Chap. 15 Sudden Attacks

Maria's unblinking at Jonathan; his latest appearance made him look very handsome. Wearing simple clothes, he was fascinated, especially now, who wore expensive and branded clothes.

Just getting his hair done at the salon, Jonathan was completely invisible from his low-class social status.

"Maria," Jonathan called, snapping his fingers in the girl's face.

"Uh… it's done?" a silly question to which the answer must have been because since earlier, Maria had been staring at Jonathan without blinking.

"Yeah, I'm done," Jonathan answered flatly.

"Come on," without awkwardness, Maria grabbed and hugged Jonathan's arm. In fact, Jonathan felt uncomfortable. He doesn't like being around a girl or other single women. But for the sake of the silver necklace, his late father's legacy. He was willing to follow Maria's wishes which he thought was a waste of time.

He could use that time to study and care for his sick mother.

"Let's go to the cinema first," Maria didn't ask Jonathan for an opinion. She didn't see the lazy, handsome young man's face. And Jonathan could only grumble in his heart.

Maria bought two romantic movie tickets. She deliberately wanted to enjoy the hit film with Jonathan. A simple young man who had made her fall in love at first sight.

Inside the cinema, Maria rested her head on Jonathan's shoulder. Jonathan looked straight ahead without wanting to look at Maria. Meanwhile, Maria looked up and watched Jonathan's firm jaw from below. Even more amazed, He really captivated his heart.

"Maria, the movie's over." Jonathan's voice interrupted the girl's daydream, who still didn't blink, watching Jonathan's handsome face.

"Uh…," Maria raised her head, embarrassed.

"It's finished?" asked Jonathan.

"What?" answered Maria, who pretended not to know Jonathan's question.

"This walk."

"Of course not; we were just watching. Not out yet," said Maria."

"Okay," only one word came out of Jonathan's mouth.

"I want us to go there." Maria pulled Jonathan into a men's barbershop. Jonathan just obeyed and sat in front of the mirror, expressionless. Maria spoke to the barber, giving instructions about how to style Jonathan's haircut.

The man in his forties nodded and walked to Jonathan with his complete equipment. He glanced at Jonathan briefly, then felt the young man's light brown hair. He turned and immediately took his flagship scissors.

The sound of hair being cut came immediately, along with a fantastic chuckle from Maria's lips. Very professionally, the barber man is agile in cutting and shaping the latest trends in youth haircuts.

"Done, Miss Soriano."

"Wow…," Maria repeatedly expressed her admiration. More amazed by Jonathan's good looks.

"Are you done? Where's my necklace?" Jonathan couldn't wait to get home to see how his mother was doing. It was enough to follow the wishes of the young lady who had saved him.

"I'm hungry; let's eat first." Maria grabbed Jonathan's strong arm again.

Jonathan held his breath; if he did not remember her kindness, he wanted to curse the beautiful girl.

Maria takes Jonathan to a Chinese restaurant. A dish the young man had never tasted before. Because Chinese restaurants are rare in this country. Entering the restaurant, Maria and Jonathan were greeted by friendly waiters. Someone dressed in a neat suit, who seemed to have an important position in the restaurant, immediately greeted Maria.

"Good afternoon, Miss Soriano?"

"Afternoon, two VIP seats, please."

"Follow me." the man in his fifties led them into the restaurant section.

"Please, miss, sir."

"Thank you."

The man said excuse after handing the menu book to Maria and Jonathan.

"Sit down!" said Maria.

With a grumbled heart, Jonathan landed his butt on the chair.

"Order what you want." Maria flipped through the menu book while waiting for Jonathan's answer.

"Whatever, I don't know much about the Chinese menu."

"I'll choose for you," Maria called the restaurant waiter with the automatic button on one press, the man who had greeted her earlier appeared from behind the door.

"I want these dishes, this and this." Maria pointed to the menu picture, which was immediately noted by the man tagged with the manager's name in the title section.

"We will prepare the menu for your order, Miss." The manager nodded and left the room.

"Why are you silent?" Maria began to notice the cold look on Jonathan's face, getting more out.

"There isn't any." Jonathan lie.

"How about if we date?" Their chat was paused after a few maids came with Maria's orders.

"Enjoy, miss, sir."

"Let's eat," Maria handed Jonathan the spoon, having guessed that the young man could not use chopsticks.

Jonathan was stunned; he remembered his mother. This much food can be their food stock for one month.

"I don't know which menu you like, so I ordered what I thought was delicious and unique." Maria picked up a super quality lobster prawn and served it to Jonathan.

Again, Jonathan held his breath until this girl would let him go.

"Enjoy your meal," Maria sliced the abalone shells with a knife. The mainstay of this restaurant's menu is only the upper class can afford seafood.

"Hmm," Jonathan was not in the mood. He wanted to hurry home and meet his mother.

"How does it taste?"

"Delicious," only one word left Jonathan's mouth and then the silence returned.

Maria is a little frustrated; this young man is tough to beat. In fact, according to information from a trusted person, Jonathan is a poor young man and an orphan who lives in a small church on the edge of town.

After eating, Maria took Jonathan for a walk in the city park. Many lovebirds are holding hands affectionately. They want to spend the afternoon enjoying the sunset in the garden full of flowers. The girl glanced at Jonathan, who walking stiffly with his arms crossed like a robot.

"You already have a girlfriend?" asked Maria, who wanted to continue what she had said earlier when she was inside the restaurant.

"Not yet, and currently, I don't want to be in a relationship with any girl," answered Jonathan, who deliberately wanted to block Maria's intention to have a special relationship with him.

Maria immediately lost hope; isn't she pretty? Or not good? The question swirled in her head.

"Why?" Maria stopped her steps and then looked at Jonathan's handsome face.

"I want to focus on studying and building my father's bankrupt business. There's no time for me to think about love."

Maria's lips were pursed; Jonathan's reasoning made her lose. Her love withered before it blossomed. Rejected before starting their story.

"Let's enjoy the sunset this afternoon." Maria gave up; maybe next time, she would find a way to conquer Jonathan's heart.

They had only taken two steps past the garden gate when a group of unknown men came to attack them.

"Save, Young Lady!" Maria's bodyguards, tasked with keeping her safe, came running, carrying long swords and pistols.
