Men in tailored suits and expensive tuxedos sat in private booths, hidden behind half curtains and tinted glass, sipping whiskey older than most of the dancers.

But even though Margaret was rattling and shaking Kairos hard, the latter remained unruffled and on the spot. He even tried to assure her calmly, "Mum, don’t worry. As long as I am here, they won't be able to hurt you." "You bastard!" Margaret yelled, slapping his chest. "Didn’t you hear what I said? Get down on your knees and apologise!" Without waiting for a response, she pushed him forward. His cold electric blue eyes swept over Sebastian, who was waiting eagerly. His lips curled up coldly, and he snorted, "You want me to get on my knees and beg him? Forgive my manners, mother, but I'm afraid he won't be able to handle my apology!" "You..." Not only Sebastian, everyone except Nikolai was equally stunned by Kairos' blunt arrogance. Even at the time of death, this rascal refuses to admit his wrong and apologize. How foolish of him! "If my knees touch the ground in front of you—" Kairos locked eyes with Sebastian, a haughty glint swirling in them. "—your Wood's family will

  • 15: An Atrocity

Lilith was once again astonished. Seeing Kairos kneeling, her tears flowed down faster like a dam that had broken loose. For a moment, she didn’t see a madman or a failure. She only saw the man she once loved. The one who had vowed to protect her, now broken before her eyes."Lilith," Kairos raised his head and looked up at her, ignoring everyone else. "How was Mateo abducted? Do you know who took him away? Please, tell me... Our son's life is in danger. But don't worry. I will rescue him."Lilith wiped her face and tried to determine if she could trust his words or not. She was exhausted from having to shoulder everything. After a minute of hesitation, she asked quietly, "Do you really mean everything you just said?"If there was an option, she wouldn't be here wasting time with him. But at this moment, she was desperate. She really wanted to believe him. Even if it was the words of a lunatic... If there was a glimmer of hope, she would hold on to it. "I swear," Kairos made a cross

Seeing Kairos' face, Lilith fumed and snatched the knife out of her father's hands. She brandished it and scowled, "Didn’t I ask you never to show your face to me again? How dare you come here? I'll kill you myself!"Then she lunged at Kairos, her fury blinding her reason. Seeing this, Nikolai couldn't just stand by and watch."How outrageous!" He stepped forward, shielding Kairos behind him."Step aside."Nikolai paused and turned to look at Kairos. He didn’t expect him to say such things. "General, she is—""Step aside," Kairos didn’t want to mince words with him and he got the warning clearly."Okay."Watching Nikolai step aside, Margaret looked at the two men with disgust. Calling Kairos a general? How humorous! Two years ago, she had personally seen the so-called general roaming the streets in rags, ranting madly about war and glory. He had completely gone insane and was calling himself names like General, a God of War and so on.If the old Castillo's matriarch hadn't quickly ord

The elderly man Frederick Castillo sighed deeply and rubbed his face in exasperation. "Get up, Lilith. It's no use crying or groveling at my feet. You know what happened the last time I tried? I couldn't even get past the guards, so how could I help you persuade mother?""But dad," Lilith got up and held her father's arm. "You can call my uncles. They will still—""I tried, okay?" Frederick snapped in annoyance. "As soon as they heard my voice and realized it was me, they hung up.""How could they do this now that we need them the most?" Lilith’s eyes watered again, and she appeared downcast."Don't talk such nonsense about your uncles. They are still family. They also have their own troubles," Frederick scolded her while defending his brothers."Family indeed!" An angry feminine voice resounded from the house as a plump, middle-aged woman came out from the kitchen. She was Lilith’s mother, Margaret Castillo. She was holding a tray and looked extremely resentful."When have they ever
