."Come in," she urged him with a smile. "What are you waiting for?"Tyler stepped in after her and gauged the water body's spiritual pressure. "This is better than the aquifer that I have back home. In fact, it has an exponentially larger reserve.""Forget that!" Amelia said, pouting. "Let's enj

The deserted island was a kind of Eden for Tyler and Amelia, with its golden beaches, blue lagoons, and vibrant jungles teeming with life. The two often spent their time near beautiful waterfalls, enjoying the bounty of nature.Even though time passed, no ships came on the horizon, no planes flew overhead. Tyler and Amelia fell into a rhythm of survival. Day by day, it chipped away at the walls between them.Their mornings began with exploration, as they ventured into the heart of the jungle. Tyler led the way, his senses sharpened by years of cultivation. He spotted faint trails through the underbrush. Amelia followed closely, her makeshift leaf skirt resembling Jane's with Tarzan. She gathered edible berries from low-hanging bushes and plucked tubers from the soil."These are safe," she said one morning, holding up a cluster of tart, red fruits. Tyler ate them and got food poisoning for a day. They laughed about it later. They went hunting at noon. Tyler had crafted spears from stra

Bubbles escaped her lips in frantic bursts. Saltwater filled her lungs as she thrashed weakly with the bit of energy left.Amelia's body sank deeper into the oceanic abyss. She saw the light from above fading to a distant memory. "This is it," she thought with resignation. "Drowning alone, unloved. Isn't it a fitting end for a monster like me? It's okay. I accept death."Her vision blurred as darkness crept from the edges. The girl's body turned numb, and she felt nothing. All of a sudden, something moved above her.Having no energy left, Amelia was blind and increasingly deaf. A hazy figure loomed over her in the murk.Something pressed against her lips. It was warm and strong, forcing air into her starving lungs. She gasped instinctively, as the oxygen came as a shock of life in the ocean's deathly chill.A man? Giving her air mouth-to-mouth? The figure's hands gripped her shoulders, steadying her as more breaths followed. "Who is it...?" she wondered. But exhaustion claimed her, an
