Cassie sighed in relief, almost as though Darius had asked her about something completely insignificant. She casually adjusted her gown and glanced at Aaron before answering.

“Oh, that?” she said. “I gave the medicine to Aaron. He was very sick and needed it urgently.”

Darius stared at her, certain he had heard wrong.

“You gave my mother’s medicine to your ex-boyfriend?”

“Lower your voice!” Cassie snapped.

Darius’s jaw tightened. “Cassie, my mother was dying. How could you do that?”

Cassie rolled her eyes, clearly irritated by his reaction. “Aaron was sick too, Darius. I had to make a choice, and I gave it to him because he needed it more urgently. Why are you acting like I deliberately tried to hurt your mother?”

“You had no right to make that decision!” Darius’s voice rose. “That medicine was specifically prepared for my mother. She was the one fighting for her life. You had no idea whether Aaron even needed it!”

Cassie gave a dismissive laugh. “No right? Darius, do you know whose hospital you were taking that medicine into? My family’s hospital. I absolutely have the right to decide what goes in and out of it.”

She folded her arms and continued as though she were explaining something obvious to a child.

“Besides, the hospital has already been supporting your mother for months. We’ve covered part of her treatment and helped with her bills. You should be grateful instead of standing here accusing me.”

Darius went silent.

He looked at her for several seconds, struggling to understand how the woman he had spent three years with could speak so casually about his mother’s life.

His mother wasn’t a bill.

She wasn’t a favor.

She was the woman who had raised him, sacrificed everything for him, and stood by him when he had nothing.

And Cassie had taken the only medicine that could save her and given it to her former lover without even hesitating.

Before Darius could respond, Aaron stood up and slowly buttoned his shirt.

“Come on, Darius. Don’t be angry with Cassie,” he said, sounding strangely reasonable. “She was only trying to save my life.”

Darius’s eyes snapped toward him.

Aaron calmly straightened his collar. “If my condition wasn’t more serious, Cassie wouldn’t have given me the medicine, would she? You should trust her judgment.”

Darius stared at him.

Aaron smiled faintly before continuing, “Or is this really about your mother? Maybe you’re just jealous because you walked in and saw Cassie with me.”

“Enough,” Darius said coldly.

But Aaron wasn’t finished.

“Honestly, you should be thanking her. She only took one cheap pill from you, yet she still allows you to stay with her and has even helped settle your mother’s hospital bills. What exactly are you complaining about?”

Cassie walked over and placed a hand on Aaron’s arm.

“Don’t bother explaining yourself to him,” she said. “He’s just being paranoid. I did what any reasonable person would have done.”

Aaron smiled.

That smile made Darius’s blood boil.

He had seen enough of Aaron’s type before. The arrogant man who believed money and status gave him the right to look down on everyone else. But there was something else in his expression now, something far more deliberate.

Aaron wanted Darius to lose control.

“You know, Cassie has been carrying you for three years,” Aaron said. “Three years.”

Darius remained silent.

Aaron looked him up and down with open contempt. “You’re a retired soldier working as a janitor. That’s all you have to offer her. What could you possibly do for a woman like Cassie?”

Cassie’s silence only made the humiliation worse.

Darius looked at his wife, waiting for her to defend him.

She didn’t.

Aaron reached into his pocket and pulled out a hundred-dollar bill. He held it between two fingers for a moment before tossing it directly at Darius’s face.

The bill struck his cheek and fluttered onto the floor.

“That’s compensation for that cheap medicine,” Aaron said with a smirk. “And honestly, I feel much better now.”

Darius’s eyes slowly dropped to the bill.

Aaron stepped closer.

His voice lowered so only Darius could hear him.

“Although, between us, you were right about one thing.”

Darius looked at him.

“I was never sick.”

A cold silence settled between them.

Aaron’s smile widened.

“I only demanded that pill because I wanted to see whether Cassie still loved me. And she did. She chose me over you and your useless mother.”

Darius’s expression went completely still.

For three years, he had endured insults because of Cassie. He had swallowed his pride, worked whatever jobs he could find, and tolerated the contempt of her family because he believed their marriage meant something.

But that sentence shattered the last bit of restraint he had left.

His fist moved before he even thought about it.

BAM!

His punch slammed directly into Aaron’s face.

Aaron was sent stumbling backward before crashing onto the floor. He grabbed his nose with both hands, blood immediately running between his fingers.

“Argh!”

Cassie rushed to him.

“Aaron!”

She dropped beside him, checking his face with panic in her eyes. “Are you okay?”

Aaron looked genuinely stunned.

He was a black-belt taekwondo practitioner. He had trained for years and was confident in his physical abilities. Yet Darius, a man he had dismissed as an ordinary janitor, had hit him so hard that his entire body had been thrown backward.

For a brief moment, Aaron couldn’t understand what had happened.

Then he noticed Cassie’s worried expression.

A different thought entered his mind.

He lowered his gaze and immediately changed his expression, allowing pain and helplessness to take over.

“Cassie… don’t worry about me.”

His voice trembled.

“I was only trying to apologize to Darius about his mother. I didn’t think he would hit me.”

Cassie looked up at Darius in disbelief.

“Darius, how could you hit someone who is sick?”

Aaron shook his head weakly. “Maybe he’s just overwhelmed because of his mother. I shouldn’t have come here.”

“You see even after you hit him, he’s still being nice to you. You should learn from him.” She shot a hateful glance towards Darius.

“Stop pretending!” Darius roared.

Aaron flinched.

“You’re a liar and a manipulator! You just admitted to me that you were never sick. You deliberately asked for that medicine to see whether Cassie still loved you, and she chose you over my mother!”

Cassie stared at him.

Then, instead of believing him, she slapped him across the face.

Smack!

Darius’s head turned with the impact.

For a moment, he simply stood there.

Cassie’s hand slowly dropped.

“How childish can you be?” she demanded. “Aaron is sick, and you assaulted him. Do you even understand what you’ve done?”

Darius touched his cheek and stared at her.

She had slapped him.

Her husband.

The man she had supposedly loved for three years.

And she had done it for Aaron.

Meanwhile, Aaron sat on the floor with blood running from his nose, looking like the victim of an unprovoked attack.

“I can’t believe you,” Darius said quietly.

Cassie ignored him and turned back to Aaron, carefully wiping the blood from his nose.

Aaron glanced over her shoulder.

His eyes met Darius’s.

The fear and pain on his face disappeared instantly.

A smug smile slowly spread across his lips.

It was the smile of a man who had won.

Darius stood motionless.

His mother had just died because of this man. His wife had taken the medicine that could have saved her and given it to her ex-boyfriend. Aaron had deliberately manipulated the situation, mocked his mother, insulted him, and then watched Cassie slap her own husband in his defense.

And Cassie still hadn’t asked how his mother was doing.

She hadn’t asked whether the medicine had arrived in time.

She hadn’t shed a tear over the woman who had supposedly been part of her family.

All she cared about was Aaron.

Darius looked at the woman he had spent three years loving and suddenly realized he no longer recognized her.

Perhaps those three years had never meant anything to her.

Perhaps he had been the only one taking their marriage seriously.

His gaze dropped to the hundred-dollar bill lying on the floor.

Then he looked back at Cassie.

His voice was calm when he finally spoke.

“Cassie, let’s get a divorce.”

  • Maxwell Biden’s arrival

The guards were still laughing when the grand entrance suddenly opened again.A figure hurried out of the building, moving so quickly that several nearby guests turned to see what was happening. It was Maxwell Biden, the president of the National Medical Association.Unlike his usual composed appearance, Maxwell was breathing heavily, his suit slightly disheveled from rushing outside. The moment his eyes landed on Darius, his expression changed completely.“Sir!”He quickly walked toward him and stopped directly in front of Darius, lowering his head respectfully.“I apologize for keeping you waiting.”The laughter at the entrance instantly disappeared. The two guards stood frozen.Their jaws practically dropped as they stared at Maxwell. The man they had just been mocking was actually someone Maxwell Biden had personally come outside to receive. Worse still, the president wasn’t merely greeting him casually. He was addressing him with genuine respect.“Sir?”The first guard swallowed

  • The Nation Medical Association Banquet

That night, the National Medical Association banquet was held at the National Hall, the most prestigious event venue in Bluewave City. The enormous building had been transformed for the occasion, with elegant decorations, crystal chandeliers, expensive floral arrangements, and a red carpet stretching from the entrance to the main hall. Luxury cars continued arriving one after another as influential businessmen, renowned physicians, wealthy families, and prominent figures stepped onto the red carpet. This was an event where ordinary people had no place. The guests inside were among the richest and most influential individuals in the city, and simply receiving an invitation was considered a privilege. Then an old car slowly pulled up in front of the entrance.Darius stepped out.His car looked completely out of place among the rows of luxury vehicles surrounding the venue. To make matters worse, he was still wearing the same clothes he had worn at the hospital. He hadn’t had enough time

  • The Miracle Doctor II

Darius turned toward one of the nurses and calmly said, “Bring me sixteen acupuncture needles.”The nurse hesitated and instinctively looked at Daniel. She had never seen a janitor give medical instructions in a VIP ward, and Daniel’s expression made it clear that he wanted Darius gone.“Why are you still listening to him?” Daniel snapped. “He’s not a doctor.”Darius didn’t even look at him. “If you want him alive, bring me the needles.”Naomi immediately stepped forward. “Do it.”The nurse quickly retrieved sixteen sterile acupuncture needles and placed them on a tray. Darius then asked for a small container of black medicinal oil. Once it was brought to him, he carefully soaked the needles in the oil for several seconds before removing them one by one.Daniel watched with increasing disbelief.“What exactly do you think you’re doing?” he demanded.Darius ignored him and walked to the bed. He carefully removed Gabriel’s shirt, exposing the old patriarch’s chest and abdomen. His skin

  • The Miracle Doctor

Daniel’s expression changed the moment he recognized the man standing at the entrance. His eyes narrowed with immediate irritation as he stepped forward.“Darius, what are you doing here?”His voice carried the authority of someone who had long since forgotten that Darius was once his son-in-law. To Daniel, Darius was nothing more than an embarrassment who had somehow managed to remain attached to the Ashford family for three years.“Get out,” Daniel ordered coldly. “This is a VIP ward. What business does a janitor have here?”Darius ignored the insult and looked past him toward Gabriel Wen. The old patriarch’s breathing had become increasingly shallow, while the monitors continued to produce increasingly alarming readings.“I already told you,” Darius said calmly. “His condition is critical. If you don’t do something immediately, he won’t survive another five minutes.”Naomi’s attention immediately returned to him. Unlike Daniel, she didn’t care about Darius’s clothes or occupation.

  • The Wen Family

She was still unconscious, but the faint rhythm of her heartbeat remained steady enough for him to leave temporarily. With the banquet only a few hours away, he needed to make preparations before heading there. More importantly, if Soulroot truly existed in Bluewave City, the banquet was his best opportunity to find it.He had barely walked past the VIP section of Hillcrest Hospital when a furious voice suddenly erupted from one of the private wards.“My father’s life is in danger, Mr. Ashford! What the hell are you doing?”The woman’s voice was sharp enough to silence the nurses standing outside the room. She sounded furious, but beneath her anger was unmistakable fear. Naomi Wen stood beside the hospital bed, her pale face tense as she stared at the man lying motionless beneath the sheets. Her father, Gabriel Wen, was the patriarch of the Wen family, one of the most influential

  • A Miraculous Doctor

Darius’s gaze remained fixed on his mother as he reached toward the medical table and picked up three acupuncture needles. The nurses immediately looked at him in confusion.“What are you doing?” one of them asked.Darius didn’t answer. He held the first needle between his fingers and carefully placed it in the center of his mother’s forehead. The second went into the area above her chest, while the third was inserted just below her navel. The staff members exchanged baffled looks. One of the nurses couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Is he seriously performing acupuncture on a dead woman?”Another shook her head. “He must have lost his mind from the shock.”“This is a modern hospital, not some ancient clinic,” a male staff member added mockingly. “What does he think three needles are going to accomplish?”Darius ignored every word.He stood beside the bed with his eyes closed, his breathing slowing as he concentrated. The room gradually fell silent as the staff realized he wasn’t going
